whats with the caps lock? its makes your post harder to read - not easier

the object id's are basically a way of identifying EVERY object on the map...

in this way you can use that object ID to, say, make a unit walk to a specific tree, or a bomb be created at a specific house.

very handy if you know how to use it properly - which i dont.

Don't ever type in all caps again. It's irritating, and no one on this forum likes it.  Also, do not double post, i suggest you delete your last pst before a mod does it for you.

  I think that you can use those numbers pretty much as you would unit/gamelogic names in scripts and such Messiah..
I'm pretty sure that in one of the BIS Missions that's how they made the bridge destroyed objective check off.. by checking damage levels on the object numbers themselves using a getdammage command ;)

* I believe I read on here somewhere that if you attempt to move one of those numbered objects and it doesn't get moved back to the exact spot it was in then bad bad things will happen :noo:

@leon

Please don't post in capitals again. It's really hard to read such a post. It's also for your best. Some people won't bother to read a post written in caps (I wouldn't but unfortunately I have to). And a question that no-one reads isn't worth the effort, is it? ;)

@tai mai shu

You're not in the position to tell anyone what's acceptable and what's not. And especially not in that tone. We have our moderators for that and they are  very capable of handling any situation in the forums. And if you think that a thread needs moderating, use the "report to moderator" function and every nescessary step will be taken.

@Gameer_77

Nobody will hose anyone down. These comments are completely unnescessary in the forums. The only thing they are good for is to heat a flame war. So keep them for yourself in the future.

@anyone whom it may concern

We don't need a bunch of wannabe moderators who try to do some peacekeeping in the forums. We have our staff for that and they can handle every situation in an appropriate way. If you want to help them doing their jobs, use the "report to moderator" function where you think it's needed or inform the moderators privately if you feel offended by someone else.

Thank you.

A really useful thing to use the object ID for is to turn on/off the lights in villages using triggers, etc.  This means you can have a nice dark village for a blackops mission, and maybe the lights come on when alarms are activated.

(object OBJECTID) switchlight "STATUS"

where status in on, off, or auto (on at night - default)

This is the simplest and most useful thing I've used the IDs for.

Yeah, there's that.
And then there's the getDammage thing that Black_Feather talked about.
You can have pre-placed buildings as objectives, when it's destroyed an objective either activates or fails depending on if you are supposed to defend or attack the building in question.

Boy that Sefe really put him in his place. All this aggro just for USING CAPS LOCK WHEN TRYING TO WRITE A POST! I FIND IT EASIER TO READ ANYWAY AND I THINK IT IS ATTRACTIVE

Its ugly, rude and bad netiquette.  Learn how to read proper typing and the world will be your friend.
