Title: Sitting on a tank?
Post by: pexisan on 22 Sep 2002, 20:47:11
Could  it be possible for troops to sit on a tank?
This is very used way of transport for troops in Russian army.
I mean that troops could sit on the side of T-72/T80. Is that possible? Could somebody tell me? ???

it can only be done with getpos/setpos so it is scriptable but it tends to muck up, allthough, i could investigate the proxy's in O2

i'll get back to you on that one  ;)

yeah, that tutorial allows you to sit on the tank using getpos/setpos, but it screws the tank up (it can only move at 5mph, and if the soldiers move it looks crappy.

I had a play with O2 and it is possible, but you will be unable to fire your weapons.

It will use the "Get in cargo xxx" option, and you will sit/stand/lie on the top.

Give me a week and i will put it in the addons beta testing section.

Cool!
It don't matter if the soldiers can't shoot, as long as they on the tank. It would give more realism to Russian troops. I've seen a lot of footage about Russians sitting on a tank, most of them get hurt when the tank goes into a mine... :'(

Well, considering an anti-tank mine can damn near vapourise a 60-odd ton MBT, i can't see the crew finding it very thrilling...

"I've seen a lot of footage about Russians sitting on a tank, most of them get hurt when the tank goes into a mine... "

They sitting mostly on BTRs and BMPs, not on tanks. And they not get hurt on top (at least not to death) Thats exactly why they sitting on it.

Second reason

It only take 2-3 second to disembark and take defensive position in case of ambushes.
