Title: OFPEC WRPEdit Tutorial
Post by: snYpir on 28 Aug 2002, 13:41:14
I have put my WRPEdit tutorial back up for anyone who wants to use it.

I still intend to upgrade the tutorial when the next version of WRPEdit comes out, if it ever does *slams fist on table* :P

The tutorial is here (http://www.ofpec.com/editors/tutorials/wrpedit/WRPEdit_tute.htm).

Enjoy!

I'm having trouble opening my WRPEdit file. I downloaded it from
ofpinternals, then it said I needed PhotoParade Player, which I also downloaded. Then, when I tell it to open the file (it's called modules.php) it tells me that it encountered an error while trying to process it. I know that I don't have the PBO manager that snYpir reccommends, and I was wondering if this was the problem...? It's just that I can't find the file at the moment since OFPEC's being refurbished. Any help would be appreciated. ???

I dont understand what you mean silent1

Do you mean you can`t run WrpEdit because it says you need Photoparade player?

If so, that is not right.  I have never heard of Photoparade player and do not have it on my machine.

I have no problem running WrpEdit or indeed loading any .wrp file into WrpEdit.

Anyway WrpEdit doesn't load .php files, it uses .wrp files, or for import .txt files and a few others.

Please give more details.

Just a thought.........silent1

If you are trying to open a pbo......then use one of the other pbo unpacking utilities.

PBO tool is ok.

I think the pbo manager you are thinking of requires you to download the .NET package, and install it.

Right then, I'll start from the top. The WRPEdit tool I downloaded
was around 800 bytes...to me, that doesn't sound right, but hey. When I go into Windows Explorer then Downloads, the latest download I've done is called modules.php. You're telling me this isn't right, aren't you? Where did you download it from? Perhaps I ought to wait until OFPEC comes back up...
   Anyway, thanks for the reply.

Where did your tutorial go?
I had been refering to it when I needed, but now it gives an error message when you click on the link. Can you put it bach up or give a link to download it?

Thanks

I have been using WRP for a while and the one thing I would love to be able to know how to do that none of the tutorials can tell me is:
how to copy something and place it,mainly a object,b/c it is incredibly annoying to have to click and scroll the list and keep doing that over and over and over.
It would save me alot of time if i knew how to do this or knew if it were possibl.
If anyone can help out I would greatly appreciate it
Thanks

Copy/Paste is not possible.

WRP edit is pretty bad. You can import terrain from Terragen... but that's about it. We get one freaking crippled version and OFPInternals dissapears without even being bothered doing a tiny update to add a copy and paste function... How much more coding would that take? How much more time would that save for everyone?

Grrrrrrrrrrrr

/end rant.

/anti-rant

WrpEdit is very good, even in its beta form.
It is free, it will probably be updated, we just need to be patient.

You can import terrain from Terragen and Wilbur, you can also make the terrain from scratch in WrpEdit itself, or you can import terrain from DEMs.
There are one or two other ways, but they require a lot more work.  : ))

Even if it is never updated it is still a very powerful tool, and the only tool generally available that allows island creation.

The link to the tutorial wasn't there ... iiik..

BTW. Anyone heard of a wrpedit clone called Willbur???

Is there an english version of wrpedit???

Wilbur is not a WrpEdit clone, it will not produce maps you can import into the game.

Wilbur can be used to prepare maps for WrpEdit though.

English version???........there is only one version (0.93) and last time I looked it was in english.

@Sco_jam

This is just not true, WrpEdit is very easy to use.

Placing of objects like roads and trees....etc can be a pain, but on the whole it is a very useful tool.

WrpEdit was released as Beta and will remain so till an updated version is released.

There are tutorials and a manual available in the Editors Depot if you would like to learn how to use it.

A lot of the links on the first page are indeed dead or non-existent now.

But if you go to the Editors Depot.........Tutorials.........Third Party Tools.......you should find a few tutorials and documents that will help with WrpEdit.

This sticky has many broken links and is now being unstuck.

There is now a new sticky to replace this one.

The new sticky topic is here:
