Hello all!!!! ;D
I have BIG news about the little known command...
SWITCHCAMERA!!!!
I have had a few chats about this subject to some, and
there is excitment in the air. Well start smelling something
new and fresh. Now I remember a topic I was involved in a
while ago. We discussed how to get a camera to view the
inside of an m113. Well NOW I can finally tell you how.
I can get the camera to view all the positions you can
think of!!!
--Cargo position in vehicles and choppers!
--driver positions in  vehicles and choppers!
--gunner position in  vehicles and choppers!
--commander position in vehicles and choppers!
and the various views of these, as in "internal", "external", "gunner"
not sure about "group" though??
Ok well I think I have your attension in this matter, so
please be patience!! ;D And I will have an example mission
for this.

Ok you got our attention.  We are trying to be patient but it has been about 36 hours.  Please hury.  This is exceting news.

Got some interested people!! EXCELLENT!! ;D
Just to tell you all again. YES I can get the internal view
of  " EVERY " vehicle, chopper, unit. Hey how cool would
it be to be able to switch to the internal view of a gunner
in an m1a1 tank, then to be able to look through the scope
of the cannon!!! WELL I can do this as well. SO just doing some more testing and will have more for you soon!

Hey Everybody! ;D
Here's a bit of info for you! 8)
The switchcamera command basically switches your view
from being the player, to another unit or even to a vehicle.
So if you use unitname switchcamera "internal" for a unit,
then you will be in the 1st person view of that unit.
Best of all, create a tank(not empty!) name it m1a1 then;
set to combat mode!!
                                  then--
m1a1 switchcamera "internal"
Now you will be viewing from the 1st person view of the
commander of that vehicle(could be driver, gunner or commander!) And what will you see, you will be seeing the
inside of the tank in the commanders view! Now that means
finally you can create camera scipts that will show the inside
of a vehicle. I hope you find this exciting!! I do. ;D
Myself and LCD are at the moment looking, testing, thinking
and all that!! ;D to come up with all we need to do a tut
on this subject. So then all of you can have the info to do
some excitingly different camera cutscenes!
So have fun with the info I have given you, and believe you
me it gets a bit complicated.

How do we go about choosing the different places then?

"internal" would be pilot/driver/commander?
How to get gunner and cargo then?

Could it be done if I place an empty M1A1, move three guys in, and do guy1 switchCamera "internal", guy2 switchCamera "internal" and so on. Would that give me the view of the separate soldiers?

I have a pretty decent music video-esk cutscene going. I tried inputting the switchcamera into it, the best I can get is radio chatter from my helicopters but still no first person view.  this is where I put it:

_cam1 camsettarget helo2
helo2 SwitchCamera "internal"
_cam1 camcommit 10
~10


still no first person view though. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong... Any ideas? ???

Ok I have the answers and I am happy to tell you! ;D
                   To KTottE  8)
Ok? There are differences when creating empty and full
vehicles!!
Full vehicles-as in a driver, gunner and commander in vehicle  using      
vehiclename switchcamera "internal" will switch the view to
the vehicles commander view , then using "gunner", this will
show the (zoomed screen) as if you press "v" on your
keyboard! This screen is only available for tank crews, gunner
on m113, and mgchoppers. But you should know this.
then if you use "external", you will view from the outside
of the vehicle!
SO! :P  Empty vehicles!
place one unit in a tank(driver)
                        use  
vehiclename switchcamera "internal", you will see the view
in the drivers position! Now move a unit into the gunners
position, now it will default to the gunners position! Now
move a unit to the commanders position, and it will now
default to the commanders view!
OK you can only get the cargo position view if the vehicle has
no crew in, at the time. The switchcamera will always
default to commanders view of "that" vehicle.
Now you must be wondering, well this is"$#*&" So you think
there are too many limitation!!
DON'T DISPARE
You can get around this by using the player unit!!
That's right, the game seems to give the player unit the
rank of a 5star general.
But remember the most important thing!! switch to the
internal view of that unit before you move that unit into
position!

You better believe it!! ;D
Well I have  been doing just this! Using switchcamera command in cutscenes!!
OK!! I will tell you my secrets! ;D ;D
One thing to remember is  switchcamera is similar to useing
the create "camera" both are types of cameras.
And this means you can only use one at a time!!
But thats cool ;D With some clever scripting, black out/black in and creating the _cam more that once, and destroying it
then you can do this!! ;D
Create the _cam as usual. Do all the movements you need,
then before you use the switchcamera command, destroy the
_cam you made, use the switchcamera command, and
then create the _cam again. You need to do this for every
switchcamera position you want!

BTY I'll give you a bit of info on using switchcamera on units
As you know "internal" is 1st preson, "gunner" is optics/scope
"external" is 3rd person and "group" is ??? not sure yet!!
So when you use switchcamera on units then!!
switch to an AI unit, a1 switchcamera "internal"
You are now seeing from this AI unit.
now to get to "gunner" view with an AI you need to have the
AI unit target an enemy! then go to "gunner" mode and
you will see the unit aiming with his gun. And in the same
way you can NOW get to see through the scope of a sniper
rifle. Now I can tell you this looks COOL!!!! :o 8)
And this mode is favorite with LCD, which is helping me with
testing and working out the switchcamera secrets!! ;)

Vektor, didn't you have something like this that allowed you to see inside and outside units in the spectator dialog?  ::)

There you'll see the switchcamera in action, just use the dropdown menu to switch between different cameras.

 Atten. lilmat!!

:o WOW :o that works GREAT!!! the only prob I have now is that when I go to 1st person view I get all the radio chatter. (Understandable) but when I go back to external cutscene the radios stay on. Like I said... its a music video, and the radio is unwelcome. I know there was a thread on killing the radio but I forget.  :-[   Little help please ::)

Is it possible to call this up in a script for a cutscene?

In my mission, I want a sniper scope to be shown ,along with some sounds, when this Russian sniper gets within 30 meters of the player and knows about the player.

(All right, I know how to get that conditional statement done) Can switchcamera be used in my script?

No probs Arctic do this, I just worked this out.
Remember switchcamera is also a camera! ;D So you can't
have two running at the same time.
When you are ready to switch to the sniper!, Do this

titlecut ["","BLACK in",1]
_cam cameraeffect ["terminate", "back"]
camdestroy _cam
sniper dotarget russian
~0.1
sniper switchcamera"internal"
~0.1
sniper switchcamera"gunner"
titlecut ["","BLACK in",1]

Now you will be seeing through the scope.
OH yea and make it so there is no player control
And I hvn't done this yet, but I think you can show the
cinema border as well.
Then when you want to go to the cutscene again, the
create the camera again.
And also it seems you lose some AI control, so when you
give orders sometimes you need to be switched to that
unit you will be manipulating!! 8)

Remember switchcamera is also a camera! ;D So you can't
have two running at the same time.

Bear in mind that I haven't had a muck around with this yet, but you can have more than one camera running around at the same time.

To change back to whatever camera you want to view through, use the cameraeffect line... eg.

camera cameraeffect ["internal","back"]

And the view on screen will be through that camera. Just note you don't have to change the camera effect, just redefine it ;)

terminate all cam orders before you use the swichcamera.
Now this is the info we need to know, so we can make a

you can have a look. You certainly have the experience

This is what it's all about, trying to get ALL the relevent
info together!

So there you go, seems to change a fews things! Now this
is not a bad thing, it just means we can hopefully have all
the info to put in a tut for the community!!
And thats the reason I looked into this. It gives more options
to people making missions.
This switchcamera command is certianly looking at being
the next big thing in editing.
