Title: Your Most Interesting Mission
Post by: NightJay0044 on 12 Dec 2010, 16:23:08
Hi, this discussion thread is about what you find most interesting about a mission. Type away anything, weather if it's a day in Iraq, a nice stealth convoy destruction, black ops.

If you want put some more description into it. I'm trying to compile a list of ideas that the community likes so I can come up with something to make.

This may lead into an amendment of this (http://www.ofpec.com/forum/index.php?topic=34776.0) thread. There is however a distinction between the two. Rather than mention the most interesting mission, are you really asking what of that mission made it stand out?

In any mission, anything that is not repetitive stands out and burns into memory such as custom sounds, creative use of addaction and dialogue, tasks that make me think outside of the box, tasks that provideme with support of any type to be used at my discretion but potentially not needed at all. An interactive environment that also reacts to my actions. Creating a mission that is based on the average is also nice if something extra is added. Sometimes location is the selling point and choosing a location that provides an opportunity for me to really stretch my imagination where strategy is concerned, can make the mission great. Creativity is only limited by your lack of exposure.

So many offer little things that it's difficult to determine my favorite but off the cuff, I would have to say

To conclude, solid story and characters, task variety with no restriction to tactics, support of some type, location, challenging without being frustrating(depending on player choices rather than AI behavior) and Immersion at some level.

Very well thought of ideas, I will definitely use some of those. I remember battle of ortega.  :). Alright, well I'm working on a back story. Let me know if you think it is any good.

Operation Counter Act I:

DESCRIPTION: This will be most likely a 10 mission campaign regarding the background story. It will have characters and plots I haven't chosen yet.

Background Story:
The chernarus russian insurgents have fallen on the island in fall of 2012 to the independent people of chernarus. After the fall of the insurgency on chernarus, the insurgents needed to find a new ally, The takistan military. The takistan military has been operating on Takistan for a few years now. Every since 2011 the collapse and fall of the takistan government after Takistan army traded their loyalty and assasinated the president.

The insurgents packed up and left chernarus and headed to Takistan where the real war was. The war that has been going on for decades and possibly decades to come. The both insurgents and Takistan Army are great allies because they both have resources to a connected finance and both have superior fighting skills. The Takistan army has control of 85% of the oil in takistan. We can see wehre this is going, NATO has ensured to keep the North Western oil field under protection until help gets there. The only oil field in the country is NW of Rasman which is name, "Nagara-1 Oilfield". It supplies part of the northern region in takistan, so the Takistan army are anxious to get their hands on the rest of the profit.

The takistan army has control over the region south of bastam. Bastam is like a central heaven for people not under the control of Takistan Army. The takistan army does have takistan militants who assist occasionally in operation. This army is well conducted in military manners. Their high officials drive around in nice big black SUV's and they have state of the art UH1 huey helicopters. Not to mention they have a vast supply of Mi-17 helicopters from Russia. The takistan army has a concentrated act to try and country the food supply in the whole country. So far Nato has thrwarted every effrot they have made to get that. The USMC does not directly help in the war on Takistan but it supplies NATO with needed supplies that NATO can't ignor.

The takistan locals are helping NATO in their efforts but unfortunatley with the help of trying to get the food supply under control they have lost most of their strength. They still maintain strong but are far from vastly equiped.

That's all I have so far, I'm going to write more so the story will be good.  :)

Some thoughts popped up. You're trying to involve the Chernarus issues to justify the use of the insurgent units from Chernarus? If so, I don't think you have to. The Story is about conflict over the most profitable oil well in Takistan right? And the Operation is about protecting it? You could simply justify their presence as Russian soldiers under cover. That would explain Russian involvement foremost, the presence of highly valued assets provided to Takistan forces, Takistan discipline(through Russian guidance) and their experience of growing up in the region makes them that much more formidable. Russians have an interest in securing that northern oil field for the Takistans as a return for their support. Of course, no one will know that they are Russian unless they hear them speak.

Aren't Marines used for assaults? First to fight sort of thing? Shouldn't Army units be used in the on going support role?

Yeah your right. Russia's involvement is kind of suspectable if I put it in like that. That's a good idea to have them go under cover. And yeah, i mean the army did seem good to stick it in there. But Marines are first to fight. So they may have to be the main soldiers in this conflict. Although, I could use Army support in some instances depending on the storyline. This is actually a developing story that I hope to build characters, roles, choices, etc....
