How exactly does the star system work?

also why is post counting disabled?

We found that post counting led to people making unneccessary posts.   When it was disabled (when we got a new forum in the Refit of the summer of 02) there was a marked improvement in the quality of the forum - far fewer rubbishy posts.

However, in not displaying post count there is a loss of information.   The star system is an attempt to remedy that with better information.

oh, Those actualy were 2 completely unrelated, seperate questions. But I guess that awnsers them nicely.
