Title: Do you want to be a mission reviewer?
Post by: Anmac on 24 Sep 2002, 19:09:49
If you would like to help us review SP missions please email me a review of this mission and include scores as per our scoring system:

So whoever gives it the highest score gets to be the new reviewer?  ;D

No, that would be who ever sends me the most money.  ;)

I only chose this misson because I know it well.

You can give it a 2/10 if you believe that's what it's worth.

I also posted a MP mission for review and no it's not the co-op version of this mission.

If that is your way of telling me you don't have Resistance that is ok... the mission is on the new island which is more of a problem than that addon.   ;)

If you do not have resistance that is fine with me, because we still get non-resistance missions.

Review this mission instead:

If you use this version you will not need resistance, check the readme for addon list.

And with it not being the easiest mission in the world I will weed out the more inexperienced players.

Some of the missions they need to review can be expert level difficult.  Being able to finish the whole mission is very important.

Hi Anmac... ;)

I downloaded ' Antipathy' and ALL the addons :-\

I got an error on the 'TJP_MH60' - something like 'couldn't load addon. Objects1 missing...'

Anyway, I'm gonna download the other mission you've posted.

Cheers :D

That's the Euro blackhawk (Tigershark & Jellybellys).

It's on the list and on my site.

Wouldn't you believe it... I still have Kegetys objects addons in my RES\addons folder.

Didn't even know I put them there.  Doh!

That will be the trees around the fuel trucks courtyard.

That addon is also on my site.  Stick it in and it will work like a working thing.

 ;D

I RECOMMEND all Resistance owners use Antipathy for their test review.

No, its my way of telling you that I refuse to install that - or any other editor upgrades - on my PC. I will go for any unit, island, weapon, whatever, but no editor upgrades. They just clutter the editor up with rubbish, annoy the hell out of me and make OFP crash in some way or other.

If you think I can be a reviewer that does not review missions requiring the editor addons, then I'll happily review that second mission you posted (it IS playable without any editor upgrades, isnt it  :-\ ) but otherwise...?
Title: Re:Do you want to be a mission reviewer?
Post by: Anmac on 27 Sep 2002, 20:42:10
That's a shame dude.  :(

But FYI v1.11 doesn't cause crashes.

I have ALWAYS used Gunslingers editor upgrade, as have thousands of mission authors.  And have NEVER had a problem with it.

Now with Resistance the new Kegetys version did cause problems but it works fine now. (v1.11)

Downloading and installing addons - including the most widely used addon there is - is a requirement of being a reviewer.

The only addons I will NOT install or ask others to install is one that changes ORIGINAL files.
 ;)

Post by: silent1 on 27 Sep 2002, 23:22:29
That would be 'files' then, eh? Anyway, give me a good reason why I have to be over 18 to be a mission reviewer...at least then I might not keep on bugging you...not that I already have or anything.

Anmac, I DID download all the addons required from your site.

As I said, I got an error on the TJP_MH60. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the addon- but no joy. ???

Ex-Ronin - [and anybody else looking to review]

If you want to be a mission reviewer, the first thing you've got to accept is that you're going to need to install a whole range of addons, often obscure, and often never used for anything else other than the individual mission being reviewed.

Addons like Gunslingers and Kegs are pretty much part of the standard add-ons requirements. Likely, you'll need a hell of a lot more.

That's something that potential reviewers should bear very close in mind when applying.

Very true. And may I also add that it will be very frustrating if you don't have a fast internet connection. I have no access to ahything other than dial-up, and was a reviwer a long time ago. I could hardly ever find a mission that:

a) Didn't require 20MB of obscure addons

AND

b) worked once I finally got it installed

Ex-Ronin - [and anybody else looking to review]

Well, after Anmac's post I decided I don't want to follow up my interest, simply because I don't want any editor upgrades on my PC.

Like I said, I would have downloaded everything else, but everything else is nowhere near a pain as editor upgrades, especially considering since I'm doing my own editing and having the editor clogged up with useless items like tree1, stone 3 etc. does not help me at all.

Ah well :)

Ex-RoNiN, why don't you do what I do .... I have an "addons not in use" folder.    That way I only have stuff like tree32 when I want it.    It's a bit tedious transferring addons in and out of the Addons folder sometimes, but as nothing compared to the trouble of downloading them in the first place.
Title: Re:Do you want to be a mission reviewer?
Post by: Archangel Scream on 12 Oct 2002, 10:40:22

Absolutely, Mac - I've got something like 650 megs of addons. Had to separate into two folders. But damn, you need to keep a close eye on keeping the essential ones in your main folder.

Yeah, before reformatting I had around 2 gig's of addons :)

It is OFPEC policy that only persons over 18 years of age can be staff members.

Reason why I am not a reviewer anymore nor a staff member. :(

I, personally, think that this rule is a piece of **** because a lot of talented people are under 18.

Grrrrrr. IÂ'm pissed off right now! Do I have to review OFP BETA missions in six years before I get to review the real stuff?!

That gives me a thought, instead of comments in the mission review page, why canÂ't the readers make their own?

Now that I read this thread, and found that you need to be over the ages of 18 is truly something that should not be at a place like this...

I am 16 years old, and I have done many more important things that just "review missions" I am a Headline news poster at the "dead" but still existing OFP Arena.  I did very important videogame reviews at Action-Arenathat earned me that gold status.

Not to mention a great deal of the OFP Community is UNDER the age of 18, and some very good scripts and missions ETC were made by these youngsters.  This almost seems like a porno video subscription where you need to be 18 or older to call.  That does'nt seem to fit correctly with a large OFP database area like this, where it's stage is higher than any other OFP Web Site to date for the past years.

I was infact hoping to join the Mission Review team, but sadly this "rule" is holding me back from this.  While I understand that ofpec wishes to "maintain" it's mature looks and honorable status, I at least think you should give the youngsters a chance.  After all they have a more broad imagination than those of older people.

I request this "18 or older" rule be discussed with the OFPEC Web Site team.  Ages under 18 years, should definately be "tested" at least to decide if they have good typing skill and quality with missions.

Like me, I understand the basic rundown of reviewing items...
-Quality of the mission
-Is this worth the download
-type of person who will like this mission/who will not
-Ingenuity from the rest of the missions located out and about

and of course my favorite part, the total score...

I have been doing reviews for many years now, and I am only 16 and think you should change this 18 or older thing.

I am almost positive you can find a 15-16-17 year old who can do a job better than you anticipated...

MISSION REVIEW (by Spec Op 9)

OVERVIEW

Basic understanding of the mission is included here,
and a picture that fits well with the other mission pics
that came with the original game.

INTRO & OUTRO

Intros lately have been the same time and time again.
Anmac's Intro is based on showing what your missions are,
and small tidbits of what you will be up against.
The Outros on the other hand add a few giggles, believe
it or not when you are killed.
The other Outro is pretty basic and shows what you would
expect from a job well done.  But you need to see these
for yourself.

BRIEFING

This mission comes with a very nice Briefing indeed.
A straightfoward assignment is quickly slapped on this
nice Briefing file, so you can easily see what you need
to do.
Also Anmac has taken his voice and implemented it into
the pages in the briefing.  Seems pointless, but it actually
feels like your commanding officer is talking to you while
you look at your little Briefing book.
Also, what most Briefings DO NOT HAVE, Anmac was sure to
include in this mission.  He activated the weapon selection,
so you can choose what type of gear and weapons you want
yourself and your troops to have.

MISSION

You start your mission near sundown, which sets the mood of the
mission instantly.  You and your troops board a chopper, and
eject to your starting point.  Scripts do all of this for you,
so you do not need to worry about ordering your troops to
fly away, or eject.

You are supported by transports to get you around the mission.
Sometimes you may come along some trouble in your travels, which
I love to see in a mission, it adds that realistic touch to it.

Eventually you place a huge bomb beneath the bridge, and then
take off to blow a Bio weapon truck.

This mission is worth a download if you are feeling bored.
Also, it requires a pretty hefty deal of addons for this
mission.  So if you have a modem connection, take that into
thought.

If you are the type of person who likes small sabotage missions,
and then all out fights, this is a cool mission that I think
Anmac spent a days worth of creating.

SCORE:

OVERVIEW:  8
BRIEFING:  7
Scripting: 7
Camera:    7

7/10

Now let's pretend I did not write that mission review..

and that a diffrent mission reviewer did.

I would see no big huge diffrence between the two!

Thus, it concludes my statement on this topic,
hence, I think I did a good job for a days worth of OFPEC forum posting ;) :D :)

Post by: Sui on 21 Feb 2003, 02:02:05
The rule has been discussed, and has been revisited a number of times.

As far as I know, it's not going to change. Sure I'll bet there are some under 18 year olds out there that would do great reviews, and would have the maturity and commitment to work at a site like this.

However, OFPEC has been burned in the past by staff who were not up to scratch, who didn't have the level of maturity and professionalism necessary to get the job done reliably.
By hiring under 18 year olds it has been found in the past that we take a large risk, vying for their attention between their schooling/educational needs etc etc.

Anyway, for further info I refer you upstairs to Wolfsbane... but I can pretty much guarantee you this rule isn't going to change ;)

One last thing, Spec Op 9, aka Klesh...

Please don't take this as a personal attack, but I fail to see how you can claim to have the maturity needed for a job when it was your attitude and display of gross immaturity that got you banned from this forum not so long back... ::)
Title: Re:Do you want to be a mission reviewer?
Post by: SpecOpWarrior on 21 Feb 2003, 04:46:49
so long back, was when I was 14 years old.
Title: Re:Do you want to be a mission reviewer?
Post by: SpecOpWarrior on 21 Feb 2003, 05:04:52
Ohhh yes, if Maturity is the case, then I can understand what you mean by not having a few people on the top of things with a certain mission.  However, most of these people it does not hurt to test, for example one day, somebody you hired wrote a pretty good understandable and fairly decent mission review.  And then one day, they did not get enough sleep and decide to slack off and write one of the most laughable mission review.  It does not hurt, to look at a persons backround.  Looking at backrounds, and checking if he/she has had expierence is a major thing that can show you if they are on paar with his tasks that are given to him.

Take a look at job applications, on the application you see the questions "maybey"

Most recent Job:

Reasons for Leaving:

Well this is obvious that they are asking you..

"Did you suck at it?"
"or did you just not like it?"

and maybey a few others that are'nt as important....

Basically I am just saying that how about having a look over it one more time at least.  Truly if this web site was created by you guys, you can create something that works for everybody.

Maybey you could make it so Wolfsbane needs to approve the review before releasing?  I think it's a good idea to me...

Besides there are so many missions sitting in that pending list that I think I could get 10 of those in one day...

But yes, hopefully a team member aims Wolfsbane to this here thread...

Another thing I don't understand....

It's that damn easy to lie about your age too...
I see no point in "Online" age restrictions.

Then again thats just Spec Op 9
but at least give this topic some thought ay Wolf?

Sui
Sui sui sui, my man....
A personal attack is only effected to those who think it.
And the gross immaturity, is obviously not here on the forums
after.. 2 years was it? :P

Thanks for your input.

Unfortunately, this is a rule that will not be changed.

We are, however, looking at developing the younger generation of mission reviewers.

More information soonish.

 ;)

P.S. This is not the topic for debates, please stop filling it with posts that should be posted in a fresh topic.  That isn't to say you should start one on the age issue.  As there is no point.  ;)
