Title: Post Nuclear War
Post by: fishous on 03 Aug 2004, 20:48:18
What about a campaign based after a nuclear war with destroyed towns and waste land landscapes, the campaign could follow your character forming some tribe and tring to scalvage any surviving weapons or vehiclas.
As always just a thought.
P.S sos about my spelling i'm not that could at it

Sounds good. A nuclear war hmmmm..... Someone in my clan; The 23rd, created a Nuclear Bomb as a weapon. Take a look:

Features include:
-2 modes avaiable for the B61: Free Fall and IR or laserguided
-Warning messages
-Special explosion effects:
-Flash of intense light
-Intense light simulating the heat
-Shockwave
-Mushroom
-Dust
-Parachute for the free fall bomb
-The bomb can be disarmed after launch (the dropped bomb doesn't explode after impact on ground)
-Sound of the atomic explosion and of the dropped bomb

-The complessive radius of the A-bomb is about 1400 meters;
-Total destruction (all buildings destroyed): 800-850 meters from the ground zero
-Heavy destruction (armored vehicles destroyed or heavy damaged): 1000 meters from the ground zero
-Light destruction (pelope died and vehicles light damaged): 1300 meters from the ground zero

It looks cool huh? We can use it as the intro, so u see how everything got destroyed. And then you see: 2 years later or summin and then the mission starts.

But unfortunatly i haven't heard from him...
But i'll inform you gys when i have it

Cya On The Battlefield     *Salut*

Wouldn't need no tribes, you'd need a shelter to hide from that radiation for a month at least.  So you should say probably two months later or something, maybe a month and six days?  Right about then you'd probably have to set out to find civilization and contact them so you can get some friggin food n water, or maybe they're looking for you too.  What's the threat though?

I've been playing with the post nuclear war idea except on a miltary idea (small unit of soldiers who survived) the only problem is that I need a ruined city or wasteland map for the battles.  I'm a big fan of Fallout 1&2 and I like the idea of it a lot.

@BronzeEagle

The threat could be other survivors, needing food and weapon, etc. One could follow the plot of Fallout 1 (the first part of it, without the supermutants, or u'd fall into a SF mission/campaign  ;D).
But basically, searching for water, food, a water-chip, or something vital for ur survival,...

Nice idea  8)

Reconforce posted a smallish island on ofp.gamezone.cz called War Island, which looks suitably nuked.

http://ofp.gamezone.cz/index.php?sekce=islands&archiv=true&page=6

It's full of wrecked vehicles, broken vegetation and ash-like wasteland.  Very atmospheric with some fog on.  There's a lot of objects so it might be laggy on an old system, although I've played around with it and had no problems on my PC.

Probably not enough to it for a full campaign, but it's a start.

War Island I've downloaded and tried myself.  It's good for that scenario.

Yeah that island would be a good one to use. Alternatively, if you didn't want to make your own, you could wait for John's Winter Island http://ofp.gamezone.cz/ (http://ofp.gamezone.cz/) (or ofp.info)--prime news, can't miss it-- to be released, that would probably work as well. Although it would be a lot more demanding on older machines than War Island.

Its beginning to sound a lot like a book I once read. Called something like "Brother In The Land". They should've made that into a film. Its basically the same concept. If you are looking for something a little different to basing it on one of the Fallout games, I would recomend using it for reference/research.--It has names of different "tribes" etc.

I read that book. Very good but wouldn't be suitable cos of it bein set in a city (lag issues). I think they did make it into a movie (not a very good one). It kinda made the book look bad.

Back to the subject then 'ey. The story of Brother In The Land was good, and would be awesome in a mission based on it.

Nuke goes off, survivors are enslaved by what's left of the military, the civilians fight back, and it all ends up in civil war.

That'd be cooooooooooooool :P

Exactly what I was thinking. ;)

Maybe, instead of having a big city, have ones like on WarIsland where there are a few rural villages not too large and not really moden.

Or perhaps, someone could re-do a BIS Island (like Jungle Everon, Winter Nogova etc.) except as a post nuclear war setting.

Kegetys Winter Kolgujev?  With low light levels during missions, it wuold give a good nuclear winter effect.
