Title: Sounds
Post by: Mr. S.A.S on 11 Feb 2004, 22:26:54
I am trying to get some sounds from C&C Generals Zero Hour, but I cannot open the type of files it uses. Does an a yone know where I can get such a tool?

I suggest you write an e-mail to EA/Westwood and ask them if you can use their sounds for OFP, and then ask them if they have any way of retrieving the sounds.

Because you're not allowed to just use their sounds (well, any content) in your addon, since that would violate the copyright law.

You could get around it by recording them straight from the speaker as it's being played by C&C with a mic. I do that and with a bit of tweaking and hiss removal I can get good quality sound files. Just be sure to turn the music off and keep the kids out of the way.  :gunman:

@ The Arcitect:

You do it by direct mikeing?? I recently played an FDF-Mod mission that, I think, you yourself have made. I remember the sound quality to be quite good, although I'm not sure wheter it was speech only...

What mike do you use? What software for tweaking?

Any mic, and the software is Goldwave 5.summit (The newest one) You can get it free from their site.
To get a decent quality I wrap the speaker and the mic together in a thick wooly jumper. That gets rid of some unwanted background noise and echo.
Don't laugh at me  :-[
