I know there are several threads open discussing addons in the works of US special forces troops. We have Bibmi and STEELE working on one set of several groups (which is looking excellent, by the way), then there is Skaven, who I believe is working on Navy SEALs, and there is SelectThis, who says he will revisit his classic Ranger and Delta packs after version 2 of the 'Nam Pack is completed.
Why not combine the effort?
For example, instead of having two Army Ranger addons each of grade A quality, the editors can work together and produce a single one of A+ quality. Also, for several of these addons, it is necessary to have new weapons, like certain versions of the M4, for example. Again, if both addons are going to use a certain M4 variant, why build two separate ones from scratch?
It seems to be working for the 'Nam Pack, where a group of addon-makers coordinating with each other is creating an addon of incredible quality.
How about a group of editors pool their effort and create a single, solid-gold, US Special Forces Addon Pack?
I do not know, just an idea.

I would like to do this through Ballistic Addon Studios.
I would like to take the best of whats out there....contact the authors....ask if they are interested in having their work submitted to the Ballistic Addon Studios Special Forces pack.
My vision is create a pack with all relevant equipment units and vehicles.
The question is....what to include.
My personal opinion is these are minimum.
-BAS SOAR helos...LB and MH-60L, MH-47E
- STTs Rangers and Deltas
- Flipers M4 carbines
-STTs Kawasaki bike
What do we use for Seals, Combat Controllers, Special Forces and PJ's??? Any ideas...ofpeditor asked this before....but whats the "best of the best" of the reamining units. Any other weapons need including??
I wanna make this a reality but I'm gonna need help from the community. Perhasp ofpeditor would like to take this on as his own BAS project as well as being our prime beta tester ;-)
-
Right on!!!
You might also think of including the HK Mod weapons and units in progress, the IGW wetsuit, the Zodiak pack, the Ghillie Snipers, Tales Of War M-14's/M-21/FAV's, and the BAS (TJP?) SSN w/ drydock shelter.
Well...? Whacha waiting for? Get cracking boys...!
-
to BAS:
let's say you contact the authors and all agree. will you delay the release of your choppers so that they would be included in this "pack" or would you release them as planned and include them in later when such a pack is finnished?
i only have so much foam in my mouth, to wait longer would be unthink....(Duff collapses, the floor gives him a light tap on the forehead)
-
Dont worry Duff, this pack will not delay the release of the BAS helo's
The LB and the MH-60L should be out this weekend, so you can wipe your mouth dry, but keep the wipes close to hand ;)
The helo's will be re-released in the pack, which means that there will be improvements, and special little bonuses for the people who bother to download it.
Hopefully the packs:
Marines and
Spec Ops
Will be the definitive packs for tese types of troops, this will mean that most editors will hopefully base their missions around these packs, which will reduce the addon conflicts when playing MP.
cheers

*picks Duff up from the floor*
The wait will be over soon my friend.....very soooon. ;)
-
BoOyAh!
That sounds mighty fine indeed!
*Tips his hat and rides into the sunset*
-
Yeah, it would be really great to have only one (very, very good) US-Specialforces-Pack, because then people won't have to download 8-10 different Addons to play one Mission...
Really good idea!
Would be fine if the BAS-Team, Fliper, the LoBo-Guys and the people from the SEB-Packs could work together.
NeRo.
-
Bimbi's Special forces (DELTA and ranger troops) will be better than STT's versions, it would be better to use those.
-
I don't know if my soldiers are usefull, but if you guys need them, well my boys are yours, also between possible if you need my help, well just tell me what I can do ;)

Tigershark:
In reply to the second question in your post... What might be done is this... all the modders that produce unit addons take a look at what the actual units in question are equipped with/wearing, and collaborate to produce the most realistic addon. There are many great addons out there already, though they must be brought up to standard and polished. You modders need to determine if you need to scrap your previous models and build new ones from scratch, ( More time consuming but better looking, IMHO. ) or simply make a few changes to the existing addons to get something out to the community quickly. Or something in between, as many existing models are fine for most of the operations these guys do, and some could be added for more spcialized roles. For instance, the USAF SPECOPS guys often would deploy with the aircrew helmet, Bibmi has PJ's equipped with this. Skaven already has great looking SEALs, but they could be equipped with the Delta caving helmet, and the aircrew helmet as well, they use all of these from time to time.
Many units in the US SPECOPS community dress and loadout with similar kit, as these forces are all a part of the US SOCOM. They maintain a certain degree of commonality in this respect so as to enable smoother operational capabiity when deployed as a joint services task force. That is, operating with other SPECOPS units.
Maybe what could be done is a generic style operator, with slight variations in kit. The uniforms would be common, ( BDU's in black, woodland, desert, and snow and/or urban, USAF style OD flightsuits, and black neoprene wetsuit, etc. ) as all these units wear them. The variations would be in helmet, ( Caving/hockey helmet's, boonie hat, balaclava, OD scarf/bandana/bandage wrap, aircrew helmet, and sometimes watchcap/ballcap. ) loadbearing gear, ( Commercially produced off-the-shelf rucksacks and vests, as well as miltay issue ALICE packs, etc. ) and weapons, ( US SOCOM forces mostly use the M-4/M203 SOPMOD these days, but some prefer foreign makes and models, while others use older tried and true weapons like the M-14, M1911 MEU .45, M-49 and Stoner machineguns.)
This is something that can only be accomplished if the modding community can put aside any ego/personalty issues, and learn to cooperate and communicate as a team. My suggestion is for all of you to get together and choose a team name/tag for the group, and a common private communcations forum. A group website could be set up as a showcase for the various addon projects, perhaps here in OFPEC. The various members vote/choose a leader, who in turn picks a second in charge. They then delegate projects to the other members who are most skilled in a particular area. This is how I would do it, and have seen done in many successful moding communities online. But the key is to work for the greater good of the game players, and resist the need for singular recognition. A kind of democratic socialism if you will.
Just my thoughts, and sorry for the long winded speech.
-
Tigershark, in terms of the operators for the pack, definitely contact Bibmi, just look at some of his work at his site here: http://www.angelfire.com/games4/bibspecops/
If BAS handles this project, I guess I can sleep easy then. ;D

The wait will be over soon my friend.....very soooon. ;)
Indeed, I have seen the exclusive info for your loyal BAS followers. ;D

Would be fine if the BAS-Team, Fliper, the LoBo-Guys and the people from the SEB-Packs could work together.
Fliper is on ballistics and although a lot of people are contributing to the SEB nam pack out of the three most active people (me/stt/ebud) me and selectthis are already in ballistics, so already the team youve asked for is already in existance as ballistics addon studios :)
-
Ferret -
I could not agree more. The majority of what would be needed for a US Special Forces Addon is already created. The matter at hand is what needs to be made, what needs to be polished, and what is fine as is.
Your idea was right along the lines of what I was thinking. All too often, I've DLed a Special Forces Unit Addon and in their own respect, they're great, but alongside any other addon, they are out of place. Finding that commonality is what I find to be the greatest issue at hand. Desert uniforms are not different shades of tan throughout the services, as you may find in different desert addons throughout this community, for example. There are certain things that need to be unique for the different units (ie helmets, LBVs, etc) to separate one from another, but that common ground of BDUs (Desert, Woodland, Black, Arctic) for example, needs to be there.

This is by far the most important thing. I don't think I could have said it any better, mate...

I'd be more than willing to lend a hand in the creation of this and help out with whatever information I can provide. I like the idea of having it as a BAS project, as a lot of what is going to be done will be based around the Special Operations Helo Pack. I'll begin one of my 'infamous reports' to outline what I feel we use in the field (not just from the ASAR POV, but from all branches, as I work with a lot of former SF men). What I come up with can help get the ball rolling in terms of progress, and all members of the OFP community are more than encouraged to share their two cents...We all have to work together to make this become a reality...
Cheers mates

w000t - sounds great - tigershark, matey, BAS will be the OFP power when it comes to addons - and cant wait for the littlebirds matey - hurry up will ya ;)

Hope it helps mate

Ok guys....we it looks like we have the ball rolling here.
Ofpeditor.....what I was looking for was a project manager for this....unfortunately all the helo projects at BAS are taking up my time. I need someone to co ordinate the various parties so that we start matching things up.
I would like to see for example, Flipers M4's matched with units...and if Fliper doesn't have the aiming sight (semi transparemnt) of ST's desert camo rifles then we should add that to Flipers guns.
I think we all share a common vision here....match up the best of everyones vehicles, equipment and character models to create the definitive special ops force.
What I need is someone who is committed, and has the time to:
1. Outline this plan to various addon makers who we decide have the right addons to contribute to this
2. decide which addons and which people should be involved and seek to involve them in the project
3. Make enthusiastic about it
4. Coordinate them and their efforts.
5. Champion the pack in the community.
The important thing is that we focus on something small to begin with.
For example...lets not try and create the entire US Special Fiorces to begin with.
Perhaps we concetrate on the SEALS, Ranger, Delta and Green Berets. Then we move onto USAF units. I'm not sure what the exact breakup should be but I think you get my drift...keep it small and focussed to save time and get the addon makers feeling like they have achieved something great and then we have a foundation for future release....a version 2 for example.
Believe me...I'm talking from experience here. BAS hasn't released anyhting because we have bitten off too much than we can chew....but I'm changing that.
IMPORTANT POINT HERE: We don't necessarily need to recruit the addon makers themselves. If we can get people who are comfortable with modifying others work that would be enough. However the Project Manager will need to confirm with the original author that modifying his addon is OK.
And of course....all the original authors get full credit for their contributions to the pack.....this aint about producing something for BAS. It's about BAS creating a brand name of quality....the individuals involved still get all the credit. Not BAS...we just get credit for bringing it all together.
I try not create egos at BAS.....just quality addons made by dedicated people......if we release an addon...and someone mods it with a realistic/accurate modificiation that it is proven and bug free....chances are we will ask them if we can add this to our original model with credit to him for the new mod. For us....it's about quality....and through that quality making the OFP experience even more pleasant.
I should stop ranting.
So...opfeditor....are you willing to be project manager for this?? Anyone else willing to take a stab at it if ofpeditor doesn't?
-
Hey Tigershark...
It's your show mate, but I'd go ahead with the USAF PJ's with the first pack, because- 1) They are already done by Bibmi, and
2) there have not been any other PJ's done for OFP as far as I know. They routinely deploy in support of the other SPECOPS units and will be found on the most intense operations. PJ's for OFP are waaaaaay overdue.
-
Sounds great! Don't forget Frandesen and his sleek Navy Seals! BTW whats a PJ. Private's Johnson? ;D (better not get banned for that :-X)
-
PJ stands for Para Rescue Jumper - he is the highly trained guy, that jumps out of the helo and drags the downed pilot(s) back to the helo.
He is trained in combat, including weaponry profiency, and is a highly trained medic too.
The PJ is allways equipped with enough kit to allow him to survive for 3/4 days should he get seperated from his helo by ground fire etc.
The PJ is allways acompanied by a CC - Combat Controller, who covers his back, and provides him with all the support (fire and kit) that he [the PJ] needs.
-
Right. What DeadMeatXM2 said.... mostly. They are a little more flexable than that though. They don't always deploy from a helo... As DeadMeat said they are Para Rescue Jumpers, and really what that means is they are Rescue Specialists. The AF trains these guys to rescue anyone, anywhere, anytime. That includes from the tops of Everest/K2, the depths of the ocean, the most inhospitable extreme terrain, deserts, jungle, glacier, and all of this while under intense enemy fire, even hand to hand. They also deploy via all forms of parchute insertion, scuba, submarine, overland by motocycle, bicycle, FAV's, on foot, etc. They do often deploy with Combat Control Technicians, as DeadMeat said, but are actually self sufficient and can defend themselves and their patients in a firefight. CCT's usually have their own missions to attend to, and are incredible in their own right.
The highest trained, most elite units of the US SOCOM depend on PJ's all the time. Even Delta, and DEVGRU, who have their own medics will utilize PJ's during hostage rescue situations, allowing their own medics to focus on team members.
One thing they are known for strangely enough is possessing a quick wit, and a great sense of humor... I've known a few and they'll go all out to get a laugh. Total jokers. When I was a paramedic we learned to do the same thing, laughing helps people cope with tragedy. I guess that's something that comes natural to someone that makes a living pulling the good guys out of the worst of the worst, try not to dwell on the death and destruction, and get the job done.
-
hooohaaaa...
now this sounds good. Tigersjark, im all with what you have said, and i agree about BAS - i was thinking you had taken up too much - gues you were excited and wanted to make all those choppers :P
this sounds great - STT makes the best units and Fliper's M4's would be ace with the rangers etc.
and yeah, ofpeditor - you would be the best for this matey - your knowledge could really co-ordinate this properly and make it very realistic.
-
i think that they should come in the order that the ballistics helicopters come in, so that they can coordinate a release so not only do people get the best rangers/delta force they also get the helicopters to use them for spec op missions, also are there any plans for the US marines special forces? im not sure if they have a special squadron or whatever but with the new UH-1N from ballistics it would form another of these 'heli and attack team' packs, so things like the PJ's would come with the MH-60G Jolly Greens, anyway its just an idea :)
-
I had originally posted this to the "Bibmi's Modernised Western Units" thread... but it seems as though it would be more appropriate here. These questions and suggestions went un-noticed, I thought. So once more for your reading pleasure, and the benefit of my new-found OFP mission, here it is:
"I was wondering... could you give us some info as to how the special ability's/attributes for the various units is being implemented? For instance, the PJ should be able to heal of course... Delta operators should have increased skill levels, accuracy, etc. Rangers should have greatly increased armor, though I don't know if there is a way to model body armor...?
Black Baron's T-800 mod has increased armor, but I think he modeled the unit from a tank or something, maybe we should ask him? Army and Navy SPECOPS units should have higher camoflage capability, and so forth...
And for regular troops, do you think you could make them representitive of the various era's of technology? For instance, troops since the 'Ninties started carrying the M-4, Barreta sidearm, PASGT armor, goggles, kneepads, etc.
The next era would be Landwarrior, with an M-4/M203 and that massive IIR/LLTV scope... combined armor/LBE, kneepads/elbow pads, SOCOM pistol, etc. See here for info and pic's: http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/land-warrior.htm
And the icing on the cake could be the Objective Force Warrior, which looks like a green Stormtrooper from Star Wars with the OICW, PDW sidearm, and so on. You can see what the prototype system looks like here: http://www.defenselink.mil/news/May2002/n05242002_200205248.html
and better pic is here: http://www.janes.com/regional_news/americas/news/jdw/jdw020610_1_n.shtml"
-
In my little Marines addon, all my marines did something special. The Demo guy could plant and defuse mines and bombs, as well as have improved armor and a face plate (for shrapnel - its actually on the model). The Engineer can repair vehicles, and plant and remove mines. He can even build some stuff. Medic heals, Radioman (obviously) operates the radio and Officer leads them. Snipers snipe, gille snipers hide, recon scouts and ive also got all manner of new pilots, crews and dress uniforms for looks.
That Parachute Jumper sounds cool! And with the armor improvment thing, you code that in the .cpp
You can include the Australian SAS if you want, i give you permission :)
-
evis - great idea there
so as far as i gather, you would see that BAS release the Littebird + Delta, Pavehawks + MH60 with Rangers and then the MH53 with Marines of some sort?
thats a great pack... cos what i generally hate is having a great chopper but having to wait to get the units for it.
thats a good idea - although i think some people are anxious to get their grubby hands on the littlebird (as am I ;) ) and may not want to wait for the units.
-

Not a problem. The chopper can be released, and feedback from the community may help the team improve it, so when the other units are complete, they can release a combined addon, with an updated version of the chopper and the troops. Further feedback will lead to an update to the entire pack.
Besides, has anyone contacted Bibmi yet? He is very far along with most of his addons, and they all look great.
-

Yeah, I'm currently making the MH-53E and also the original CH-53E for BAS. a J model would be a good idea, but will mean more work and time.
-
yes but scorpio you dont have a model you are legally allowed to use, and you cant actually model yourself, so how are you going to do it?
-
Hello All -
Here I go on one of my soapbox speeches once again.
Evis - I personally like the idea of the "Helo & Forces" packs. To be honest, I somewhat question the possibility of being able to coordinate such a large project into a reality; however, breaking it into sections or "releases" like that is not only feasible, but ideal. It allows the current addon makers to work on specific sections and all work together, instead of spreading the talent over an extremely large project all at once. Tiger, you sounded like you supported "starting small," and I think Evis's idea may have been the answer. Now it's a matter of what units get paired with what birds (read #2 below for how this could be done?).
Tigershark - In reference to the project manager & to the specific tasks you outlined:
1. I can outline the plan for each addon maker (the questions stands, who is doing what?)
2. Messiah made a comment that he feels I ought to be the one to donate my knowledge to help create a realistic pack. I think I can do this; HOWEVER, I feel that to better the differing opinions, ideas, and views of the OFP community, there ought to be a deliberations between a few people (addon makers involved??) to come to an agreement on what will be included. That way we can hopefully not exclude or forget anything that may make the "US SF Addon" that much better.
3 & 4 & 5. Definitely possible. I'll rally the troops, mate.
I do have one concern - Those who know my line of work may know that I go into occasional 2 week absences as I cannot concentrate on OFP when my mind needs to be elsewhere. It's part of what I do, and I cannot change it. With this in mind, the possibility of having the pack suffer at this expense may outweigh my abilities to coordinate this project. However, no matter what, I can promise to work hard for the project, and of course, get a few bonus reports written up as 'Community Eye Candy.'
So the question is returned to you, Tiger - knowing my work and also knowing my commitments to OFP and to my career, do you feel comfortable handing this to me?
Cheers mates
ofpeditor
-
ofpeditor - i suggested you should do it because of your knowledge - but what about this, why not have 2 people on the job - we have you as expert kinda guy who can ensure realism throughout the pack, and so can chose the addon makers accordingly, and then a sidekick who can help you contact and arrange the authors - in this way we have the realism and also you dont have to worry about going off suddenly...
oh, and great to see that the LB's should be released by sunday - although tigershark mate, i reckon you should wait till they are perfect - dont release because of public pressure mate - i know you love having everything perfect ;)
-
well as a small guess, this is what i can think of so far:
Littlebirds and Delta Force Operatives and 160th SOAR
MH-60L and Rangers
UH-1N and Marine Force Recon and Marine Corp Pilots
MH-60G Jolly Green with ParaJumpers
MH-47E with ? ? ?
MH-60K with ? ? ?
(insert ? ? ?'s with whatever leftover units fit the best)
-
i say all the MH-60's should go in the same pack with the rangers and the parajumpers.
MH-47 should be marines as well i reckon
-
well....that would make the pack take a very long time, as i had it a pack would get released every few weeks, and the marines use the CH-46 Sea Knight and CH-53 as their 'chinook', i didnt include the CH-46 in the list because its not very 'spec op-py'
-
hmm, i see your point
well, i rather the pack be quick than slow - maybe ofpeditor could shed some light on what units he thinks should go with the choppers.
-
for anyone unsure of what bibmi is working on, there are screenshots here: http://www.angelfire.com/games4/bibspecops/page2.html (http://www.angelfire.com/games4/bibspecops/page2.html)
so we have (just from bibmi):
Delta Force
Rangers
Parajumpers
Navy Seals
Marines
Devgru
Green Berets
i think the seals would probably suit the MH-47E/MH-60K and whatever helo is left can have the Green Berets, what do you think? although we will have to talk to bibmi
-
Any room for Bibmi's modernized "regular" infantry?
-
My Input:
MH6/AH6 LB - Delta Force & SOAR Pilots
MH60K/L - Rangers (K or L possible for release w/ Green Berets as these two variants are US Army SF operated) & SOAR pilots
UH1N - Marine Force Recon & Marine Pilots
MH60G Jolly Green - PJs
MH47E - Green Berets (a colleague of mine agrees)
HH60H SeaHawk & MH53E PaveLow (Are we undertaking these? It wouldnt take much to do, since the SeaHawk is the same model) - Navy SEALs
Anything I missed? Comments?
Cheers mates

Of course, of course, and no need for sorries, I am sure Bibmi will finish them up either way.
Your list looks great to me (although, I have next to zero knowledge about the armed forces, so do not count on me for anything to do with realism).
A helicopter-special forces group combo for each should work out well, so long as either part holds up the other for too long.
Just in case any of you do not know, Bibmi is done with most of his groups, except the SEAL team and regular infantry (although that is not a concern). According to him, all that is left is the coding. He has also created some customized M4s, which still need to be coded, although he admits modeling weapons is not his thing (that is where the working as a team pays off, by the way).
Anyway, I am sure contacting him directly will make the situation crystal clear, we just have to wait for him to show up.
-
On a technical note, my suggestion would be a new vehicle class for the soldiers.
West > BAS Special Forces
Each pack would just add more units to the list. Each addon simply adds the new units to this list. That way, you may name the troops "Ranger" or "SEAL", not "BAS Ranger" or "BAS SEAL". Another suggestion would be to keep the names of differnet kits as "SEAL Sniper" and "SEAL AT" with the name of their group first. With all the addons, the list may get a little long, but easy to navigate with the alphabetizing.
As for the helicopters, I am not sure. Perhaps a new class "West > BAS Helicopters" for the same reasons, or put the choppers in with the Special Forces class, or just put them in the Air class with a BAS tag.
It would be good to outline (ofpeditor, you would be the man for this one) what roles each group would have members fulfilling. For example, should there be a sniper for the Delta group or not? Should there be an "officer" for each of the groups? Which roles require unique models? (Bibmi, for example, has a special Ranger model with the goggles on for the machinegunner.) What weapons would each role need, which also asks what weapons must be created? Perhaps a new portable anti-tank weapon would be good to have. Certainly do not confine yourselves to the weapons already in OFP.
Example outline: (NOT EVEN CLOSE TO ACCURATE)
Rangers:
- US Ranger (default)
Model: Default Ranger
Weapons: M16, grenades.
Special: Increased Armor
- US Ranger Leader
Model: Ranger Leader (has smoke grenade on vest)
Weapons: M16, binoculars...
Special: Increased Armor, Officer symbol
- US Ranger AT
Model: Default Ranger
Weapons: ....
Special: ....
- US Ranger Sniper
Model: Sniper Model (wears ghillie suit)
Weapons: New sniper rifle of some sort
Special: Increased Camoflague, Sniper symbol.
You get the idea...
-
Any H-60 modification can be made, in a week or so BAS will have a brand new H-60L model to work with (as the demo and ingame models just dont cut the mustard any more),(all the time working on the UH-1N and AH-1W they shouldnt take long to get released), so then the whole team is going to pull together and get the model textured then there will be a brand new UH-60L so there may be room for new infantry after all...then the team will split up into different sections again and start on H-60 modifications (first MH-60L/K then MH-60G) so any modifications on the blackhawk model you would like for this pack, start requesting now as the sooner we know what is wanted the sooner we can start planning :)
[edit: ive just read that the PJ's use the HH-60G, ofpeditor you can probably answer this the best, are there enough changes between HH-60G's and MH-60G's to warrant a change in the model? even if its changes in the equipment in the cabin]
-
A suggestion..how bout you guys team up with the LB guys if our interested in having spec ops guys with your helo's I think the LB team has proved they know how to make truely amazing addon units with their pask HK pack and they are already workin on a Spec Op units pack so why not just team up and work with them? Oh and another question ...who is ofpeditor? is he former military or something cause I see alot of referrals to him as "in the know" when it comes to special operations...I only ask because I know former operators and I know how much they HATE people claiming to be something their not....I'm not challenging him cause he might be legit It just strikes me as odd....my 2 cents. If you guys want REAL info on how to make your units "look" better for this GAME...you might wanna try sites like www.specialoperations.com ... that site has been established as a site where REAL current and formers operators shoot the shit...and has alot of info on TF160 and any other units your interested in modeling in the game. just don't go asking "how can I make my GAME addon more realistic?" that'll get you a quick flame and laugh...my 2 cents....

Mate, to fill you in about myself:
I live here in the US and work for a Domestic & Abroad HR firm...I'm not 'Special Operations' as you may classify them as members of a branch of the services here in the states; however, I work in Airborne Search and Rescue. I spent time in co-op training in England with Her Majesty's Special Air Services in Rescue and Retrieval for 6 months and through services and training provided by our firm. If you've seen the movie 'Proof of Life,' the operational side of the film is a glorified example of the type of work I do. Nearly all my colleagues are former Service members, domestic and abroad, and some are former Special Operations troops.
If you have any questions, comments, etc, feel free to drop me a PM.
Cheers mate

As for teaming up with lost brothers mod, this will have to be discussed between all the team members, and a decision will have to be unanamous, so await further info on that, although it may (and probably will) not happen.

I agree with you completely, mate...My knowledge of Special Operations is limited to the work I do and what I train and am in contact with. Using sites like www.specialoperations.com as resources to confirm and gather information is what I hope most people do if they search for realism.

just don't go asking "how can I make my GAME addon more realistic?" that'll get you a quick flame and laugh...my 2 cents....
I couldn't say it any better mate...spending time on research is crucial.
Cheers

well i cant speak for the rest of ballistics but i spend at least 5-6 hours researchng what im about to model, not only for pictures of every minute detail but for information on who uses it, how fast it is, what its armed with, the fuel range, every tiny detail...so youll see a lot of realism from us :)

Thanks ofpeditor for responding.....I just wanted to get "out of the dark" of your background since everyone else seems to know about you. Anyway, keep up the good work..BTW..your job sounds kinda cool

*makes a child-like, whiny/pouty sound*
Sounds like itll take a while to come out. Until them im having to use German SFs - HK Pack is good, maybe you could use it for PSG-1 and MP5N, navy SEALs use those. DKM MOD have a Mossberg 500. And lastly, itd be cool if you made Navy SEALs, Navy SEAL Jumpers and NAVY SEAL divers. The divers could dive underwater (its possible, the Chain of Command are making a diver addon). You could, like have a new model for the Jumper and all that with parachute.

Just something that Ferret Fangs mentioned in regards to giving the special forces increased skills and accuracy.
This idea was mooted in the SEB Nam Pack 2.0 thread ( page 21 SelectThis http://www.ofpec.com/yabbse/index.php?board=14;action=display;threadid=61;start=300 )
but it was dismissed later on as impractical for that particular venture because any tweaks may have unbalanced other addons.
*However*, could it be incoporated into this pack? After all these are special forces units. Although the danger of unbalancing other addons would remain, at least with a special forces pack it could be seen as justified? Thoughts?
Normally in the editor ( I know nothing about config edits), I've tried to simulate such spec op missions by lowering the enemy skill slider to minimum and increasing friendly AI to maximum and still a small (5 squad Team ) gets wiped out when attacking just one enemy group ( I, as the player am just observing )
It's also noticable that the attacking squad ALWAYS seems to get killed while the defending team may lose one or two at the most. This is quite infuriating as you want a better ratio, after all these are spec ops and it adds to the excitement and drama of the mission if the firefight is somewhat prolonged.
The most definitive explanation and exploration of this that I have read so far, was by TheCaptain.

It would require some experimentation, but I think the end results would be worth it.
Regards to all those involved in this endeavour. :)

;DIt's so nice to be noticed ;D
So I guess there are two way's to tweak the gameplay for more realism, or two schools of thought...
On one hand you have Captains method of scripting and mission design, which seems to work fairly well, and is less complicated than most may think. It increases a units longevity, susceptability to damage from small arms fire, and modifies the AI fight or flight response.
On the other hand, you have the modellers approach... which is more like what I was suggesting, ( I am more of a model tweaker as opposed to scripter/mission maker) was special attributes in the unit's design. For instance, the lines such as attendent=true, for the medic's ability to heal, camoflage=0.50000 for a truly well camoflaged ghillie sniper, sensitivity=2 which increases I don't really know what, but I think it's the units ability to spot enemies.
BTW I looked at Black Baron's T-800 addon, and saw that he had these values in the config:
armor=60;
armorStructural=17.500000;
armorHead=14.700000;
armorBody=14.800000;
armorHands=18.500000;
armorLegs=18.500000;
This is how he achieves the Terminator's armor. I guess this could be applied to any other unit to simulate modern body armor and helmets... I suppose the nomal values would be much lower for an Interceptor vest.
So which method is better? Modeller, or Scripter... I think maybe a combination of both should be used to achieve optimal realism. Anyway things seem to have slowed down dramatically on this thread... I hope we can maintain momentum and get some units out to the people, soon. I'm going to continue experimenting with this stuff and post my results.

So gents...it looks like OFPEDITOR has stepped up the plate to act as "co-manager".
Problem is...we don't have his "co"
Anyone else willing to pull all this all together with ofpeditor?
