Ok, I know this has been brought up before but I just had a thought.
For those of you who have tried out the recent AirWolf addons, you know that there is a "turbo" function that accelerates the Airwolf helicopter forwards quickly, much faster than a regular helicopter can accelerate or normaly move...
So why not apply this to a V-22 Osprey? Have a "Switch flight mode" option that, when activated modles the Osprey's rotars tilting forward and accelerates the Osprey forward in a straight line...
Im not much of an addon maker, so if there are any big, obvious problems with doing this that I don't know about I apologize in advance.

The problem is for developing a reasonably realistic functioning V-22 Osprey is the issue of slowing it down, hovering, and climbing or descending while retaining both the features of a helicopter and an airplane.
Now with a good scripting team, the hover and turning while in hover would not be a problem, but having it behave like a helo while having a aircraft class in OFP would be impossible.
I know, I've had some experience in this area and I can tell you for a fact that what I said is the reason why the Osprey cannot be fully or even mostly simulated. You can operate it sort of like a harrier but that is as advanced as it can get in OFP.

the point Im making is that if you use the acceleration script that is shown in the Airwolf addon, you could modle a Osprey moving forwards at high speed without tilting the whole helicopter. I wouldn't suggest you moddle it with the rotars facing full forwards so that it would opperate like a plane, but half-forwards so it looks like it should be constantly moving forwards.
Basically, you create a V-22 in the helicopter class with the rotars in the full-upright hovering position. It operates like a normal helicopter in every way. Then, using the action menu, you can activate a script that accelerates the Osprey forwards and keeps it at a constant speed. At the same time, it models the rotars tilting to a 45 degree angle.
Try out the Airwolf Helicopter addon and you'll see what i mean, you activate the "turbo" function through the action menu and it accelerates the chopper forward and keeps it moving at about 500 km/h. It handles almost like a plane when you do that.
In short, don't try and make a plane into a helicopter; try and make a helicopter into a plane.

Couldnt it be possible, that in an Osprey addon you have two models - identical, but one a plane and other a helo, just the class different. Then you takeoff and animate rotors turning. When you get speed enough, models just change, swapping every soul and data to a new model, that behaves as a plane. Maybe the change would be noticeable, maybe not really. Worth trying with making just a box addon as plane and helo and changing models with that simple idea of testing.

Ok, that is EXACTLY what im talking about! The Wanzer pack includes a mech that operates the exact way im proposing that a osprey could be made! Try it out and you'll see!

WARNING:
Sci-Fi not allowed.

I am simply pointing out a addon that uses the same features as im suggesting would work on a V-22! The Osprey itself is the topic the sci-fi addon im pointing out simply uses a script that could be applied to it.

take it easy man, take it easy! ;)
Just remembering about rules here... ;D

the falklands MOD is rumoured to have developed a VTOL system for their Sea Harrier re-release which i'm hoping is coing out soon. I see no reason this sort of thing (if it truelly works) could not be aplied to the V-22 and other VTOL turboprop aircraft.

Actually I think they realesed a beta for that. It's ok, but it's still just a plane that can hover, and it can't hover all that well (All it can do is go up and down).

(All it can do is go up and down)
Noooooooo..........it can go forwards and backwards also.

lol, I ment it can't strafe, and last I checked it can only go forwards, not back.
Mind you it's been awhile since I used it, so I could be mistaken.

No i meant the new improved Falklands Sea Harrier...Revolutionary control system NOT using the control menu.
This is straight from the news section on the falklands mod website
Sea Harrier Update - Posted on November 21st, 2004 am 11:11 AM
First and probably the most important news is the Harrier has a completely new VTOL system that was kindly donated to the mod. Here's a brief rundown from Col Klink.
This system doesnt rely on the menu at all. That's right! No clumsy menu entries to access. Normal take off is via the W or E keys (or by joystick throttle) VTOL by Q and Z keys. Next I'm spending a lot of time making the cockpit as realistic as possible. With not many decent photos to go by and only a simplistic gauge layout this has been a long task, considering the Harrier was released almost 18 months ago. External stores now reflect the dual role the Sea Harrier undertook during the Falklands campaign. 2 main variants now, the standard as already relaesed for CAP duties, and the strateghic bomber version as used initially as a ground attack platform with both AIM9L missiles for air defence and Mk83s (or equivalent) for airfield bombing.
Some additional tweaks have also been/or being added to the Harrier:
- Ejection seat routines updated.
- Beefier engine sound.. especially on VTOL - WIP
- Dust cloud take off
- Twin gun smoke and shell ejection routines.
- Damage model - WIP
and heres a pic, this could be used on the V-22 if its as good as they say it is.

oh, i didn't see that :P
I'll have to try that out when it's finished...
