• or other

I'd really like to know if I'm even wasting my time here coming up with a good mission.

BronzeEagle, we don't have a board for this kind of queries.
In the Mission Ideas -board you can either suggest or request a mission idea and build the plot with others, which is why your post is off topic.
Building a good mission is never a waste of time.  ;)
