Title: ArmA : Armed Assault missions for beta testing ?
Post by: haroon1992 on 19 Jun 2010, 17:59:27
I wonder if there's any ONE out there doing missions for ArmA ?

I felt quite unhappy, because as soon as i 've updated my ArmA to version 1.14 (after a very long and hard work), ArmA 2 popped up and all the children moved towards the new toy.

If i make an ArmA mission, will there be anyone one willing to test?
I was about to submit a mission that i was working on in ArmA (probably my first fully functional mission for ArmA )

We offer beta boards and so some of our staff(a couple) will give you feedback. We try and be fair even if the game is not. So, edit away.

Just one warning though...don't expect folks(other than staff) to flock to test it or download it when/if it's reviewed. It's nothing personal toward you but folks don't want to play Arma when Arma2 (and even OFP) are friendlier.

Hey Haroon,

since I am working my way through my unfinished business in the ArmA1  boards, I would test your mission as well. But as SBG said, you will probably only get a few tests by staffers.

Cheers

Then , i must be a weired guy.
I liked ALL of the games.

And IMHO, i liked ArmA 1's radio messages (they are more natural than ArmA 2), vehicle driving, flying more than ArmA 2!

More over, i like the re-coil system of ArmA too!.
In ArmA 2,it is like setposing the guns Z position up and down when fired! (if you don't believe, just test it with an ak!)

Since there seemed to be no one interested in ArmA,except the staffs.

I am not going to submit it....
I am not going to waste my time .....  :D

You're not weird. I like Arma for many reasons just as I like Arma2 for many reasons. Both have provided a stepping stone for advancement and both have high and low points.

If you can design your mission to avoid the known pitfalls of the game and take advantage of the good features, your mission may be downloaded and shared through word of mouth by more than just staff. Too often do mission designers use the game bugs to excuse their lazy editing styles and I think many folks have grown tired of seeing those same editing mistakes in so many missions.

I've a quite simple mission.
A sniper mission ,where you have to eliminate two targets who will be at a meeting.

and extract.

But as you can see, the mission is so simple and the design is a common sniper mission design, i think not many testers will test it.

Lazyness
I think i don't have it, I'm not that kind of guy when it comes to mission editing in arma/ofp or arma 2.
(Well, i spent about two hours tweaking to get a better fire in a script i am doing for Darden, and searching through
ArmA 2's Ca/Data folder and testing things also take up about an hour from that.)

That's why i'm too slow in mission editing...
(I sometimes gone too far!!! for example, take a look at my fire script example mission, you'll find it filled with alot of action menu entries as well as other stuffs, just like a normal mission)

Okay, i stop here before further explaining personel preferences or behaviour.

As i have many projects in the list (fire and smoke script for ArmA 2,fire script for Ofp,snow script for Ofp,First Strike,Unfortunate Trip(arma 2),Accidental Spy and a few more) ,
I think i should think about it later.

I still play ARMA 1 missions pretty regular.  I'd play any missions you make, even sniper ones that aren't filled with action from start to finish.
