Title: Weapon Design
Post by: Coldfire on 08 May 2005, 18:25:26
Since it seems to be a popular Idea right now, I'm starting a thread where people can post thier own custom weapon designs that they'd like to see a addon-maker adopt.

For example, my custom assault rifle designs (pictures at the bottom of the page):

M-70 assault rifle stats:
7.62mm NATO
Semi-auto or three-round burst firing options.
Recoil-absorbant buttstock.
Detachable carrying handle.

M-7C Carbine stats:
Cut-down version of the M-70.
6.8mm
Semi- or Fully-automatic firing options.
Recoil-absorbant buttstock.
Modular design, allowing easy field modifications.

Hope this thread doesn't get me in trouble with the moderators  ;)

Well my Assault Rifle is a Toploader like the P90 , it has an 30 round clip 5.56mm Nato ammunition. Looks a bit like the Halo Rifle. The magazine would eject after it is empty like in the M1 Garand , but it can be changed without it is empty too.

It has an Targetcam which send the dates to the aim system to make the Soldier the targeting easier.

Nice, the P90 is a beautiful weapon!

Edit: Oh, yea, and mine.... I was into the whole modular design when I made it...

US-Marine: I like your Idea of a top-loader, I have a few suggestions about design though:

1) A top loader would work better with case-less ammo... it makes it easier to deal with spent casings.

2) I'd have it be a to-feeding weapon; I.E. you put a clip in through the top of the gun and the clip falls out the bottom when your done with it.

I definatly like how you integrated a camera system into your weapon... they should have had that in Halo ;). I hope you don't mind but I modified your design a bit.

Another thing: I added a varient of the CAM system shown above and added it to the M70, enjoy ;)

nice weapons :) well the Halo Rifle has a flashlight and Ammocounter instead of a targetcam , i have tried to cross my favorite weapons , the M1 Garand , P90 and Halo Rifle ;)

But as far as i know has the P90 30rounds too ;)

These are all good, but the tend to dwell on the SMGs and Assault Rifles.

Here is the GS M421A LMG.

It would be pretty cool if all of this got put into a Futuristic Soldiers addon or something.

Here is the GS M101 Assault Shotgun

12 Guage
10 round clip.

High power over short range. (As with all shotguns)  ;D

Seeing as how I had nothing to do, I started on the M-7C :

:)
I could do with someone to texture it when done, I'm.. not the best at that :P

In Buldozer

Edited up (http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y167/DBR_ONIX/M-7C_Showoff.jpg)

I suppose I'll have a go at texturing it tomorrow, if I fail, I'll post up the model for someone else to texture :P

Great work!

A few points/suggestions:

1) the little grooves along the side of the weapon don't g all the way through, they're clips for under-barrel attacments (such as a grenade launcher)

2) The forward sights need to be completed (right now you have it as a simple block above the barrel)

Again, excelent work :D

Also, i did a few pictures of different angles. I have a front view and a down-the-sights view done, as well as a colored side-view

Made the front-scope thing more detailed, and is inline with the dot-scope

Brattacus has agreed to try and texture it, I'll post when he's done (When, not if >:( :P)

Awsome work! Thanks a bunch for the effort :D

Now we just need a config... unfourtunatly I'm still just learning how to make a config but I could give it a shot if necassary. Still, I'd rather somone more experienced do it.

Alas, I have discoved I am WAY over my head in trying to write a config for the M-7C:beat:... if we want to actually finish this weapon this year then somone else will have to do the config work, sorry :(

About the P-90, 50 rounds go in one magazine. At least the last time I fired it ;).

The M-7 Carbine model (http://www.dbrweb.co.uk/hosted/M-7C.zip)
Has weird scope I got bored and made (Found a optics tutorial and wanted to try), no config or textures though :(

I'll be happy to write some scripts if needed, but I dont really have time to model anything more

We should make a MOD, something like "Nogova 2035". we could make some vehicles, units, and guns. anyways here is another gun, the M-12 Modular Assualt Rifle. there are more versions to come(Grenadlaunchers and such).
Title: Re:Weapon Design
Post by: Dragon16 on 30 Jun 2005, 18:09:31
Well Gentlemen my skills are at your command. Just say and i can begin modelling, texturing(what im beat at) or scripting.

Post by: repta on 30 Jun 2005, 18:44:08
Great! i cant do hardly anything, except design weapons and vehicles( i can come up with ideas for units, but i cant draw them).we should make a island too, Nogova 2035 with new buildings and such. i have a new version of the M-12, the M12GL.
Title: Re:Weapon Design
Post by: Coldfire on 30 Jun 2005, 23:14:59
Well I've been a bit busy since this thread got started as well. If you want to I have another carbine design here...

Introducing the M-85c, a small, specially designed weapon ment to take on lightly armored targets (I.E. infantry wearing body armor, jeeps, etc.) It fires a specially made 5.56x80mm hard-tipped round. Because the bullet is low-caliber but high-velocity, the weapons recoil is still managable (especially with the recoil-absorbant buttstock) while providing a decent punch and good accuracy over short-medium range.

Thanks for all the top of the line work already done, and all the offers to help make these weapons :) :D

me too, but ur lines look different than mine, ohh well.
Title: Re:Weapon Design
Post by: repta on 01 Jul 2005, 01:45:58
i have modified the m-70 just a bit. it is now a LMG. the mag is in the same place, it is just a box mag now( no belt though, it is fed through the top of the mag). It fires in 4rd controlled bursts only. i have the sounds for the m-70 and the m-12 done. they have a cool futuristic yet realistic sound. no reloads for them yet.
Title: Re:Weapon Design
Post by: Coldfire on 01 Jul 2005, 02:31:35
Kickass news about the sounds :D thanks a bunch.

Good Idea about the box mag, but if I were gonna make a LMG out of the M-70 I'd add a bipod and a heavier barrel, and make it fire full-auto. That way you can provide suppressing fire, and you wouldn't have to worry about the barrel over-heating as much. Recoil might be a problem, though.

As for the lines in MS paint.. there should be a little option in the sidebar when you select "Lines" that lets you change how thick they are. Also, if you hold down "shift" and drag a line it automatically makes it straight. Just a usefull little tip ;)

i have changed the m12 to have an integrated silencer. it now only fires single and 3 rd burst. we need to a place to move this forum

Title: Re:Weapon Design
Post by: Coldfire on 01 Jul 2005, 04:28:50
I drew a modified version to show how I'd change it... the basic design is the same, but I made it so that the clip is clser to the handle and slides in along the triggerguard.
Title: Re:Weapon Design
Post by: repta on 01 Jul 2005, 04:37:06
no offense or anything, but try gripping a gun like that. that would hurt. the CAM on urs looks a bit out of proportion. I do like your CAM view. Mine was kinda last minute. i do need to do something different with the stock.
Title: Re:Weapon Design
Post by: Coldfire on 01 Jul 2005, 04:44:30
lol, yah I know I kinda did the handle real quick and the CAM I just took from one of my other designs. But I think sliding the clip into part of the handleguard makes sense and would lower the whieght of the weapon.
Title: Re:Weapon Design
Post by: repta on 01 Jul 2005, 04:51:32
yea, i had another version that a drew on paper that had the mag sliding by the grip, it was really halo-ish. ill mess around with it. i now have the reloading sound for all weapons, and the firing sounds for the M-7, M-70, and the M-12s
Title: Re:Weapon Design
Post by: Coldfire on 01 Jul 2005, 04:55:35
cool, don't suppose you can send me the sound files?

btw, here's the fixed version of the modification I made to the M-12

A script for the M-12's scope t fail on certain conditions (also via script condition) would be very nice..
Title: Re:Weapon Design
Post by: repta on 01 Jul 2005, 16:54:24
your version is almost too big. the idea for the m12 is to be a weapon for special forces. the M-7 is the standard issue rifle, and the m70 is the new LMG. by the way, coldfire, i emailed you the sounds, u just need to unpbo them. I made some pistols too. they are .45 cal and have 13 round mags.
Title: Re:Weapon Design
Post by: Coldfire on 02 Jul 2005, 04:35:56
Great job on the sounds!  :o Definatly kickass.

All we need now is people to do scripting and such... something I'm amature at (at best).

Ok chaps and chapesses,

This sounds like it is turning into something other than an idea.

If you wish to do the recruiting thing, then please only in the Recruitment board.

Try and keep it confined to  Weapon Design.   8)

I dont think the CAM scope is very possible to make (It's possible, just very messy).
As for changing the scope, setobjecttexture isnt possible to use on optics (I have no idea how you'd go about getting the object name of the scope, and I seriously doubt you could, 1, get the object name, 2, setobjecttexture it)
I guess this falls under weapon design (It's directly relating to the design of the wepaons, anyway), if not, sorry  :-[

Well, I don't have a pic yet but...

The GPPR (General Purpose Precision Rifle)
20 rd 7.70 mm mag
single shot or fully-auto
20x max zoom on a computer projection, projects a little target leader in front of moving targets, can be replaced with non-computerised 20x zoom scope
can take AP rounds (for putting holes in APCs! look out drivers!)

I tend to go for accuracy, so if I used this rifle, I'd use single-shots. The barrel extends into the stock, with the mag locking into the bottom of the stock, so the weapon is easier to handle up close, but doesn't loose in any accuracy. It's not just a sniper, but a GI weapon as well. Not designed to be used as an mg though. Will post with pic asap

Imagine AI trying to snipe you at 500m with a full auto shotgun.
He's got more chance at hitting you if he threw his shoes at you  ;)

Maybe theres a way to make a script that only lets the AI fire if the enemy is closer a certain distance away from them  :P

you can change in the config file how far AI will engage targets....

ive started texturing my gun thing, but texview keeps messing up my textures >:(

Heres my addition to this gun-designing fest  ;)

The GN-1a 12.7mm Light Anti Material Rifle. Used for piercing light armour over distances of under 500m. Can also be used again infantry and emplaced enemies.
