Are you going to include the inland of Normandy? It would be cool if you did towns like Carentan in your map. Also you should make farms, hedgerows, roads, and forests so that we could make an airborne mission.  ;D

btw.
thanks man. i'm really looking forward to your map.

looks very cool! good job ;)

p.s
but do you know that your old normandy map,
when the higgins reaches near the shore, it turns around and goes back to the sea. I hope you could fix this like making the shore flat. thank you and i think your new map is gonna be really great!  ;D

Very good! Are the textures blended know though? In the second last pic they werent but it appears in the very last one they are.
Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: pertti49 on 04 Oct 2002, 15:29:25
Yes textures has been blended ;) and u can see i have made cliffs in the backround.I have problem with seawall, besauce the aream, eaven if ill use one side of the cell is too wide when i rise the level so if u whant to get enough high cover for bungers mg-fire the seawall have to be 10m high because there is no way to get thin rise.Same problem whe making trenches if u lower whole cell the trench will be 10m wide and to fit that like 4m wide u need 3 lines of sandbags in both sides lol and the trenches arent never very short, one cell need 60 bags and 100m long it will be 600 bags too much objects and the sides arent directly straight they are curved dam i hate these creative limits ;)

greetings:pertti49
Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: Frosty on 05 Oct 2002, 05:51:51
Hey, you could always make a model for the seawall and place it on the map. You know like how you place trees and houses. And you could also make a trench model - believe me, it is possible.
Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: TkKivi on 05 Oct 2002, 09:50:31
Any possibility that Pertti you will use custom ground textures?

For example you could use the textures of the ZafanaÂ's ground textures if you ask the permission of the author (DRB)

You can download it here :
http://ofp.gamezone.cz/index.php?sekce=islands (http://ofp.gamezone.cz/index.php?sekce=islands)

They are real good!
Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: pertti49 on 05 Oct 2002, 15:34:36
Yes that is possible but AI cant use them like use in a trench u can put it set unitpos"up" command to stand in it but if u like the allied example run in to the trench to take it over no way man sorry ;) and AI cant run over the modelled seawall they need ground of map they start to round it form nearest place :(
greetings:pertti49
Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: Frosty on 06 Oct 2002, 10:38:25
I believe it may be possible. BIS did it with the forests, if you notice they follow routes in between the trees. Nothing is impossible: except defing the laws of the universe, and in particular, gravity (which I attempted once with unpleasant results).
Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: pertti49 on 06 Oct 2002, 12:32:20
But as u know the routes between trees are ground and thats the reason why the can go trough forest but if u make seawall addon its one piece no land on it so AI can use only these routes=no routes=no going over, AI just find the nearest way to round it and continue to the waypoint sorry mate :(
greetings:pertti49
Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: BNT_overlord on 06 Oct 2002, 14:50:45
...I know that  >:( problem....
But maybe if someone make a seawall, maybe he can make it with two sort of part : one normal and one destroyed whith a hole... And then, maybe the AI can make soldiers going throught the hole of that damaged part of the seawall. ;)..What do you think about that pertti ? Do you think it's possible  ???
for my map i only used the walls who are in the game and they are not really the same like the real one...(and of course i've got the same problem like your) I hope someone will make one....

2) What town is that?
3) If it's ok, could you take off houses in the beach? :) It makes the place look bad.  :(

Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: BNT_overlord on 09 Oct 2002, 15:03:23
I suppose it's a view of Vierville's town, just behind the beach and DOG One exit.....
continue your job...

I know it's not realy easy, sometime i think it's too big for me, i may stop my map, it's too mutch work too try to create this as real as possible, cause i've got some others works...  but sometime when i see some messages sended in the differents forums, i think ..Ok wake up ! continue... it will be great!

So, keep it up Pertti ;D
and continue your Map, its good work ....

Post by: pertti49 on 09 Oct 2002, 23:32:41
Tx for support! i will need that and feel also often that hey i have used maybe 150h to do the map and still the area size that has made now is like piss of ant lol :D Lt.Speirs, its the Vierville-sur-Mer there was houses behind the seawall so lets keep the realistic way, but thanks for notising its good besauce the area is so big and cant always notise all detiles ;)

Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: pertti49 on 30 Oct 2002, 15:10:17
Ok i have notised that the southern part of the map is too big so ill let u to deside, do i cut the part and change it to wather and raise the edge as high hill or do i leave it as a big empty flat area? ;)
greetings:pertti49
Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: GCGoquingco on 31 Oct 2002, 10:34:11
I think you should just make the part of it water and make a high hill. (lessens the lag in game  ;)

Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: TkKivi on 16 Nov 2002, 08:13:22
As i said before, maybe you could use DRBÂ's islands textures (Zafana, if i remember right) It has awesome custom textures, grass, sand, field, and others.

Email him and ask if you can use them.
(DidnÂ't find any link to the Zafana)
Or use Resistance textures.
Title: Re:Normandy

Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: TkKivi on 16 Nov 2002, 19:07:02
when you extract the Zafana to your addons folder, it creates a folder or a .pbo in your addons folder that says "Land"
Inside there you can find all of the textures, they look crazy at first but when you preview them they come up normal.  ;)

Pertti
I hope you arent basing your map on Eb,com docs.
On Omaha the houses are only between Vierville exit and
Les Moulins exit.
On the beach  from wall down defences run as follows.
Hedgehogs 3 to 5 deep random pattern.
running parallel and between hedgehogs are ramps.
next up a row mainly stakes but ramps and gates occuring occasionally.
In front of this were 'C'Elements.
Stakes were positioned randomly all over also.

Post by: GCGoquingco on 20 Jan 2003, 10:18:09
Nice map perrti  ;D It's so damn cool!
Here are some suggestions that could make your final map better:
1) You should add more bushes
2) Put some flooded areas
3) Use resistance textures , trees, and bushes
4) Make the shoreline even
5) Make the part behind Utah beach bigger (for airborne missions)
6) Fix the bridge (it's too high)
7) Take away some of the houses on the beach (it looks weird)
8) Fix the roads connecting towns and bridges

btw.
What's the P49S pbo? it came with the normandy map
Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: pertti49 on 20 Jan 2003, 13:38:30
1)-yes i will add
2)-dont know yet
3)-it whould be stupid looking to use same trees as cold war and resistance verision mixed
4)-the real shoreline wasnt eaven
5)-yes i am going to do that
6)-yes i now that bug sucker and going to fix it ;D
7)-if u mean the houses on exit1 and 2 there was houses in real life and going to fix roads

P49S is roadsigns pbo. ill added it besauce illÂ'tested it once in my map and now its requesting that addon, without it it will give a notise for missing pbo in ofp editor ;)

Use the bunkers from the bunkerpacks and place them on the beach ;)
Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: pertti49 on 20 Jan 2003, 17:22:26
Ill tryed it allready before but its too hard to add them in wrp besauce bungers are not blinearized so u cant see them in wrp and its too hard to move it like 1mm in wrp and import the map and see that its not in right place after 100 trying ;)but i will do mission as soon as somebody will do US infantry and rangers and the bungers will be just in right place added in editor ;D

Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: Wilco on 22 Jan 2003, 22:19:47
Hmm, I have one small dillema, the higgens dont land at the beach, i think you need to make the begining of the beach more deep, I cant make any mission only because they turn away no matter where I put them.
Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: pertti49 on 23 Jan 2003, 04:29:50

have you considered using resistance textures and trees?
Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: Wilco on 24 Jan 2003, 02:54:52
Thats what is there already, but I'm adding costum textures, and one small thing, I get white instead of the dirty sand, Ill try to work on it pertti, ill try......
Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: pertti49 on 24 Jan 2003, 03:24:52
I whould say it looks stupid to add same tree as 2 versions besauce it took me 4 month to add all those trees and deffenedly NOT going to remove and start another round :(but thanks for the tip anyway they are always wellcome ;D textures: there is no use of resistance sand texture besauce there is no fitted grass and sand texture so u cant make the beaches hills where the sand and grass meet lower hill
greetings:pertti49
Title: Re:Normandy
Post by: Oskar on 25 Jan 2003, 02:52:06
i think the normandy map looks a bit odd but very good for this verision first of all.
here is a short comments list of ur map

Textures: The textures doesnt look that odd they are like squares and it looks twice so odd in the air u should make them blend into the other textures for an example, make the sand blend into the grass, there is a tutorial on how to make that somewhere here on ofpec.

Terrain: TOO MUCH FLAT GROUND lol, i know it was pretty flat on normandy but not that much. And i think u should think about the tress, i dont think thress grow in 400 years just around a road with no tress besides it, EDIT! lol, and the tress at the fields, lol i dont think it looks like that, hedgerows maybe but i know there is no hedgerows in ofp for now but why dont just add bushes? looks the same almsot.

The Beach: The beach, well there is the texture thing again, squares, lalala, some houses, it was pretty good overall on the beach not much complain on that.

Overall: 6/10 points, the map looks very promising and with the texture thing fixed and the map filled out it will be a 10 scorer u'll see, good mapping in the future.

Oskar over and out

Post by: Frosty on 07 Feb 2003, 07:31:16
You really shouldn't rate anything based on a beta test, Oskar. Good to see your opinions, but be fair, all your rating is going to do is lower Pertti's morale. Once, he reachs v1, perhaps you can rate it, but c'mon, beta 1. It's like buying a PC mag and seeing them r8 the l8est previews and betas. It really would deter you from purchasing it, wouldn't it?

OK, sorry about that, Pertti, I really like it and have no problemos with it considering its just a test. But in your future version, probably 2 releases from now, could you put in shrubs? It just makes the terrain look a little bare.

And lastly, please pertti, do NOT place the bunkers on the WRPEdit map. bad idea. What if the editor wants to move them? Mmm, yes. You can just release a template with them.

Hey how about a miniature map of Europe.  Of course it wouldn't be to scale but it would have all of the features to recreate the war on a 100 ~ 200 unit scale.  Features such as a small Britain (to set up an invasion), Normandy, Paris, Ardennes, Berlin and Stalingrad.

It's not realistic but at least I could feel like I'm marching across Europe while playing one the RTS style games people are making now.  Oh Russia would be in snow.

pertti, i'm real impressed by your work, i have one question and a request...

what elevation data did you use to get this map? i just can't find any .grd or .asc file for normandy, all GIS sites requires me to buy all kinds of software....do you have an elevation data txt? where from?

the request: can i use your map and work on it? i'd like to finish it for myself and make it suitable for any missions of my own... i just want to ask you this, because you would deserve all the credit if i'd release it (which i don't think i will, i probably won't finish it, because it would take way too much time)....
