Okay.. what is the best programs to rec. sounds. In your opinion.

 the Best free program?  

Cause I'm a recording engineer and I could give ya the names of all the best programs out there.. but  none of em are cheap cause it's all professional stuff ;)

(seems like lots of people in the OFP community use this program... never used it myself seems a little too simple for my applications)

Sound Forge 7.0

(Awesome software.. list price of around $400-$500 range.. but the demo is fully functional)

 (Heard about it from a friend..  seems to be a nice program.. lacking alot of functionality for any professional user.. but if you're simply recording dialogue for missions this should be sufficient)

If I could just "borrow" the thread for a moment... What would you recommend for writing scores, programming MIDI tunes, and recording an extra track over an MP3?

Basically, the situations are these:

Writing scores: at the moment I'm using Cakewalk Scorewriter, but it's a bit dodgy really. I also use it for writing MIDI files.

Recording: I play the drums, and when I practice I play music from my laptop through headphones. I sometimes record the drum track in SoundForge, but when I play to a second track in SF I get a lag of almost a second. Is there any way of sort of superimposing the two files? Or maybe adding the MP3 as one track and then recording the drums as a second track, without losing sync?

 For  notation software.. (the kind that outputs sheet music)  I'd have to say Finale is the industry standard ....

 In regards to MIDI recording I use Acid Pro 4.0 for all my MIDI work... but Cakewalk Sonar is another really good MIDI interface/recorder

  And the lag that you're experiencing is due to some latency issues with digital recording in general ... you're always going to have to fight it one way or another.. but most of the higher end programs/sound cards have developed ways to greatly reduce latency when monitoring something..
