Title: Readme tag system, similar to addon tag system?
Post by: Lt_Phoenix on 19 Nov 2003, 16:05:54
I was tidying up my HD the other day and it took me ages, since I had to rename readme's from the hundreds of addons I've DLed so far.
It struck me as ood why the readme's didn't have a similar tag system as the addons, especially since the current AAE installers tend to install all the files into the default folders, and overwriting other readme's.

I'd also like to see most addons including readme's with info about the addons (especially weapon and magazine names for weapon addons). It makes it so much easier to tidy up the addons folders from time to time. Sometimes ti's very difficult to figure out why I have certain pbo's in my addons folders, but I don't dare delete them in case they're required for othher addons to run.

Didn't know if this was the right place to post this topic. If not the Mod's will most probably move it to the right place.  ;)

I tend to print out any readmes containing useful information; I've got all my OFP stuff in a big binder, divided by category; vehicles, units, scripting, and so on.

I do agree.

TagName_AddonName.nfo is my opinion.

We could set up a standard that said:

- the rar/zip file must have a folder NFO containig TagName_AddonName.nfo

-Then all compliant addons will send the Mod/Addon NFOfile to one & only folder.

-There must be an NFO folder for each Mod. Only Modfolder && the AddonFolder will then have a NFO folder

-The infoFile must be structured,  provide full info & background information + credits.

...One could also explain WHY he/she is actually building up the 5423507th M4...

...This could be fun...

I'd prefer it if they were normal readme.txt, but with the mod name at the start of the name. .NFO files always try to open in System Info, which gets irritating if you forget to Open With...

ModName not enough : Soooo Many M4 out there...

I have a collection of FN p90 you wouldn't believe.
And .50 sniper stuff.... Ouu la laaa...

OK for .TXT extention, but if it's the first time one meet an .nfo, WIN$%£ÂµÃ¹(  will ask anyway.

Not really important I guess, if there are no real Guidelines for the community about such a detail.

Irritating detail, as Lady Lt_Phoenix stated.

Cheers,

Of course, but with mod name I meant the entire name, including the tag. Just as long as it's still a readme.txt - .nfo irritates me.
