What is the top limit in surfaces a model can have?
i have a model, but it has somewhere like 15000 surfaces, and buldozer cannot display the model.
So if any of you had an idear of how many surfaces the model can have, please let me know
-
My last model did that
if you tell me how to count them
I can give you an answer

Face counts and point counts are displayed in the bottom left corner of the Oxygen window.
Select the whole model and look there for the info.
Information for each LOD is of course different.

Seems to me that right about 10,000 is the max if I remember correctly...
we ran into this problem when making the submarine's pilot view .. it's got about 9800 for the final version but when we tried to push that 10,000 face limit some bad things happened ;)

There is also a limit for the number of objects that Oxygen supports. In a huey I was making the number of faces was only 6500, but the number of objects was around 300. The model wouldn't show in buldozer until i either joined some of the objects or deleted them.

Well Buldozer displays my model @ 14500 surfaces...
-
points 10495
faces 9432
thats the count roughly when bulldozer
packed it in on my model.
Maybe what type of PC your using could vary the count.

gilbert was that O2 #surfaces?
-
The answer here must come from the guys who made O2.
The events that cause model not to show in bulldozer seem to be either. 1, too many faces
cant be because i have 2 models and the 1 with the lower face count wont show.
2, too many components
again...cant be that because the model with the lower component list wont show.
I gave the texture memory in O2 1ghz to play with and no difference occured.
Patch or reason from the O2 Dev's would be great ???
-
well i tried a few things and a fix for the problem (for me it works) is to go into the selections box and delete all the components ,(in name only!)
except Component1 ,which you should re-asign to the whole model..
-
Just a suggestion, but why not try making your model....errr....more simple? :o ;D
-
As a rule I dont go over 2500 faces. I make tanks.
If the OFP engine can display 25,000 faces I dont care as whatever model you make would lag like hell.
Forget adding detail to the model and add it to the textures :)
Max components is 128 I think btw

Let's have a look at what BIS did:
(demo models)
http://www.freewebs.com/department_of_funky_proxies/support.htm (http://www.freewebs.com/department_of_funky_proxies/support.htm).
search for the text "the Lod Bible"; as the file is quite long (!)
I can tell anyway: max is about 1800...
It will give you an Idea - Main types of models are referenced - Of what they did with Low-End users in mind. I know that BAS, for instance, is going over 5000 & warns that they are "hard to display" in numbers.
No Addon-maker should forget the compatibility of their work with a maximum of people.
I sometimes think that, as BAS did, the addons should come with some reference on their "weight" so that concerned people are warned prior to download them.
