Before losing a lot of posts to the Great Digital Unknown (tm bedges) I posted in this thread saying that I would review this one. But, as I haven't got a lot of time lately (not for the next few weeks probably) I don't know if anyone else of the mission staff would like to review this one?

If not, I'll try to review it in the spare time I find, but it won't go fast and smooth that way.

EDIT: I'll review this campaign.

                         Review 1

Well written readme and thanks for the Mikero's 103 update( is it really called that??) included in the unzipper part.

Intro- Nice, sets moods well done.

Break down- My review is quick and what I remembered to write down and what i remebered as I write this. I also skipped some of the missions because I was so close to the end and I died.

Brothers- Cops and robbers cool I can do this. The Helio appears out of now where. Try to get away die from missiles a lot and finnally give up and go with the police.

Forest- Well its weird. Did not like this.

BlueFlag-
fun interesting great work here. just right.

Corpals- Ok, it was just there. To be Honest I just had everyone drop there Mags. and shot all the ammo out. Pick a guy F4 and he was my sharp shooter. Lucky I guess.

Everon's Coup- Aaahhh the meat of the whole campaign. I had no probems here( no show stoppers). Hard to do. Skipped some here.
One thing here was that the "Id the tanks because A10's are here" didnt work well I Binoc'd all the Tanks and it would only get a few Id and they only took out 3, until I actually got really close to town and risked life.
Oh ya the mission(Take out the Arty) where the hostages of resistance they didnt join me(should have because my group was shot up and lost 5 men) but they joined the fight anyway and helped out. The Tanks came to fast.

Second Phase- dont remember this one. Interlude to the next Island??

1st contact- Fun a lot things going on. 1st island is fun to do and bmp on the second Island was taken out by gernades and then for good measure again with the Civy Idea.

Beach Head- neat Idea, the light was tuff to do.

General Yazov- the fuel out was a pain in the rear. some of my men were SPF and regular Tankers?? Made it to the General. "I" Took him out from a distance...Then all of a sudden I died or appeared to die. It said the General was dead and was starting whirl around and then it ended with me as standing up. No retry here. Is this a bugg. Is the ending trigger ok here??

Outro- dont know stopped the campaign here.

My Take- My veiw is that there is 4 separte mission/campaigns here. Cops and robbers. An Outerspace/Haunted mission campaign. The fist Main rebels. Then the Russian Rogue General. Some of the cut scenes/ transittions are a little long. I realize your telling a story here but waiting to play next mission lets the Air out of tire here if ya know what I mean. The campiagn goes flat..excitment dies down.
Get Rid of the Haunted mission.
Try to show the Rogue General, way earlier in the campaign recruiting Rebels..he gets arrested and then breaks out later.
Some of the Sub-missions seem to be a bit long.
The killing of the general needs to be looked at. I was standing up with in the dead screen doing its thing and the general dead.

I loved some of the things you did here. The flag on the men fun and neat in the resistance joinning in the fight. The some cut scenes were nicely done.
I really appreciate all the hard work done here. Soooo Many things that are nice gems in here that I know are not easy to incorparte in a No-add on mission.
Just re- think the Story Line Here. You have a good missions/campaign here and it will be a Great Campaign if you Iron-Out some it. Keep it going. ;)

Hi sharkyjoe and thanks for the quick review.

Second Phase is second part of Everon's operations.

About the Yazov's dead "bug", may be it is not exactly a bug. You were ordered to capture the general, not to kill him. If you kill him there is no way to interrogate him and continue the campaign. But I cannot use a loose end here, so I "kill" the player (not really as you will see you are alive, but the mission ends here) and you still can retry from your last saved game. With a "loose" end you would not be able to retry from last saved game and you would be forced to repeat the entire mission. Or is that you were unable to retry after killing Yazov?

As a side note, Grunt ONE has several parts, the operations previous to Yazov's intervention, the arrival to Urup Island and then the fight against Sons of Twisted Cobra organization.

Review: by Cheetah

Overview
In a campaign the overview is a minor thing. Every mission overview has a picture taken from a particular scene in the mission, fine.

Cinematics
One of the things that shouldn't be overlooked in a campaign are the cutscenes. Mandoble did a good job in the cinematics department, telling the story in his own way. The cutscenes are to the point, generally without dialogues, and are meant to show the strategic movements of the Army. Dialogues are there, but they are spread thin and are of little value to the overall feeling of the campaign. Most of the cutscenes are action based: ships are being sunk, rocket systems fired and aircraft delivering their deadly loads get a close up. The cutscenes do their job, they suck the player deeper into the action.

Of course there are some things which could've been done better. Several camera angles could've been improved or scenes shortened, some good dialogues are missing and there is no voice acting present in the campaign. Overall, a lot of well made cutscenes, but few great ones.

Briefings
Briefings are important when cinematics are lacking, in Grunt ONE most of the story is told in its missions and cutscenes.
This means that the briefings can be to the point and in fact are. Plans are rarely longer than one page and many notes sections consist of just a few lines. Most briefings don't add much to the overall feeling, but don't do wrong either.

Missions
There is a large variety of missions in Operation Urup: Grunt ONE. Sixteen missions are waiting for you in this campaign and they're all linked together and about of the same quality, which is something a campaign needs. Objectives go from investigating weird sounds to capturing high ranked enemies. In one mission you'll be commanding your squad through a training area, whereas in another you'll have to keep them sharp to prevent damage to a SCUD. The missions can be divided roughly into three categories, Training, Urup Operation and Covert Operation. Do not make the mistake to misjudge the difficulty of any mission. You don't want an avalanche hitting your truck loaded with a chemical warhead, nor do you want a rivaling company to win the shooting contest.

Usually a campaign features lots of short missions, not with this one. Mandoble brings to you a fine selection of missions with an above average playlength. Numerous times a mission seemed to end, but didn't. This can cause frustration, but gives more joy upon completion. This campaign will keep you busy for roughly eight to ten hours, maybe more. You'll notice that a lot of work has been spent on the details. Fountains are working, civilians walk and drive everywhere and the number of objects used in some missions is enormous. A lot of towns and places have been redone. Take a look at for example Petrovice or the airport in the southwest of Nogova. The lag factor is non existent in most missions, in only two missions it could be a problem for older PCs.

Many missions are challenging and full of additional stuff. Civilians reveal ammo depots and important information which can be used to complete a mission in a different fashion. The author also added a lot of details, for example, pay attention to hostages. One wrong grenade can make a husband pretty angry and your uniform won't stop him from attacking you. You'll notice the large amount of scripted events, like awesome missiles and a bus system. Missions can be challenging because of timers, hard objectives or well placed enemies. Some may find it hard to complete missions, be sure to check all possibilities and speak to civilians for information.

Special
By using the radio you can do special things. There's a limited number of savegames available in most missions, as well as an option to skip a mission. What I found useful at times was the option to request a repeat of the last order, it's not available in later missions though.

For me, the story of a campaign has to be discussed here, in the special section. Everything starts in a hotel, red lights, with three men sitting at a table discussing their plans. The atmosphere is set and can be creepy at times. The story is pretty good, although not much attention is spent on the personality of most characters. You get a pretty good feel of the character you're playing, the others remain flat. What may disturb some people is  "The Forest", a mission where you do a routine guard. Love it or hate it, but don't let it stop you playing the other missions. I'm glad that the campaign story is decent though, some players may not like some (semi)-endings, most will.

Conclusion
In short, the campaign plays like an exciting and well filmed action movie. With lots of video material of decent quality and lengthy missions keeping you occupied for many hours. Objectives can be accomplished multiple ways which opens up more possibilities for the player. A lot of details have been added and may keep surprising you during play, but won't cause severe lag.

Custom voices would definitely make this a very high quality campaign, but getting lots of actors is almost impossible. The story seems odd sometimes, but all works and fits. Upon completion I was satisfied, some may not like the end but you'll find that out after having played 15 entertaining missions. I definitely recommand this campaign to everyone.

Can't even finish the first mission as the 'stone house' is not there and the black chest is floating high in the air...

May be you are mixing editor103.pbo with the older ones.

Make sure editor103.pbo is in your addon folder and make sure any of these older ones dont:
          o EditorUpdate1.pbo
          o EditorUpdate102.pbo
          o EditorUpgrade102.pbo
          o Objects1.pbo
          o Objects2.pbo

Your problem will probably be fixed because of what Mandoble wrote, but if that's not the case please write down the full errors so what we can check what your problem is.

I did remove them, but I guess EditorUpdate1.pbo = EditorUpgrade1.pbo? because I didn't have EditorUpdate1.pbo.
I'll remove the EditorUpgrade1.pbo file I have to see if it fixes it.

hi guys, first of all ive not read much of the above review by Cheetah , i dont want to spoil anything. in the mission where you pick your best sharp shooter i allways pick the wrong man. iam just looking for a helpful hint please. ive also skipped the forest because i die when i follow the stars to the small building, i look around there but nothing happens, and i die.
i must say this is an amazing storyline with top scripting Mandoble!  theres easy play without tons of info to read, straight to the point. [i dont think most players need the TOE and TDA of units and whats for dinner] cheers

Hint for the forest:
At the left of the ruined church, near two crosses there is a healing point (you may use it only once), at your camp, inside the tent, there is a second healing point (you may use it as many times as needed).

Hint for the shooting range:
place groups of three soldiers at the shooting range each time, the farther from the targets, the better to discover the best shooter. Assign a different target for each of your men (still holding fire), so you dont have two soldiers firing at the same spot. Then order them to open fire and check results with your binocs. Most of your men will fire with high dispersion except one, your best shooter. Repeat with the next group of three men till they spend all the ammo. And remember, if you place your men too close to the targets, the high dispersion of the "bad" shooters will not be so noticeable. Even better results if you can keep them standing up while firing.

This is the "legal" way to do it, but of course you may play with saving, answering, loading, answering and so on.

ok thanks, hope this helps others as well. i let them all open fire at once, so now i know why the binocs where at hand! this is one of the things i like about the mission/ champaign  . and yes i tryed to trick your game with the ol' shift - savegame,,,, you got me!!!!! good on you Mandoble your very clever!

I keep getting missing addons "objects" but only in some cutscenes so far.
Title: Re: Grunt ONE by Mandoble
Post by: Mandoble on 20 Feb 2007, 08:17:01
OAM, Grunt ONE does not use objects addon, it only uses editor103.pbo which is included into the zip file.

Install instructions:
1 - If you dont have already, place editor103.pbo into your "OperationFlashpoint\Res\AddOns" directory.
2 - Place GruntONE_v2.2.pbo file into your "OperationFlashpoint\Res\Campaigns" directory.

NOTES about Mikero's editor update (editor103.pbo):
editor103.pbo substitutes the following old editor addons (editor103 is 100% backward compatible with them), if you have any of them, delete it or move it to a backup folder:

   EditorUpdate1.pbo
   EditorUpdate102.pbo
   EditorUpgrade102.pbo
   Objects1.pbo
   Objects2.pbo

Belive me, it happens after a clean install with the editor being the only addon.  I've tried to fix it before, I just have never reported it before, as most threads were old, so I though this would be as good as any spot to report it.  Don't take it personaly.

Alright, just got to the end, I must say quite enjoyable despite my problems, the plot twist at the end is awsome, I won't tell as that'll just really ruin it more then any other spoiler for anything might, but now I realize in the review there was one broad hint.

Strange that everyone has so many trouble playing this campaign. I've never experienced any problems with the editor103 after deleting all other editorupgrades from the addons folder.

Anyway, small hint? 8)

Yes, do you might know why mine wont extract it or complete the file? It says it's corrupt. Now when I download the file to, it downloads in like 3 seconds. I have 56k internet, so you can tell there is something wrong with that. Is there another link somewhere for that campaign?

Thanks

That's strange, I'll upload it again. When I download it, I download a ~7 mb file, which should take a while to download on 56k.

corrupt files over and over is a bit of a put off? ,,,,, this down load works for me but i like this campaine. but i must say i think there is downloader's that dont complain about this, i dont want to carry on about it but, this does happen, why?, i mean you can d/l 9 things and the 10th wont! is this a ofpec thing or globel prob? NOT to cut ofpec "my only website for OFP". but why? iam in australia ,,, i dont know but i would like to see it easy for anyone to get their hands on this stuff, and Cheetah missions too!
but iam NOT blaming OFPEC at all, have to make that clear!!!!!!!!!!!!!! best regards to all  :)

Good job Mandoble!
Had a problem at the lending house. I couldn't find any money nor did it helped to escape. I even ran back and forward until she ran out of ammo and then went throughly looking and  upstairs, downstair for a pretty long time. Any hints?

This is minor hint and a minor spoiler:

Go upstairs, turn right leaving the woman in the first room, now you are into a room with a balcony. This room has a green locker, check it. Then just run through the balcony, you will land at ground level outside avoiding any attacks from the woman. The monely lender will go outside after killing one your brothers, so you better hide yourself somewhere, preferably not in your car (if you want to keep alive).

Yes, that addon is known for causing problems.  My error is most likely due to the fact I must copy and paste some stuff from the CD or installation doesn't work, its a well documented problem that is found in one of the BI FAQs, I just figured that out, so don't worry anymore about my problem.

For my side i have no problem with the campaign. It's a very nice good campaign...
Otherwize i experienced a lot of bad things by using the EditorUpgrade103.
For example, it makes a mess in the Mission Editor ... Some orginal BIS addons disappeared or appeared at different places. It seems the classification has been changed. Worst it replaced objects by others in my own missions.
The classification by EU-XXXXXXX has disappeared, it was very useful... This was brought by the EditorUpgrade102 ... No more in EU103  >:(
Now i've finished Grunt One; i put back my old EU1.X.X and objectX.pbo... The only thing i disagree is the lost of the lights included in EU103 :'(
I'll try to extract them to independant file.pbo...

Manoble, your script for the fountain was a smart idea ...  :D

Goullou, it seems EditorUpgrade102 comes from MapFac and it has no relation with objects1, objects2 or editorUpdate102. It seems to have similar objects, but it is seems also to be compatible as they are different things. So, IMO, you may have EditorUpgrade102 from MapFact working together with Mikero's editor103.pbo.

Mandbole , you've got me on this game ,,,, really bad, is all to strange and weird, every mission goes on and on , I cant help myself, space invaders , Mario brothers,?!? Replays, savegame, Over and over again, I have to stop for 20 min or 2 days. At the moment iam rating this 2. of course I Might change my mind, :)  iam very "intrigued"  [[[spoiler, don't read on]]],[[ and mostly don't read on because your gaming might be different then mine and just confuse you!!!]]],,,  :shhh:I'll keep this simple and coded , iv got a soldier watching the general , have 4 others with me and a tank, ive armed myself well and have mines satchels and rpg's , Ive the enemy cleared but cant take out the last 72. mind you iam watching for snipers aswell, "the random ones!"

forces are heavy in this game, but killing over 45 enemys in a missions pretty cool,,,, can you post here or send me a pm,, is it flanking? Or what? please?, schuler

EDIT i have 1.2Editor and then Mikero's editor103 in res/folder, works for me,

At the moment iam rating this 2.

I stop playing anything I rate below 5, for your case, best you can do is stop playing it at all. As I cannot understand the rest of your message, I cannot be of any help. May be you could, at least, tell wich mission are you talking about inside the campaign. But, sincerely, dont torture yourself playing such a crap any more.

the mission is General Yazov. Iam at the part where i need to take out the T72 garding the Hinds and take him to the NE Island. i have a crew in a T55 but they have no chance of taking out the T72. iam at a savegame but now iam wondering if i need to go back?

Aha, so you ran low on armour, then you better try to steal a M17 (that info is provided by Wolf with a cutscene so it is not an spoiler). Mi17 base defenses are easlily beatable but there are armoured patrols nearby, if you avoid them you will be able to get that M17 (you should have its icon on the map).

Mandoble, cheers, but iam stuck again. In The Mayor, ive followed the heli to the NE Island. I had to bail out of the civil air plane and eliminated all enemy. my body gaurd must have hit the water. I don’t know what to do now. Ive tried out running the gas with the jeep to the other side of the island and also tried using a boat. The only thing I can think of now is to take the boat to the main island and booming the warhead with a stolen heli or something? The 1st warhead was contained, but ive had no help with this one?!?! Can ya give me a hand?
p.s. i got a kick out of the yellow sport car brakedown, that was cool. thanks Schuler

Your bodyguard was still alive in the NE island???  LOL, what a Rambo  :D

Once your plane gets out of fuel a friendly group will contact you from Kvilda after few minutes. They will take a boat and disembark in the beach near the small town placed just SW of the small island bridge, you must join that group as leader and storm the enemy base (W or small island) to recover the last warhead (take good care of these men as the there are enemies West and East of that island). Then move your group to the East and stole one of the boats you will find in an small port near the East corner of the small island and return to Kvilda.

Vitaly's boat run out of fuel after reaching Oliseiv's beach, so you need to steal a boat from the eastern port. To recover the warhead you need to find it, did you? It is hidden in the center of a big hangar, protected by some guards. Once you recover it the info about Kvilda is providen.

BTW, all Vitaly's men are dead? did they at least join you at Oliseiv's beach?

NOTE: I assume the second warhead is already there, an enemy agent transports it there by chopper from Nogova's SW airport, the chopper you follow in the Cessna. He lands near the hangars right to the runaway, picks up a car and gets into the enemy base, leaving the warhead inside the big hangar.

i found the warhead, it is a in a box at the hanger,  the agent and i the only enemy on the island that are still alive, some cilivins too. do i kill the agent?
all Vitaly's men are dead. all enemys on the island are dead, unless one is some where and ive not killed him yet?!?!, in that case a trigger is not activated. do you think i need to look for more enemy? to activate a trigger? and yes they joined me at Oliseiv's beach. they did well but all are dead...

Nope, in fact you dont "need" to kill anyone. When you aproach that warhead (close enough to it) it is picked up by you and removed from its position, and what you need is to transport it to Kvilda Church (you will not "see" the box over your head as that was quite problematic when crossing the bridge to the East). If you are alone in the island, it should be easy to steal a boat and go to Kvilda, may be you missed some hint text and Vitaly radio transmission there in the middle of a fight indicating to proceed that way. Try to reach Kvilda and get into the Church where Vitaly should be waiting for you.

Before I'm able to check the trigger controlling second warhead (at office now) you may try to change terrail detail to high and move quite close to that box, may be the terrain detail makes your unit to be a bit farther (higher over the ground) than needed. BTW, kill also that agent, after all, it is an enemy terrorist :P

Ok, the trigger is activated when:
- player is closer than 2m from trigger's center AND
- player is closer than 10m from second box.

supposedly, the enemy agent deposits the box in the center of the hangar, where the trigger is placed, but if he didnt (he placed the warhead slight to the left/right/up/down the center, you may try to walk around the center of the hangar and trying to keep closer than 10m to the box. That will trigger vitaly's radio messages guiding you to Kvilda church.

i got it but iam not sure if i did it the right way. i had to move the box back to the hagger useing a truck. then the gas leaked, so i saved myself at the healing mash cabinet. i have the box and the mesage to go to Kvilda. ive made it to the main island but i have no map. at the moment iam trying to use the map you posted. also i found a church with 3 dead guys there. did the gas kill them? did i mess the game up by setting off the gas? cheers schuler

Didnt you recover the updated Nogova's map at Lipany?  Were you driving all the mission without that map?

Well, yes, the gas has a big big range and enough duration to kill anyone, it will kill also units at Kvilda. These three men were the ones waiting for you, two near the church door and Vitaly inside near the altar. So you gassed them all  :D

Something I dont get, the box was in the hangar so why were you forced to return it to the hangar using a truck? And, if no enemies were left firing at your truck, why is that the warhead was damaged? Did you crash the truck?

Post by: schuler on 17 May 2007, 15:36:03
lol yes i got the map. i dont know what happened to the map after the gas. yes i killed the guys at the church. but they left me their truck, i drove the truck to lipany to get a new map but i think the girls are mad at me for killing everyone  :)  it wasnt easy driving all the hills and trees but i found Davele [the town with the bridge] then i knew where i was at and then found Lipany,,,,,, ive now been arrested for forceing a lock on a truck  i think i'll set in jail for a bit with my dammaged warhead and then skip to the next mission. i dont know how i goofed it all up but it kinda makes me laugh :D ,,,, also the box was not in the hanger, something must have gone wrong, the trigger didnt work because the box was in the wrong spot,, i dont think you planed for someone like me to set the gas off and heal themselfs over and over again by the MASH kit in the hagger  ;)  i couldnt push the box myself so i pushed it with the truck to get it closer to the hangar :P ,,,,if you hit it to hard with the truck it goes off ,,,, funny stuff huh?

Well, dont want to even imagine what are you going to do with the warhead inside a truck in the next mission

All in all, you did most if not all what's pending to be done in that mission, if you still experience any problem finishing it, just use the "Skip" radio option, there is nothing left there.

No more in EU103 Â Angry
Now i've finished Grunt One; i put back my old EU1.X.X and objectX.pbo... The only thing i disagree is the lost of the lights included in EU103 :'(
I'll try to extract them to independant file.pbo...

not one single item of any of the official models or addons from BI is changed altered bashed ammended or fiddled with by ANY of the Editor102.pbos. THis includes the orginal kegetys, gunslinger, barron, and myself.

Kegs used interesting 'classifications' like AAA111 for a house, I use ED102_BROWN_HOUSE as a little more descriptive when an author is trying to figure out what to put in his mission. It is true, that ED103 attempts to re-classify or at least re-group rocks, into, well, rocks. The other changes you noted have, afaik, been welcomed by other authors in the config.cpp where a descipitve name like 'house' is used in the class statement rather than ZXY711

using objectX pbo, specifcally object2, will in most cases confuse the engine when other addons are present. notably the ags industrials. At the time of it's creation way back when, not much was known about the inter-relationships of addons, and mistakes were made. The addon you appear to be fond of, lasted approximately one week, before gunslinger merged ALL of those objects into his original 1.02. If you mix object one, with *ANY* of the 1.02 addons, the engine will get confused. Garanteed.

Am not sure what you mean by the loss of lights in EU103, afaik, ED102 is the only editor addon out there to include them.

what you might not be aware of is the 102 family of addons are unique in that they dont, themselves, contain any models at all, simply references to already existing models that were never externalised for public view.

having released 103 mid last year, with all honour and glory going to General Barron, not me, I am unaware of *any* compatibility issues . Most people would, I think, prefer a single one-stop shop than the five addons it replaces (and which cannot co-exist with each other anyway)

Greetings Mandoble, quite a campaign you've got here! I've been enjoying myself quite a bit. The first level robbery was certainly a change of pace and very well done. Anyway, I have a couple of questions:

1. Back in The Forest mission, I managed to follow the fires out to the old cabin where I get the task to find the lonely girl. However, it seems that the fires stop, as the forest cuts off shortly further south. If I leave the forest, I find the holy water at the church and a boundary. No idea where to go from here. Am I just supposed to wander around the woods some more? I skipped the mission anyway, but I'd like to go back and finish it properly.

2. I'm currently on the Everon Coup level, and I'm definitely excited about the size of this thing (reminiscent of Abandoned Armies, a little bit). Attacking Meaux is rather difficult without taking heavy casualties, because there's no real angle of attack that lets you bushwhack the enemy all at once. Attacking from the West might make this possible, but that's quite a detour from the insertion point in the forest. I did manage to take the town from the east with minimal casualties, but only by abusing the savegame cheat and lots of loads. Is there any "ideal" way to go about it? There's 3 or 4 separate squads in the town, if I'm not mistaken, and most of them have lots of good cover behind the buildings. They usually manage to spot me while I'm taking one of them down.

2. Just a minor fix. The mission tells you to mine the west road out of town, but the tanks show up on the north road.

3. I managed to free the Loyalists, take out the incoming tanks, and defend Meaux from the incoming squad from the south. My official orders are to wait for the M60s to arrive, but they arrived some 15 minutes ago. They skirmished with some BMPs from Tyrone, and they're parked on the south side of town. I got a transmission saying that the other general has arrived at the airport and dropped off an Abrams squadron, but they're just sitting up there. I got bored waiting for new orders from OGRE, since the M60s had been here for almost 20 minutes, so I took my squad and mopped up the last few soldiers in Tyrone that the M60s didn't squish from afar. I've taken St. Philippe, Meaux, and Tyrone, but my orders still tell me to wait in Meaux for the M60s. Am I supposed to go on to capture Gravette? Or is something stuck?
Title: Re: Grunt ONE by Mandoble
Post by: Mandoble on 22 May 2007, 10:26:32
1. You dont need to follow the fires in the forest :P They are there just to confuse you, you were ordered to investigate sounds comming from the South, so just go South, you'll find near the South boundary of the forest a house with misterious lights, aproach it and talk with the owner. Then locate the girl wanding by the forest (guide yourself by her screams), you will get further instructions. Then you will be able to open the tree barrier near the church and proceed to the Southern part of the area to continue with the mission.

2. When you exit the forest after your insertion point, you'll find a big barn and a hut nearby, group your men there and examine the town. You'll find a sniper in the church tower, try to kill it and wait there for enemies comming out the town looking for you. You'll be able to kill many this way. Then proceed to Meaux and be ready to lose half of your men in the process. No big deal if you free the loyalists, as they will join you later if there is any slot free in your group.

3. The mine message is refering to two roads comming both from the North or Meaux, so you need to mine the one to the West of the other.

4. Seems the M60 gunners didnt do a great job there. The condition to proceed is the following:
(damage bmp1 > 0.7) && (damage bmp2 > 0.7) && (damage bmp3 > 0.7)
So, it seems some of these bmps are not even nearly destroyed. May be a lucky hit from a M60 forced the crew of a BMP to get out it, but leaving the BMP only slightly damaged.

EDIT: A last tip for Everon. While you are at Meaux repelling the enemy BMPs, an enemy large armoured column will flank you and form up to assault the airport. So, when you get the order to return to defend the airport (surviving M60 will retreat to the airport too), try to get there at full speed, go to the Northern boundary of the airport while dodging enemy tank fire and distribute your men as quick as possible in the empty Abrams. If the airport falls in enemy hands, the mission will be lost.

Hey Mandoble, great campaign.  I have thoroughly enjoyed it so far.  I came across a problem, though, in a mission.  I had to skip the mission to take Morton and then defend Montignac.  I successfully took Figari and Morton and pulled back to Montignac as ordered.  There we took on the tanks, and destroyed every tank that came at us, I think around 6-8 or so.  Then the mission didn't do anything.  After waiting 5-10 minutes (maybe as long as 15), I skipped the mission from the radio menu.  My question is, what was supposed to happen?  In the outro it shows we lost, yet I had, up to that point, successfully completed the mission.  What was supposed to happen that didn't?

Thanks

How you were able to destroy the enemy tanks comming (8 + BMPs)? After testing over and over, Montignac defenses were always overran by the enemy assault, and, in fact, the Abrams survive there quite few seconds  (did you by any way get into any of them still able to fire)?

What was supposed to happen is:
a) A Miracle
b) Friendly Abrams destroyed (condition = none can fire). And orders to retreat to the North and then, a surprise if you retreat passing near Montignac Restaurant. If you hear an old phone ringing, get close to it  ;)

EDIT: To avoid re-starting the mission, try to make sure these Abrams cannot fire.

Post by: Pilot on 23 May 2007, 00:42:10
I remember destroying 2 BMP's, at least 2, and maybe 3 T80's, and 2 or so T72's.  That was all that came.  There definately were not 8+ BMP's.  Guess it was a waypoint screwup somewhere...

Title: Re: Grunt ONE by Mandoble
Post by: Mandoble on 23 May 2007, 00:58:35
Nope, there should not be any WP problem as the force is spawned just W/SW of Provins, from there they aproach Montignac frontally and directly. There is one BMP also attacking from the West road and 6 T80 + 2 T72 attacking from Provins. A bit later, 2 more BMPs will join the assault comming from the South.

EDIT:
Are we talking about the mission named "Second Phase" ?
Title: Re: Grunt ONE by Mandoble
Post by: Pilot on 23 May 2007, 01:04:10
Yeah, it's Second Phase.

Strange, I don't think there were that many armored vehicles present.  When the armored force from the south was attacking, I did launch an AT4 while they were still a ways off and killed a T72.  Maybe that caused them to start flanking maneuvers which scattered the whole force.  So all the tanks were flanking and going a long ways out of their way to try and catch me off guard.  I really don't know.

Title: Re: Grunt ONE by Mandoble
Post by: Mandoble on 23 May 2007, 01:44:39
Weird, but may be an explanation. So the main assault force should be still there, probably near Provins. Do you have any vehicle to go there fast to check the place and, if they are still there, try to atract their fire and guide them back to Montignac?
Title: Re: Grunt ONE by Mandoble
Post by: Pilot on 23 May 2007, 02:28:12
I did take the jeep to investigate Montignac (because the objective to save the captain wasn't checked or x'ed), and I had to pass through Provins.  Nothing there.  I didn't even get shot at the whole way down.

Greetings Mandoble. More trouble, this time in General Yazov. I saw someone asked a question about it earlier, and you said "Ah, so you're low on armor," implying that it was possible to have armor while attacking the Hind depot. But my mission basically went like this:

1. Drove out towards the supply station, ran out of fuel, went on foot, captured it, and refueled my tanks.

2. Drove out towards Yazov's base and ran out of fuel just before reaching it, in front of the machine gun nests. I wasn't close enough to open fire on the base, so I had to dismount and take on the defenders on foot.

3. I attacked Yazov's base, and he fled to the artillery HQ. I sustained heavy casualties during the attack, down to 50% men.

4. I ran to the artillery HQ and attacked it on foot, sustaining even more casualties. Now it's down to me and 3 men. I've captured Yazov, and I'm now supposed to capture the Hind depot. However, my Abrams are out of fuel way back at the first base, and I have only 3 men to push my way west. On top of this, a T80 came cruising up to the artillery depot, and I have nothing to defend myself except for a LAW launcher. Is there something I missed? Or is this normal?
Title: Re: Grunt ONE by Mandoble
Post by: Mandoble on 23 May 2007, 09:23:34
DrKissinger1
This is absolutely normal, but, probably you crossed with some civs in a motorbike, if you follow them to their house, they may give you tips about how to stole armour. Near the first Yazov's base you may have noticed an small camp with s campfire and two civil hunters there, if you speak with them they'll provide help too.

Also, if you follow the road to the hind base (North coast road), you will find parked T55s with the crews resting outside, If you are quick you may kill some crews and then steal tanks there too.

But, sooner or later, Wolf (the infiltrated one) will locate another way to evacuate Yazov, another base with a Mi17 there in the middle of the forest.

Edit: Also, from the point where your Abrams get out of fuel, you should still be able to shell Yazov's base walls with HE, opening some holes there helps a lot to infiltrate that base.

Pilot
you may try to go down to Morton and then West to Le Moule, 6 T80 cannot evaporate so easily. If there is no way to find and reactivate these tanks, I recommend you to retry the mission instead of skiping it, this mission is quite ejoyable also after Montignac was overran by the enemy counterattack.

Consider the following when retrying that mission, your forces cannot win there. So, the mission will be always a faillure. But, you may return home alone or with Morrison alive (and no, he is not held in Morton ;) ).

Ok, I will put on a fatalist attitude.  Morrison is alive?!  I had given him up for dead.  Darn you Mandoble! :P

Thanks for your help and advice.  I will retry that mission before I start the Kolgujev mission (the one with the renegade general).

Title: Re: Grunt ONE by Mandoble

>error config bis weapons

this is an 'undocumented feature' of the editor

giving anyone in the group a handgun, the addonrequirements[]= in mission.sqm does NOT automatically select bis_weapons . it must be done by hand.

once set inside mission.sqm it's neither removed by the editor should handguns be removed, nor does it cause any issues.

Ok, I played this crap four missions and now it's enough... Something about the first
missions:

Mission 1
Hmm.. all was well until I go to the house were was some man and woman in upstairs. Woman
shooted me twice when I tried to go in 2nd floor. How I can go to the 2nd floor if there
is a woman who shoots you and you have no gun?!

Mission 2
Very 'scary' mission, I never get the idea of this mission. I think 'some animal' killed me
three times because every time I flew a while and then crushed to the land (never saw
anything). Very nice indeed...

Mission 3
Well I was giving up for the campaing but the briefing of third mission set me to try one
more time. The 3rd mission was so heavy that my computer didn't roll it. I think FPS was
something about 5-10... Well, my computer isn't the newest one so if I try one more time...

Mission 4
Well I did what Papa Bear (whatever) said and went to the firing range. My soldier nro. 8
died two times and I don't know why. I was just told him to board on truck... There was M113
near so I think he run in front of M113, twice...

So my campaing was there, I hope I will never play your campaign anymore. I respect a piece
of s*** that if there is nice cameradrives and other not-important-stuff if the gameplay
sucks as bad as it did in this campaign. Thanks a lot. :(

You say that as if you have no choice in the matter...

Making a single mission is difficult enough, and making a campaign is moreso. A lot of effort goes into a member's work. By all means express your opinion, but at the very least make your input more constructive than saying it's "crap" and a "piece of shit". That way everyone learns.

Take a look through the Missions Depot beta boards to see how others manage to give positive advice about things they don't like.
