anyone know the layout of the islands in relation to each other?
from hints gathered from the campaigns, i know that everon is the easternmost island of the group, and that kolgujev is north-ish of everon, but does anyone know of a definitive map-type thing, including malden and nogova?
and a related question: which is it - nogovo or nogova? both names have been used...
-
It was originally Nogovo, but it was changed to Nogova just before release. I think even the manual says Nogovo.
I'm not sure, but I have a feeling there is no known relationship between Nogova and the others. Although you could dig into the config and find the latitude and longitude and see if they are different.
Somebody did make a giant map with several of the islands on it, but I don't know if the relationship is correct. There is a mention at the start of CWC that Everon is "the eastermost island in this group", IIRC. And you take off from somewhere to fly to Kolugujev which is to the northeast.
-
After playing the CWC campaign the first time I guessed it's somekind of a triangle. Malden in the lower left corner, Kolguyev upper corner (NE of Malden) and Everon in the lower right corner.
Malden should be closer to Everon than Kolguyev and not "behind" Kolguyev, as the US were so frightened about the unknown occupation.
EDIT: Nogova should be E of Malden, as the US weapons arrived on the western coast. Maybe NE, based on the approach of the US forces in the Outro.
This would mean Everon and Nogova are sharing the same location or Nogova is the central island. So why wasn't Nogova mentioned in the CWC conflict? ;)
-
I always thought Nogova was an outlying island in the chain, and that it was quite a ways away from the other three. I don't know why, but I always thought of Nogova being south to south-east from the other three...but that is probably just me. ::)

well, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, after some research and some creative thinking, i have come up with the following map. it is not definitive, it is simply a relative guide to the islands according to hints given in the stories and guesswork.

comments welcome ;)

There should be an X showing where the treasure is buried.

He he he, look, look, look, a sence for a humor.
Niiice, but I don't think Nogova and Desert Island fits in this archipelago. And I've always had a feeling, that Everon lays exsactly betwen Malded and Kolgujev.

"surprise" objStatus "hidden"

i would rotate it a few degrees anti clockwise and then move Nogova to the right a bit thats how i always thought if it even thouhg i never did but when i saw this post thats how i thought of it

Imo, Kolgo is more to the right a bit and above Malden.
Here's how I see the location:
In the intro to the first combat mission in CWC, you see Hinds/Mi17s come from the northeast; this suggests Kolgo is above Malden, because the flightpath of the Blackhawks is from the south-east-east.
Furthermore, on the "Planes Start" mission, you leave the map in a northeast direction; however, when you show up on Kolgo you're at the bottom of the map, near the center; suggesting a North-East relation to Malden.

should Desert Island be on there, considering that its the training island beside Malden?
-
it is bottom left

Agreed, desert island isn't a real part of the fictional island chain, its just that island on Malden where the NATO base is. And if you read the Resistance manual, it says nogova is not part of the Malden island group and is further away.
-
hmmm, i'm not seeing that about nogova in my version... :-\ d'you have a quote?
the only reason i put the desert island on there is that it's a default island everyone has and can easily be incorporated into the others. i put it southwest of nogova because the airfield there is desert and if it's in the south of the island group, it's hotter, etc...
in any case, like i say, a rough guide only. i'm not even sure it's to scale :P
from BIS
"living a peacefull civilian life on the island of Nogova, a short distance from the original game's three islands..."
and
"Nogovo is located a short distance from the Malden Islands..."
seen here (http://www.bistudio.com/resistance/history.html).
-
That does imply a slightly greater separation between Nogova and the rest, since it suggests that the original 3 are a group. But there is no point in putting them miles apart - as long as they are "over the horizon" that's good enough.
IMHO the only sensible place for Desert Island is where you've put it, SW of Nogova. (Since it is the same shape as the training island, which I called Kassalon, it should be as far away from there as possible.)
-
this is an odd one. i've been replaying the cwc campaign. i have this
(http://www.tumeric.co.uk/mrb/flashpoint/planes_start.jpg)
and have just finished the first mission flying NorthEast away from Malden, supposedly towards Kolgujev.
the next mission has us approaching Kolgujev from the NorthEast, at the top-right of the map. so we flew past the island and returned?
either way, the approximates are there. it's all good. :)

I thought St. Louis was on Everon?
And read what the briefing says...
Head north east of Everon over the sea
yet the marker says Malden... ??? ???
-
Everon = Saint Pierre & Saint Phillippe
Malden = Saint Louis & Sainte Marie
i suspect the original campaigns suffer from typos as much as any user-made mission. consider nogovo and nogova. both spellings are used in the same BIS website (http://www.bistudio.com/resistance/intro.html)...

Eh, too many bloody saints as these pagen's gods ;D
-
it is bottom left
i realize its on the bottom left. i'm suggesting that it shouldn't be. as it is the small training island off of Malden without any objects or grass textures, i'm meaning to say that it is effectively on the map twice.
-
Don't get me wrong but...
Couldn't you just try to measure latitude and longitude on the various islands to set up relative map positions ? At least you should get the latitude right.
;D
