how about the old war between the afghans and the soviets
it would be an interesting one i feel most of the already available addons can be used
and lotsa desert islands or make an afghanistan area
p.s. if this is already discussed i apologize for overlooking it

That's exactly what I was thinking...
But we need new units and especially a new island - with no water
I've been working on a script for defensive flares dropped out of helicopters and jets - I was thinking of this campaign.
Afghanistan1985 - when the american stingers started arriving.

i have no idea how to make a map or missions or anything but if ya need research i can see what i can do

there already is a mod based on this called the nomad mod or something

I have some info about soviet uniform/weapons/tactics in Afganistan. Please refer, if you need so. But storyline and characters still needed (if it going to be a campaign), because good campaign starts from the good story about Regular Guy and the Big War.
From this position I can see two possibilities:
1. Work hard to create a real-looking characters and storyline (especially from mudzhaheds side)
2. Receive another version of Rambo III movie.

storyline could be basic russian soldier sent into afghanistan or a afghani kid who joins the fight to get rid of the russians
