Title: Follow the Road...
Post by: angusjm on 10 Oct 2002, 20:30:22
I can't get a convoy of trucks and BMPs to follow the road.....

Any Suggestions?

Yes, one suggestion. Two really.

First, the must be in safe mode.

Second, set their formation to column.

That may work

Formation = Staggered Column

Tried with safe mode - no effect

Well.. the thing here is that less waypoints are more ...

put em in safe mode, column, like Seanver said... but keep your waypoints to a minimum....   you should really only need to place one waypoint at the truck's destination and the AI will follow the road to that destination all by their selves.

Give it a test run... and you'll see what I mean ;D

It's gotta be pure column I think.

Another thing is they will organise themselves into order of rank - highest first, lowest at the back.    If the initial placement is not consistent with this they can get themselves tied up  in knots.   Make sure they are in what you think is the right order and give them space to maneouvre.    You can always tighten it up if you need to later.

A road vehicle (truck or uaz) rather than a bmp at the front may also help, just a thought.

another thing ive noticed is if anything is on the road "or even close too it" IE. A gate,fence whatever. between point "a" and "b" it seems to discombobulate the column.as well as if u start em on the road itself seems to make them not follow road right,and if waypoint at the end is on the road it seems to mess up columns,at least thats my experience.

That's simply wrong. They will order themselves by group position. #1 first, #2 second and #12 last. If #12 is a colonel and #1 a prvate, #12 will still be last.
