OK.. in theory isn't it possible to have a unit totally disappear to the AI for a short period of time?
a looping script that causes a knowsabout 0 condition for all other units on the map? and that can be initiated and terminated multiple times?
if so... what do you guys think would be a good path to take towards making said script...

unit setcaptive true

That's effectively what the setcaptive command does as far as I know...
