Title: Christmas Trees
Post by: macguba on 14 Mar 2005, 21:26:31
You know the jolly old Christmas Trees that BIS so kindly provided for our amusement?   Any way of getting them into a mission when it isn't Christams Day?   Without creating a custom island that is.

typeOf, which works fine in a hint format for other objects, is not returning anything for this one.    (Yes I know that will probably just give me the plain tree, but I thought I'd start there.)

Many thanks.

The christmas tree is another one of those objects that are not configured in the game config.bin.

It is entirely possible to write a small config.cpp which can then be pbo'ed and placed into your addons folder, in order to make it available in the editor.

The model file name for the tree is:

pa_sx.p3d

I think the problem here might be that at xmas time you didn't have your system time/date set correctly.
Flashpoint checks the System time/date and if it is near xmas it starts showing the xmas trees.

Not the date in the mission, but the date on your actual machine.

In fact if you temporarily change the date to xmas time, it will show the trees.

Ah, so it would be impossible without an addon?

Thanks for that Planck.   If I decide to proceed that way I'll be back asking for config help.   ;D

December 24th you need, on your computer.   Mission date doesn't matter.    Find them on Everon near the base SW of Levie, or on Kolgujev around the base NE of the The Hill.    And probably lots of other places too.

Change of plan.   I'm a-gonna go for it.   About time I learned something about configs anyway.

Where do I start?     I enjoy complete ignorance about .cpp files, configs, .p3d files and creating addons.

crack (de-pbo) a simple editor upgrade (coloured lights is a good example because its so simple) and use that as a template, with you level of experience it should be logical where you must change variables

no i dont think its that, (i used to do it all the time in the demo version), i might of added a texture upgrade but WHERE!!!!!!

where is the texture stored, someone please send BIS version

You should still have the xmas tree unless you have changed the contents of your Data.pbo and your Data3d.pbo.

You stupid boy .... you start the way you always start with something new in this game ... you read the tute by snYpir.

It seems to have worked.  I can only assume I have made two offsetting mistakes.

Thanks all!

Voila!  All thanks to you, snYpir, and General Barron, to whom I am indebted for the icon and his inestimable editor addon.

Edit:  I'll stick it up on addons beta testing and would be very grateful if somebody would take a look and hopefully find the two offsetting mistakes.....  ::)

I just meant that, given that it proved so straightforward, the only way to account for my success must be that I have made two mistakes in the config.cpp which, magically and impossible, cancel each other out to allow the thing to work.   Joke (failed).

I'll certainly look at it if you put it up for grabs.
