Title: Would appreciate some help..
Post by: Chudley on 24 Dec 2014, 00:23:34
Hello there, my name is Chudley and I'm an old mission editing addict. I made a mission called Paratroopers (http://www.ofpec.com/missions_depot/index.php?action=details&id=144) for OFPEC waaaaay back in 2002, and tried to make some others but my imagination exceeded my know-how and they were never released.

I quit OFP in 2004, and aside from checking out ArmA for a short time, I haven't really looked at the game (I say game..  what I really mean is OFP > ArmA 3). Anyway,  I picked up ArmA 2 on Steam yesterday and figured I'd make some missions.

The problem I have is I can't remember any of my old tried and tested tools for mission editing (except the COMREF ;)).

Anyway, what I really want to find is:

I've tried looking through the Tools sections in OFPEC, Armaholic et al.. there's simply too many to go through, therefore I'd appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

Cheers in advance.

A PBO packer/unpacker
Mikero has made all kinds of tools handling OFP/Arma files.
You can find them here (http://dev.withsix.com/projects/mikero-pbodll/files).

It may look a tad intimidating at first, but if you crab the latest DePbo.dll and Eliteness you go a long way.
I use BIS' own BinPBO (in their official tool set, not sure where to actually download it nowadays) for packing but there's a MakePbo on that Mikero tools list, I just never really used it as IIRC it doesn't come with any kind of GUI..

A good text editing application
I myself use Poseidon (http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?164908-Poseidon-advanced-text-editor-for-Scripts-amp-Configs), it's by far my favorite.

Notepad++ is also good, there's older sqf syntax plug-in (http://www.ofpec.com/editors-depot/index.php?action=details&id=649&game=Arma2) for it too, and a more recent one here. (http://www.ofpec.com/forum/index.php/topic,36504.0.html)
