Title: backpack
Post by: andersson on 04 Oct 2003, 02:43:07
I made a backpack addon.

Its far from perfect but it works.
Anyone who wants it can have it. I dont have the time and will to develop it at the moment.

The file is to big to attach here but give a reply here or message me so will I e-mail it to you.

Its a backpack-addon (secondary weapon) to which you "assign" a special crate (cargocapasity 4 weapons, 20 magazines) and when you drop the backpack the assigned crate are moved to the units position and 1 meter under ground so you cant see it. But you can take and put weapons to the crate (name "backpack") as you would to the backpack. When a unit picks up the backpack the crate goes to pos [1,1,-10].

There are issues and basic scripting and so on but it works for me. So if you need a backpack at all cost then its maybe ok? Or if you want to make something of it youre welcome.

Also, could u plz post a pic of the real back pack that u modeled it on?

This is a good idea, dunno why no one did this b4  :)

Nice work.

we're interested in developing this further into an addon for our campaign Andersson.

Send it on over and we'll put LCD to work on whatever scripting needs to be optimized ;)

Thanx for your replies and interest!

I made some pics but sorry Zayfod, I cant take a pic of the original bag because I modelled it from scratch and the textures are from my t-shirt!! :D
But I had a friends bag in mind when I did this duffelgab/backpack. Thats a bag that you can carry on the back as a rucksack. I think its swedish?

But IÂ'll show some ingame pics!

Here you see how the bag "falls" to the left when youre prone. Thats nothing I can do about that. Not that I want to!! Thats what you do in real life when you go prone with a backpack! :)

No. Its my fault. Must have sent you something with some old files in it. Sorry. I must have messed it up when I changed the tag...

IÂ'll look into it and send you it again. Sorry. I hope the rest off you that got the newer package.

edit: Yeah... It was an old mission, my mistake... I feel tired off myself...
Well if anyone wants the new correct file I can send it by email.

"Inga problem" ;D

And call me Armsty(I prefer Sir Noble OFP Mastha Armsty, but just Armsty would do fine too) ;D

I'll check the addon out tomorrow, have to do some last-min homework now ;D

Interesting addon...been waiting a long time for someone to make this idea work.

One thing I noticed is that it seems that you need to be positioned "just right" in order to be able to take anything from the bags (works fine for AI though :)), which is odd...is there any chance you could do something about that?  I don't know what if anything you could do...but it's just an idea.

The other thing is if you *could* somehow come up with a solution to the delay....that would be great too.  I'm sure if you asked around, someone could come up with a solution to that problem.

Other than that, no problems using it.

I really, really, really (did I mention really?) like this addon....I don't think the 10 bags limit is a problem since 1 bag can take care of a whole squad!  No longer do you have to worry about running out of ammo - just make sure that you keep the bag.

Now you can have a designated "ammo guy" for your squad, as long as you know the basics of working the bags in the radio menu.

 GREAT ADDON!

I think I'll put it in my paratrooper mission!

This could be very handy for MP missions, since it can be fiddly to have to grab the demolition dude's bombs off his body. Now we can grab his pack and run off  :)

I dunno about ammo, I like when the player is low on ammo, creates some kinda panic. But you can use it for much more things as well. Mines, Satchels for ambush missions, a secondary gun if your sniper/Spec Op goes bad, perhaps you can put a LAW Launcher and some missles there if you are allready carrying a radio(SEB Nam Pack 2) or why not some flares to mark out posses for other squads, but there's too many posses than you can carry flares wtihout risking that you'll run out of ammo.

The biggest problem me thinks is how you equip it, you can't access it in the gear selection briefing, but how'd decide what's going to be in it? Yea, OK, you can put in stuff via ammo crates but that ain't cool. :P

Well first of, let me just congratulate you on an damn fine idea  ...I have been wondering why no one's ever done anything like this before ::), once again great job :).
So I downloaded this, first from ofp.info, extracted the contents of the .rar,  :oand noticed to my horror that the file was in .p3d format :o... I'm pretty shure that AddOns are suppose to be in .PBO format :hmm: ::)... I tryed to rename the file extension to .pbo, but my assumptions of that failing where correct (unfortunetely :(). Well then I checked out this thread, used your link here and got the same thing :-\. So could you be so kind and correct this, or just e-mail this to me ASAP. Cus this bag of yours looks friggin gooooooood, and I'd make god use of it in my mission.

I dont understand why some only get the p3d-file?...... Its a rar-file and it contains 1.backpack.pbo  2.unpboed addon-folder  3. example-mission   4. readme.

But I can mail it to you Bizon because I dont know what to do to fix it.

:hmm:Hmm... I thoght WinAce was the best compression\extraction-program out there an could handle any filetype... guess I was wrong, looks like it didn't handle .RAR very well. ::) SoOOo I downloaded WinRar and got a much better result ;). In other words it wasn't your links or anything, it was the damn software I used :o :P Sorry for that. works god now ;D

A little update: My account at www-freewebs.com/andersson are frozen.

"The page you are looking for has expended its monthly bandwidth allowance and will be frozen until more is purchased or its bandwidth is reset. "

Thats bad because it was the only place where you could download Mr Greys improved version with sound...  :-\

But you can still download my first version at http://ofp.gamezone.cz/ (http://ofp.gamezone.cz/)

Lo Guys,

Andersson has already seen this...

I've replaced his original models and textures with a British Military PLCE Bergen.  There is a pic attached.

The texture mapping isn't particularly brilliant (I'm still getting to grips with O2) and the Shoulder straps aren't in the right position yet but I thought I'd share it.

You can download it from HERE (http://www.sol-legion.net/portal/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=8)

All feedback is welcome.(http://www.sol-legion.net/images/RKSL-PLCE.jpg)

Hmmm... "Rockape".... You're in the RAF Regiment?

A mate of mine from the ATC's in as a gunner, think he's a Cpl now.

I was until a few years ago. Now I sit behind a desk pushing a mouse round all day.  Something of a change in career direction. ;D

Hehe... another ex-Rock I know now runs a security company in the States; he was very chuffed when he'd just taken delivery of about fifty MP5-A3....
