Hello. Just got OFP-GOTY so I was looking through some of the good old missions. Noticed some things I'd like to know.
Fitting in Text - In the very first cutscene for Cold War Crisis, there is a Radio News Broadcast. The subtitles cover multiple lines on the screen. How do I do this using a trigger? Is it possible using a trigger, or do I have to execute a script? Usually I have to fit my text in one line because otherwise it goes outside the screen's capacity.
Titles - Uh... oh yes! 'OPERATION FLASHPOINT' was a nice little thing at the start of CWC. How did they get the title nice and bold like that? This is probably one that's dead easy, as I haven't checked for myself yet and I'm only putting it in here because I'm asking other things to.
Cracks - No crack for GOTY 1.96? My CD Drive is pretty slow and in previous games I've noticed they run much smoother with a crack instead of running of the CD.
Thank you!
-
i wouldn't ask about cracks, as that's deemed as warez on these forums.
multiple text, just place \n where you want a new line to begin
to use the tiles that come with the game, just go to the effects section of a trigger or waypoint and have a look under resources (bottom of effects section)
-
Could you tell me something about this /n deal.
I'm pretty sure I got it to work in hints before. But in regular white text, no.
Example:
Ohh no, General Guba is giving food away to the /n
people of Everon, so NATO nuked him.
Is that how it is applied?
I could never get it to work. :P

\n

AFAIK you don't need a CD when 1.96 is installed.
-
GuiltyRoach(Sorry if the name is a bit off)
You're using the wrong slash.
You are using /n. That doesn't work, it happened with me too.
You have to use \n. As for it working in hints, I never new it was required in hints.
BTW, What does AFAIK mean?
Thx in advance.
-
As Far As I Know.
I can never remember if its /n or \n but there is no space between the slash and the n and it works fine in hints or titletext. GRK's example is substantially correct.

AFAIK you don't need a CD when 1.96 is installed.
You do if you have installed the 1.96 patch official release...
If you use the 1.96 beta, it has no CD check...

Which is why I use the beta. It makes for more stealthy startups in the middle of the night ;D ;) .
-
I was using the 1.96 beta as it didn't need a CD.. But I'm gonna start in ofp multiplayer, so decided it was better to have the latest version.. And discovered it doesn't need the cd ;D
It just checks you 've installed it properly (Like o2 does), non need for a cd

;D ;D
And why do you prefer that, I wonder... ::)
Then again, CD check is the most idiotic thing anyhow...
It's not the best way of protecting a game ::)

You need to make a pic file (*.paa) of your text, then config it as a resource pic in the description.ext (rscTitle) and then use titleRsc command to apply it in-game....
There should be some tutorials about this at the Ed Depot... (shouldn't there ??)
-
Well that explains it, it I have any problems with /n or \n I'll know to use the opposite. ;)
I use 1.96 beta cause I never knew there was an official patch until now. Any BIG things that they improved? :P
@CoolZ you can call me GRK if you want, I know its a long name ;)
-
AFAIK, 1.96 RC, 1.96 beta, and 1.96 are exactly the same. I read somewhere that there were no changes between any of them so if you had one then there was no point changing to the other.

This is true.

Well, I'm using the full 1.96 official patch and I don't need the CD to be in the drive.

Yes, titlersc is the way to go and yes, there should be a tutorial about it in the editors depot.

I can confirm the above. Neither of the 1.96 patches check for CD. The real question is: was it intentionally left out by BIS or was it an accident? I bet my money on intentional. Maybe BIS thought it so that the game is three years old - let's make it alwailable for the most so that they can see how good game it is and when OFP2 comes out they'll run to the nearest store and buy it. :)

Of course we'll run to the nearest store and buy it! What else would we do? Wait around with 1.96 for two months so OFP2 will go down in price? :D ;D
Doesn't matter, my CD drive is okay, not great, but somewhat fast, it annoys the hell out of me when it whines with OFP in there. Its hard trying to hear the sounds while WHHHIIINE! ::)
-
It was, in my view, definitely intentional. In fact I discussed it with a couple of pals before they did it - at this stage of the product lifecyle its the obvious thing to do, and we know that Marek and co. are smart people.
-
I don't understand... You think BIS removed CD checking on purpose? What for, exactly? To allow illegal copies to be played without limitation? I don't really think so...
-
why not? its 3 years old... costs less than £10 to buy, and probally hasnt seen any sales for a while... also allows the LAN community to use it more and gets more people hooked, like i was with the free demo - worked on me, why not others...
when ofp2 comes out, they'll have a larger audience to sell to
-
Can't they simply make an announce on their website, saying something like "OFP is now free, you can legaly download it through your favorite P2P network"?
And you know, the CD protection has never been a barrier to playing OFP, even without a nocd crack...
-
Noon416 warned me that if you give your CD away to others to get a multiplayer going it will do the FADE deal and the CD is destroyed since its the same version of the game on two or more PCs and the game itself might go bye bye to. :'(
Good thing I didn't try it then... :P
-
I tried that (I was never the original owner of CWC and gold upgrade) and I'm perfectly fine. No problems at all. My friends stuff is fine too.
-
LOL. Longest topic I ever created... Well I got my answers anyhow (And yes, the official patch does operate without the CD I just discovered). Thanks for everything!
-
Doesn't matter I wont let anything happen to you OFP!
*sits down and starts stroking his CD*
:D ;D
-
Hah. I won't let anything happen to my OFP-GOTY either. It's just so... just so damn beautiful!!!
Anyway, back to my original set of questions... about starting another line with text in a cutscene.
How do I do this through a script? I tried using the "/n" in two different ways but for some reason it just don't do it. Any suggestions?
-
\n after the last word you want on that line... its as simple as that - i'm referencing from a working script here, so i know it works
-
Oh right. Forgot about trying the other slash. Silly me.
-
Ah, can anyone help me with putting in a title image?
I can't find any appropriate tutes.
Thanks for everything so far.
-
For the flashpoint title screen you just need
titleRsc ["Flashpoint", "PLAIN"]
I can't remember the names of the others, but I think you can make them appear from a trigger.
If you want your own, then first make the image and put it in your mission folder. Then define it in description.ext
For example:
class RscTitles
{
class naughty2
{
idd=-1;
movingEnable=0;
duration=8;
name="naughty2";
controls[]={"Title"};
class Title: RscPicture
{
text="naughty2.jpg";
x=0.300000;
y=0.000000;
w=0.500000;
h=1.000000;
};
};
};
And use
titleRsc ["naughty2","plain",0.1]
when you want it. There is a tutorial somewhere because I used it, though I can't remember where.

Thanks macguba. Clear as crystal. Cheers. :)
