Title: Trains?
Post by: recon on 04 Nov 2002, 14:55:00
I may be pushing it a bit here, but would it be possible to make an island with a train track and working train, would be cool for WW2 missions, eg (destroy german supply lines, steal weapons on train) something like that.

You could model a train i suppose and then create a map which has some of the road textures replacd with a texture of a railway track. That way the AI would "drive" the train along the track. But it may be VERY difficult to get this looking anything like realistic.

it might be poss. (via the config - turn stuff ) to make the "train" drive straight forward only,
but what about the waggons ?? Guess we need a BIS truck with a hanger-on before we can
create real trains  :-\

           (and ROAD TRAINS  :o 8) ;D )!!!!!!

I was thinking about making a static train engine for the time being?

think there would be any interest in that?   I've got a couple of really good leads on models..  ;D

Good idea about the trains!  :)
I think that its possible with animation editing and with o2 and wrp edit. Its not impossible to make 'em only difficult and time consuming. :P

Thanks buddy, A static train would be perfect, or an island with one long straight track, the train could travel up and down the line, you could add tunnels under mountains and bridges over rivers.

Island makers could make sorta half - :booty:  tunnels.....  you'd just need a couple of objects to make the "roof",
you could just make a hill with a tunnel going through as a "building" that could be placed in the editor also...

I'm not sure how much this would contribute to lag... guess it would depend on the size of your "hill"
