It's not that far Off, and I think it's just the US with HUGE Air Craft carriers, I know the UK has really nice ones, but I think the Nimitz Class is the Biggest, (Not Sure though).

I served aboard the Washington's slighty older sister, the Abraham Lincoln, and as they are late model Nimitz class carriers, they are by far the largest and heaviest warships of any kind now, and ever before in world history. The exact dimensions evade my memory, but IIRC, it was very nearly 1000 feet long, 250 feet wide, flight deck was close to a hundred feet above the waterline. They displace nearly 100000 tons, fully loaded. They carry a compliment of nearly 6000 crew, and passengers. Nominal airwing comprises about a hundred fixed wing aircraft, and 6-12 helo's.
Now, I was one of the nuclear engineers aboard, so I can also tell you the ship's propulsion and engineering systems were even more impressive than the sheer size of these monsters. They're very fast, with two seperate nuclear reactors driving four steam turbine engines with shafted propellers, producing 65000shp each. I can't say exactly how fast they are due to security restrictions, but suffice to say you could practically waterski behind her under the right conditions, lets say it's more than thirty knots. At full steam she could outrun her battle group, and sustain that speed for a week or more. That translates into nearly 500 miles per day.
So endeth the sermon...

Us brits aircraftcarriers are tiny incomparison to them yank things ;D but size aint everything, during the FALKLANDS WAR we had 2 cariiers down there the HERMES and the INVINCIBLE and on those ships combined was a TOTAL of 20 SEA HARRIERS, they had to protect the task force from over 150 argentine fighter and bomber aircraft, and not one HARRIER was lost in air to air combat, although we did loose some ships it was mainly due to the exocet missile.
So size aint everything when u got the best pilots ;D

I somehow got it into my head that NAA US Marine's carrier was supposed to be the USS GW. And please don't get me wrong - it looks good - certainly way better than anything I could do. I'm looking forward to seeing it in game as much as anyone.

the royal navy is still a pretty fearsome thing, carriers arent everything :) although i believe britain will be getting a couple of supercarriers soon(when i say soon i mean in military terms = 10-15 years)

Uh, yes carriers ARE everything, thats why every industialized nation in the world wants them, and hates the US Navy for having 14 of them. It's an entirely different bag of worms, but carriers are the ultimate in flexible naval power projection. Battleships of the line are gone for good, at least for the forseable future, and only the nuclear submarine can defeat the carrier battle group... Luckily we've got them coming out of our ears as well.
Yes, The UK's full deck carrier is coming along soon, and will be the premiere naval superpower in Europe, until France works the bugs out of their Charles de Gaulle class light aircraft carriers. I also expect effective medium weight carrier designs to emerge from Italy and Spain, by the end of the decade.
And gents, our next carrier design to be built by 2010, will be a magnitude more effective than our current supercarriers. CVN 78 and beyond will incorporate many stealth innovations, as well as a more effective interior design, quadruple redundancy command and control systems, databuses, damage control, and egineering/propulsion equipment.
Further, with the advent of JSF and UCAV, the airwing will be tremendously more effective. Imagine more than a hundred stealthy attack planes able to attack any target within 2000 miles of a US carrier battle group, in any weather, day or night, with prcision guided munitions.
No warning, no where to hide, no mercy.

Oh yea.......what always makes me laugh is the stealth fighter, opiomizing America's eagerness and Britains still worthy shite:
America wanted to test the new stealth fighter against a worthy adversary so decided to fly it over the atlantic to britain without warning.....a few hours after take off america got a call from good old blighty saying they'd spoted a plane over the atlantic on radar, very faint signal, had they lost one?

Confidence in one's own weaponry, leads to victory on the battlefield. For instance, the F-117 Nighthawk pilots actually scored better on strike missions after they had made the initial attacks during Desert Storm, because they realized the stealth technology worked. Thus no losses for the stealth pilots, and excellent sortie records.
Guys, we take it seriously, because we've won wars with our technology and determination. Someday you might need us again, what then?

The aircraft carrier is a great idea! Im happy that some ones going to finish one... but...it needs to get stretched out just a little little. And I hope that you find some nicer textures but I'll download it anyways even if the textures aren't the best. Have you guys seen the Dock landing ship at flashpoint1985 forums it has 7 decks and 2 chopper pads and you can drive in amphibous vehicles in it! Look at those textures and I hope that you'll make it so that you can walk inside your carrier to like in battlefield 1942! me and friends where having close quarter combats on the destroyer and the carrier. btw they've made 2 versions of the Dock landing ship to.
And about the americans and their arms beeing better... yeah sure its true but the've also got many more internal problems in their country like crime and they go bombing poor countries because of they only want their oil and don't like the leaders. I think that some things where better during the cold war when there was 2 equally powerfull nations that outwheigted eachother.. I live in sweden and we haven't been in war for more than 100 years but I think it was noble by the us to Save europe from da evil Nazis in ww2. Im only trying to say that america isn't the best country in the world and I think we should concentrate ourselves on colonizing space than to bomb some starving kids in some 3'rd world country!

People I'm just a soldier/servant of my nation, one of a very long line. I don't make policy, I just enforce it. I never said we didn't have our faults, that the US was perfect. Maybe some of what Commando just said is true. But that's mostly out of the average Americans hands to change. Actually, we can make changes if need be, but are unlikely to do so until a situation becomes problematic for US. And right now such a situation exists... the American people feel threatened, and world opinion seems a bit threatening as well...
When we feel this way, we shift into a higher gear, and take the fight to our enemy. That's who we've attacked, will continue to attack, and eventually will destroy. And woe be to anyone, or anything that gets in our way.

We don't bomb 3rd world countries to kill children, we do it to kill the terrorist that kill our children. Rarely do we kill civilians, and the only time we do it is when technology fails us,or someone screws up,but we never do it on purpose ,thats the bad side of advancent, technology isn't perfect and never will be because no matter how far in the future we get there will always be human error....

Well, as a veteran of the U.S. Navy, I can confirm that the largest ships ever built are the Nimitz class carriers. When I say largest I mean overall size and weight. Ironically, the U.S.S. Enterprise (built decades ago) was the longest carrier built. And, consider this when you mull over American naval strength. We have 14 operational carriers with more coming online every year. But we also have several decomissioned super carriers of older classes available for use within two months time and a fleet of standby aircraft parked out in the Sonoran desert in Tucson Arizona (I know this because I live there) to complement them. Aside from nuclear weapons, the ultimate tool for power projection and control of the sea lanes is the modern carrier battle group. Oh, I'm also glad to see the English are getting back into the power projection business with their own super carriers. It is nice speaking as an American to see our friends have a little muscle to flex.
Next topic. They are called stealth fighters for a reason. That reason being that they are "difficult" to detect without the best and newest radar systems, and even then it is extremely hard to spot them as their signature is akin to that of a large bird (albeit one doing 550 knots at 35,000 feet ). If they were impossible to spot on radar they would be called Invisible fighters or Undetectable fighters or more likely, they wouldn't be called anything as our government would never let out we had something like that in our arsenal.
