Title: .bin file format?
Post by: andywt on 02 Feb 2004, 22:14:56
What tool or program will allow me to open/decrypt the config.bin and resource.bin files found in the operation flashpoint/bin folder?

Thanks in advance.

PBO Decryptor 1.3... and only 1.3...

I think you can get it by searching from ofp.info (http://ofp.gamezone.cz/index.php?newlang=eng)

Thanks.

Pbo decryptor 1.3 opens the config.bin file in the /bin folder, but not the resource.bin.

Does anybody know of any other utilities for opening .bin files?

OFP Manager comes in really handy, shame it was never finished off.

Thanks.

Are there any programs capable of decoding the context.bin file found in the main flashpoint folder?

I dont know, but if you open it with a hex editor you will see it does not contain the same info you would find in the Addon bin's. Probably something to do with the exe.

Thanks again.

The reason I was wondering about the context.bin was because several mods, such as the FDF mod have a new context.bin.  Someone must know how to open this file or at least create a new one from scratch.

anyone?

Context.bin does not appear to be required by OFP RES to run, try removing it from the directory. My modified date for Context.bin is todays and the time is roughly the last online game I played.

So it may be worth deleting it and getting online to see if its related to the server?

Greetings,

So it may be worth deleting it and getting online to see if its related to the server?

NOT Reccommended. Instead, try moving it to a different folder, or renaming it. If you delete it outright and it is an OFP system file, then your OFP is screwed...

I prefer to err on the side of caution... ;)

Context.bin in the main OFP directory seems to record the /Users information, any errors encountered during play or in the editor, among other things.  Also, as you said unnamed it keeps a record of the last time flashpoint was run and isn't needed to play on single player RES.  I don't play online due to an unreliable connection so I can't test to see if it is checked by a server.  Does anyone know if there is more to the context.bin file?

I just played online without the Context.bin, and no new version was created. The last thing to try would be a Linux server .bin files are used with Linux, amongst other things.

No worries, next time I'm on a Linux server I will check it again.
