Do you know what would be amazing which im surprised no-one has actually made, a program which you can access in the editor where you can preview each addon, so like when your scrolling through the addons a small window at the side shows you a picture of it, that would make it so much easier, please make it!
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
that sounds pretty useless to me :-\
-
Maybe for new guys. But otherwise, I don't see the point. Most people know what a M1A1 looks like after playing the game, and for addons just open up desert island, place a unit, and press preview. :-[
But don't let my opinion shoot this one down in flames! Just because I don't think it could be that useful doesn't mean it won't be. ;)
Just speaking my opinion :tomato:
-
Would definitely be to much work for the few benefits.
-
i know one place where that would help....i have some addons where i dont know what they are due to the language they are named in.....
but it would be a lot of work just for that
-
OFP and O2 viewers not good? Try this: ODOL Explorer V2.44 and PBOManager with thumbnail views.

No real need for catalog browser programs if you try use PBOManager and ODOL programs.

If you don't know what they are, then TRY THEM ::)
-
lol i do try them.....but i have so many addons i forget what they are
-
Um... I find that hard to believe, and when you forget just place it and hit preview. There, thats just what you wanted just built in to the game allready. ;)
-
well ya dont ahve to believe me, but the stuff is in another language
and i do use the preview to figure out what it is
-
well shut up firstly, and secondly what's the F**king point of having to exit your mission every F**king time you want to see what some stupid add-on that some retard has named stupidly looks like, this laborious task could be simply, yes simply corrected by a simple preview window with a small picture. Eurgh really you piss me off, can you honestly tell me what the hell this add-on looks like "TREE artic large leafy1" without having to long windedly save your mission which may I add could be of any size, then load up the desert landscape put the add-on on and then reverse the process?!!??!!? Just because I'm not F**king dedicating my life to a game doesn't mean I have to suffer your retarded blows to "shoot this one down in flames!" piss off and die, thanks for nothing I hate you. Oh yeah and make me the add-on!!!!

Have you actually read any of these other f**king retarded ideas?!?!?!?
-
Ok, lets get this one into perspective.
In order to do what you want with your little 'thumbnail' previews, you would have to run an external program to generate said 'thumbnails' as there is no facility within OFP to do this.
Then you would need to find a way of accessing these 'thumbnails' from within the editor.
If you wanted the facility for OFP to actually do this sort of thing, you would have to re-write the game .exe file and that too much work for little gain, not to mention slightly illegal.
There is no way to run an external program from the mission editor, the only way to run external programs is to Alt-Tab out and run them.
Thats the way I see it, if anybody can think of a way of doing this in the editor whilst constructing a mission, be my quest and outline a method by which it could be done.

You don't have to exit your mission man, just place the addon in that current mission next to you, then hit preview, look at it, learn it, then go back to the editor, its really simple. A program to view it would also be pointless and make it even more work, since it would have to be external, causing you to minimize OFP completly, then your program would have to temporarily decompress the pbo (which isn't even possible while OFP is running, since the addon is in use), then open the models in something similar to bulldozer. All this would take much much longer than simply previewing it in the editor. This thread is pointless I don't see why its even worth arguing any more.

Erm....just for the record, I'm guessing a 'TREE arctic large leafy1' is a snow covered tree with leaves, possibly large ::)

Another thing Mikeyfish, you have a real bad attitude, this usualy causes people to lose respect for you, and demanding addon makers to do something doesn't help. I suggest you just stop before it gets even worse. You need to show others respect in order to be treated with respect.
-
eurgh theres not point trying anymore i might as well use the stanley knife like i planned all along, thanks for fueling my motive. For future reference dont reply to retards you just encourage their stupidity, and get a life. Not that i can really talk actually i have no life and no freinds but not that you care really. Yes i shall try and fight my dyspraxia obiously i cannot explain myself to your higher intelligence as much as i would like to, maybe if i spend more time explaining myself you can get the message, it is a good idea but i just cant explain all the details. Meh i'll learn to program and make my idea and then sell it for millions, highly unlikely really :-\

Mikeyfish, I suggest you simmer down!
