Hmm, I don't think that this is under your usual faq's. I need to create a .sqs file but I don't know if its something I'm doing wrong or if my computer is messed up. I read through a tutorial and went by the word and created a notepad file and entered in a simple script to make two units look at each other. The tutorial said that I enter the text and save the file as "dowatch.sqs" and save it under "all files" and i saved it but instead of it creating a windows file its just a notepad file. I go into the game anyway and it just says that the .sqs file cannot be found .... but I did everything the tutorial told me to do. Does the file look like a windows file after you save it and put it into the mission folder? I don't know if the computer is saving the thing wrong or what. I need help and once you guys help me then I should be conent ..... should be. Cheers.

Get the Tutorial Mission from the Editors Depot. It shows you how everything should look. Copy and paste one of the .sqs files from it into your mission, then copy and paste into it your code.
Oh, and
Welcome to the forum!

ok cheers man, I will do that and see what happens. Thanx again.

I bet you have file extensions hidden in your Windows settings. So really, the file is named "script.sqs.txt", but the .txt part is just hidden from you. You need to either unhide file extensions (in the "folder options"), or else select "save as type: all files" when you save the file in notepad.

Yep, I had exactly the same problem when I first started making files - thought I was cursed or something, but its not anything your doing wrong after all...

I'm not sure what you mean Barron, erm i mean General Barron sir, I am saving the notepad under "all files" but still it saves as a notepad file. I just need to know if thats normally like that and when you export the mission, then the notepad file turns into a windows file. I just want to know why the mission keeps starting up with "unable to find "dowatch.sqs" even though I did everything the tutorial says. Grrr if a man harnessed the power of the pc and injected it with the simplicity of playstation .... then the world would be a happier place. :'(

sqs files look exactly like txt files, except that they end in sqs
do this:
open up notepad and copy your code into that file, the click file/save as..
set to all files and save as dowatch.sqs
if you right-clicked and hit new notepad file it may have kept the txt extension, if that isn't what you did, then just try waht i said anyway and see what happens lol ::)

Its all fixed, turns out that the file extensions where wrong. I went into the folder options and unticked the hide extensions. Turns out the file was dowatch.sqs.sqs ..... slight variation on dowatch.sqs. So I fiddled and managed to edit an existing tutorial example from ofpec and made a simple camera movements and targeting so thanx again all for you help!
