 ???  does it exist a good converter for 3dsmax r4 for import of o2 files ?

no,
send as .asc
convert to 3ds in milkshape or convert using converter
and load into max that way.
sending as 3ds dont work for me,but this does,but
unfortunately you lose all the lods and named selections. :(
