Title: Excellent tut for beginners
Post by: bigdave003 on 17 Feb 2005, 14:54:53
I'm a total noob when it comes to scripting, but found a really good tutorial in the editors depot, dcguide.zip - i recommend this to anyone new to scripting, it's really explained it well, but one problem - i cant find the author's name anywhere! so if anyone knows who wrote it, could you let me know their name!

Can't find anything in the Ed Depot that matches that description.   Can you post a link, or tell us where it is or indeed what it is called?

problem is, i cant remember the link i got it from! I'm sure i got it from here, but theres no authours name anywhere. Theres a tutorial on scripting with 4 handouts (example scripts), and then a similar tutoral on basic map editing, along with an example mission. The file is simply called dcguide.zip  ???

Wonder where I got it from?  It doesn't seem to exist online anymore.

It's odd because it seems to have been written to teach a group - NVQ Flashpoint Scripting anyone?.  OFPEC does get a big plug, though.

@ Macguba :

Although it's been released into the public domain, I don't know whether OFPEC's legal eagles would have a view on whether this valuable bit of history could be hosted here due to its doubtful parentage.  One of the tutes is credited to an Erik Nelson, but all the Word docs are by a variety of users at a certain company - they might need cleaning up before it's republished.

If you want a copy for consideration, I can email it to you if you IM me, or I can submit it to the Ed Depot if it's not going to upset anyone. It's only about 80Kb.

Submit it to the Editors Depot and then we can all see what's what.     Write a short blurb explaining the situation, what you remember about where you got and things like that.

Stuff in Pending has not been accepted by OFPEC - we only allow the public to see the pending items because its helpful for all concerned.

In cases like this we always try to contact the author if we can.   If not, we tend to accept it anyway - we would of course take it down if the author objected, but nobody ever has and its hard to imagine why somebody would.
