Title: UK Desert troops
Post by: Blackblood on 11 Aug 2003, 09:29:03
Got tired of waiting for our beloved brits to join the fight...
Yes, itÂ's a remodel of W.M. CrielaardÂ's International Soldier
Yes, I have "borrowed" and darkened OPGWCÂ's camotextures.  ::)
Be nice people!

Post by: Blackblood on 11 Aug 2003, 09:32:01
Forgot to mention...the vest is totally BAS. Remember, this is very BETA!

Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: Blackblood on 11 Aug 2003, 09:35:28
You can remove the helmet revealing the bold guy underneath... ;D
Helmet animation is CrielaardÂ's work.

Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: Blackblood on 11 Aug 2003, 09:39:34
This a pic of a non-SUSAT SA80. The soldiers has customized animations in the config.cpp to hold the rifle in a sexy fashion ( left hand on the handle).
And still - Very BETA!

Errh...some bonus stuff...

Post by: swift88 on 11 Aug 2003, 10:35:45
looking gud.................better than any other uk troops ive seen yet (and i stress yet) hehehe nah im only joking very gud. Maybe you could have a soldier the gun at his waist when the soldier has a safe stance, but his gun is in his arms but not on the shoulder.............. i think there should be a man whom can hold his gun at his waist as if hes patroling or some-thing
Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: augieranger on 12 Aug 2003, 04:34:06
Nice, very nice, one thing (yes I am being a bit picky) how about shoulder patches? That is probably the biggest gripe I have with Flashpoint in general. Still they look very good. How long must we wait mate? ;D
Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: Blackblood on 12 Aug 2003, 11:05:51
Cheers!
Actually, they have patches. The soldiers just removed them during photosession to avoid recognition... ;D
Seriously, that is being sowed on asap.

ItÂ's gonna take some time between the updates - not too long I hope.
I am an insomniac. Add that and a day job - not a pretty sight.

I guess OPGWC will beat me to it, but their units look mighty fine too!

Looking very good. I like the darkened camo, looks good. I like the SA80 holding anim too, very nice. The tan's a nice touch too :)

All I can pick out is the beret. The capbadge is meant to be over your eye, not your ear :)

If you want a beta tester, give me a nudge mate  ;)

Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: Blackblood on 15 Aug 2003, 14:53:40
Sorry for the lack of updates and thanks for nice feedback and constructive critisism. I will make a seriuos attempt to deploy "the queens finest" after the weekend (say monday, tuesday). There will be a version without the rolled-up sleeves also.
The SA80-grip-anim now works fully with stand, crouch and prone.
Future attempt: Gun in the ready-position in safe mode (weapon in hands and not on back).

*busting the local store to get some caffein*. Have a nice weekend!
Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: Mr_Shady on 15 Aug 2003, 15:02:14
I think all that needs doing is the vest (changing it to the current British version), and maybe a bit of touching up here and there texture wise. Other than that, looks as tasty as the first pie of the day.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm pies  :D.

btw yes cap badges are usualy and should be worn over the left eye but the Para's usualy wear them more towards the left ear so your picture is correct.

This babyÂ's not dead yet...

I managed to salvage SOME of the old work from the wreckage of my sunken computer.

Sharing some early stage reworked units.
The assault vest is coming along nicely but is far from done (as pretty much everything else).

Ok, making progress, people. Just one thing though...do we REALLY need animated goggles? It works fine, but I truly hate the warping...IÂ'm thinking about scrapping the animation and just put a pair of static goggles on the helmet.
What do you think?
Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: swift88 on 03 Sep 2003, 21:46:28
i think if you do animate them you will have probs will prevent it from showing up in the first person view!!!!

Ok, static goggles it is (in the off-position). Modelwise the soldiers are almost finished. Just some texturing left to do. The SA80 is in itÂ's early stage.

Is this project dead ???
Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: Blackblood on 07 Oct 2003, 15:27:03
Quoting myself: "Got tired of waiting for our beloved brits to join the fight..."

Those words really came back with a vengeance! My spare time is - to put it mildly - very limited right now. IÂ'm afraid I have no other excuse...
Scrapped the SA80 anim for now. It works beautifully as long as you donÂ't try to get in a vehicle with customized anims - like the dunebuggy;ManActBuggydriver etc - the poor brit freezes in the "GET IN" anim that results in a pretty funny driveposition.
Also still struggling with the annoying glasses and beret showing up when in 1st person view in vehicles. (Phew, long sentences...)
Having serious thoughts of donating this project to people with more talent/time... Stay tuned.   :-\

Also still struggling with the annoying glasses and beret showing up when in 1st person view in vehicles. (Phew, long sentences...)

they need to be defined as selections, and written in the config with the same name in the CFG Models section
Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: Blackblood on 13 Oct 2003, 06:35:17
Nope thatÂ's not it. The sections and hiddenselections are accurate.
The hidden selections ARE hidden, believe me.  ;)
It probably has to do with the fact that IÂ'm using an INIT-eventhandler on the soldiers. 1.91 activates the handler over and over when getting in and out of vehicles thus providing a nasty abuse of 'setobjecttexture'. Yes, 1.92-1.94 beta solves that issue and will be tried out ASAP in my world.   :-\

Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: Blackblood on 07 Mar 2004, 12:21:52
Gee, guys. DonÂ't know where to start...
HereÂ's my share of moaning and whining:

Well, it IS 90% ready for release. I was actually going to release it the day before christmas but had issues with the custom made anims (BLB_Moves) and the SA80.

Problem 1: When utilizing your own animclass, it inheritates from cfgmoves but not necessarily from other usermade classes like for example :BAS cargo-anims.
Solution 1: I included the BAS animclass in my cpp, just to realize that I have to do that with everything of interest - Dune-buggy anim and so on...
Ended up scrapping BLB_Moves for regular cfgMoves.

Problem 2: The SA80 looked crappy and I really wanted to include the firearm in the same pack.
Solution 2: Wait for a better SA80 outthere...
Solution 2: Release the pack with standard BIS guns... :-\

Problem 3: Time, baby. Time. Got a dayjob that steals all my resources. Add a family = LIMITED SPARE TIME.
Solution 3: A payed vacation or sumthin...
Solution 3: Release as it is.

They are pretty cool looking lads and it would be nice to bring some british blood to the scene. DonÂ't get me wrong, the US models from BAS etc are excellent. Just think US models are a slight bit favorized allover the community. Being european (swedish) the lack of such units (euro) IS noticeable.

Phew...nuff blabbering, nuff excuses. Expect a release - with a fair amount of quality - in the coming two weeks. That's a promise.

These units look superb!  :o

Blackblood--you simply have to finish them. You are obviously very talented in this area, perhaps more so than you even realise.

With some further tweaks (mostly texture tweaks) these will be in the same league as the latest BAS and MAP units imho.

And yes--go the BRITS!

I hope to see these units released and ready for download from ofpec soon!

Good onya mate.

Zay
Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: Blackblood on 17 Mar 2004, 13:56:39
Just a sneak preview...
As for  the moment all units will be wearing an assault vest.
But a more standard look (desert chestrig and flak jacket) is also in the making. These guys (with a handfull of additional tweaks) will be released march 22-23. The boot textures are from BAS deltas, I will make my own.

...sorry for my lousy grammar... ::)
Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: Blackblood on 17 Mar 2004, 14:01:50
...the tanned look is a nanomillimetre thick layer applied by default on any face you choose (hidden selection). But it IS optional, just place the line "BLB_NoTan = true" in any field and your troops are pale riders again.  8)

Cant wait for the release.....btw, did u solve your warping issue with the goggle animation? If not perhaps check out these units.

There is a way you can fix the hands/wrists. If you send me an email, I can send you a p3d that has them sort of fixed so you can see how you can do it. Since the hands twist, it is really a paint to get them to work right in all situations and know how to fix it in o2.

Good to see OFPEC is back on track!

I made a promise and I kinda sticking to it.
BETA 0.5 is ready for release. I will contact Ofp.info asap to see if they're interested.
Hope you guys like it!
This version includes Paras and Royal Marines in PLCE Vests.
And remember...this is BETA, everything needs polishing.
...Blackblood needs sleep...

Thanx for the tip, Ebud. IÂ'll send you a reminder.  :)

or http://www.opflashpoint.org/ (http://www.opflashpoint.org/)

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to playing around with these units. It's about time we get some decent Brit troops.
Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: Blackblood on 02 Apr 2004, 19:40:50
Thanx for the inspirational feedback folks!

An open request:
Is there anyone out there who's sitting on, or modelling SA80's, and feels like contributing to this addon - please show yourselves.
The harsh reality is that my SA80 is at a pre-Alpha stage, ETA Q3. 2004.
That's not good enough. It would be cool to release V 1.0 with the right loadout. It simply can't be done as of now. Been learning thru trial and error the magic of modelling humans and I'm still a noob in the area... :-\

Well, well. BETA release it is (with M16's) - Saturday, GMT.

Included in version BETA 0.5:

Paratrooper
Paratrooper with headset
Paratrooper with helmet
Royal Marines Commando
Royal Marines Commando with headset
Royal Marines Commando with helmet
Regular grunt - low(ish) polygon count, Vertex: 2432. Faces: 2299
Sniper with desert booniehat
Regular grunt with desert booniehat

...all the above have a PLCE Assault Vest and a stiff upper lip.

The highest polycount is about V:2908, F:2704.
Pretty high but still lower than BAS Deltas if that makes any sense(?)  ::)

And DO check this out while your at it: http://www.swepack.tk/

By the way, congrats, Hungary! I learned today that you will be leasing 14 JAS Gripens. That baby rocks!
**Gets smacked in the head by the misses for blabbering too much**

They are indeed some good SA80's. Kabal also released an AWM pack which includes the L96 sniper rifle used by the brits.
I also recomend ADF's browning pack for the Mk3 version which is currently in use by the British Army.
For those of you who prefer the Sig P226, I recomend you check out SJB's handgun pack

Amazing what you can do with antialiasing and a nice sunset in OFP... ;D

And yes, Kabal's weapon pack is excellent.
We'll see what the future holds. Version 1.00 will take atleast a couple of weeks to finish as I'm alone on this project. That version will have the proper weapon loadout, either a reference to someone elses addon or a self-made pack bundled into the PBO.

Uploading the BETA-sneak-preview-something Version 0.5 to Ofp.info now.
They will hopefully host it as soon as possible.
This is a showcase of models not yet finalized, so the quality is not 100%.

Our site (ofp.info) is ready for upload beta version of your British desert units. Please send me link (or addon) to my private e-mail : muchl@iol.cz
We are looking forward for NEW BRITISH desert units. All addomakers are working on US (or Soviet or Russian) desert units. I use "old" British desert (woodland too) from BIBMI (or modification from OPGWC).

I meant slow, as in not up on the newspage yet.

It wasn't meant to offend. It's just that you probably get dozens of e-mails concerning news and new addons, that it probably takes a while to sift through them all, meaning that this addon may not be up for a while.

Another thing is the amount of people that visit your site to DL various addons makes it near to impossible to DL stuff from your site at times. This is why I suggested that these addons were mirrored at other sites too.

I would like to add that ofp.info is the first site I go to to see if there are any new releases.  ;)

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to trying out these new addons.  ;D

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE DOWNLOAD!

It works fine with the only exception that you can't extract the contents of the PBO (config.cpp, textures etc ).
By some odd reason I bundled it with convert.bin, a file that makes it harder to extract the PBO.  ::)
I didnÂ't see the reason why anyone would wanna open it up until calm_terror at the official forum reminded me...
He wanted to change the weapon-loadout by editing the config and my doorman kicked him out of the pub! My bad, folks!  :-[
I will upload a version asap with unencrypted PBO for your coding needs.

TO MAKE IT SHORT: You can use, abuse and play with this addon, but you can't edit it. Yet.

How can you add other peoples sa80's to thse troops??

1. Copy pbo over to a temp folder
2. Open the pbo with unpbo or a similar program
3. Open the config.cpp file in notepad
4. Search for the various soldiers and change their weapon and magazines
5. Save changes and repack the file with makepbo or something similar
6. Copy new pbo to addons folder (Remember to always back-up old the pbo)

Utilities for packing and unpacking pbo's can be found over at ofp.info

All you have to do is type in the weaponnames from Kabals pack in the config. It's much like adding weapons and magazines in the init field, when using the editor.
Open it up and have a look at the config. You'll know what I mean  ;)

If you still can't figure it out, send me an e-mail, and I'll send you an edited config.

If you want, you can download the Troops from here (http://ofp.edgegaming.com/) (Direct link here (http://www.edgefiles.com/file.x?id=/edgegaming.com/ofp/units/BLBukTrps0.5.zip)). They are ZIPPED though, which makes the files bigger (4.7MB compared to 3.5 for the RAR), but alot of people seem to prefere ZIP files. (it should be the new version, i downloaded them within the hour from the link gievn by Lt Phoenix on Official Forums).

But now for my opinion. GREAT! These units were very much wanted by mysefl and a few others i know, i'll get alot of use out of them in Multiplayer, and hopefully SP too if some nice missions come out, hopefully using the desert version of DKM's Challanger2 too!
Thank you Blackblood!  ;D  I was worried (until today) we would have to wait till OPGWC Mod was out for some good good Desert Troops (RM's in particular). Keep up good work, i'm looking forward to the version that comes with SA-80's.

The best thing about releasing unfinished stuff is that you get to see your work in another perspective. IÂ'm gathering a lot of intel from you guys, the feedback is great. Keep the criticism coming, folks!
Some important notes this far:

The gear is too clean - add a more dirty, weared-out look to them.
The broken wrist thingy - will be fixed with great help from Ebud
Make the tanned look default - yup, but still with an option to remove it

...and so on...

See you next week. Off to drink buckets of beer and eats some eggs.
Happy Easter to you lot!  8)

@Kabal SA80 suggestion,.,,

Please dont bother using these,, yep they look ok,,, so i tried them out,, sadly kabal has got his scaling all wrong and on your Desert UK they are simply about 5inches to small....  The holding anim has the marine holding the rifle at almost very end of gun,, in a mad moment of melting fingers to barrel,, ouch,.,,,
Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: simoneldridge on 08 Apr 2004, 13:40:04
Yes i did notice that

but it is only beta stages so by the time Blackblood is ready for a full releaseim sure he will have a perfectly scaled and looking SA80 :)

The only reason why i put them on there was to have some fun with the brit troops
and to me they didnt look brit enough with an m16/203
just personel preferance thats all. ;D

Cant wait for the full Release

Yep,, Im looking forward to them to,,, wasnt meaning to be mean about kabal suggestion, just came out type wise that way.
Perhaps some mix and match camo be nice to,, like our boys (brit) underfunded as it is,,, going into combat with des 'camo combats and norm dpm top..  Also final config on law would be great.  Other than that these are looking good...
I tried these out with using malvinas chopper pack and dropped off our lads in a desert in a seaking lol... looked cool... until i 4got no law in pack,, and a bmp ripped my platoon :)
Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: Mr Crow on 09 Apr 2004, 23:10:05
Very nice work so far mate. :)  It's a real shame that Kabal's SA-80 is mis-scaled as otherwise these would be pretty damned good.  make's a decent enough stop gap though.  I'm planning on using UKF's once it's released.

I'm chuffed I personally managed to edit the config, as I've never done anything like that before.  The challenge for tomorrow is trying to create a new class to use the LSW. :)

The one major gripe I have so far is the size of the model's arms, they seem a bit... beefy.  Is this what you mean by "The broken wrist thingy"?  On second glance the model as a whole loooks 'beefy', but this may just be my eyes playing up when I'm tired.  The arm's however, I am certain on. ;)

Secondly, occasionally, the para wings and the RM badges stick out from the bloke's arm.

Otherwise, excellent work so far.  Have a pint on me! :)
Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: Blackblood on 13 Apr 2004, 00:06:09
@ Mr. Crow
Yes, the arms are a bit too beefy. I've rescaled them a bit since 0.5 along with other tweaks.
About the overall beefy look: Well, actually I think most models incl. BIS defaults look like they're suffering from a bad case of anorexia. Even the skinniest guy will look beefy with a flak jacket and assault vest...
The 'broken-wrist-thing' is the free-floating hands...

Some changes this far (unreleased BETA 0.6):

0.51  - Removed 'osobnost' as part of 'SUNTAN'-selection to avoid funky facetextures.
0.52  - Made ALL units tanned by default (no scripting).
0.53  - Removed vehicleclass 'BLB - UK Init Handler' (see above).
0.54  - Tweaked: Better LOD on the boonie-version.
0.55  - Added groups in the editor (Royal Marines 8 men, Parachute Rgt. 8 men, Mech. Para group)
0.56 - Lightened up tan on arms (It was too dark-brown).
0.57 - Added a LAW-carrying bloke in all classes.
0.58-0.60  - Some minor tweaks on all models...

The release of ODOL Explorer 2.0 makes it possible for anyone to fiddle and tweak other peeps sweaty works so there's no actual need for me to try and beat the clock. I'm seriously thinking of donating the models as is to Project UK Forces (if they want it) or any other mod. Stay tuned...

Hey,
Just want to say, the addons are good :)
I've been making a misison with them already (Don't really plan on releasing them, just for me to play/some friends)

I downloaded the version of www.ofp.info a few days ago
I don't think it's the updated version.. I'm downloading now

I would offer to make a SA80 for them.. But my O2/buldozer isn't working very well atm (Crashes a lot, like the rest of this computer atm.. Getting Win 2k very soon, so I'll wait until I get that to restart)

You should ask someone who's made a SA80 already if you can include it in the pack?

:)

@ Wedge:
I''l include a word document version too, so that you can see for yourself what has been added, and learn from it.  That way you can learn a bit about config editing at the same time, and do it yourself in future
I'll use coloured text in the word-document version. Blue for added stuff and Red for changed stuff.

Gday all...

I very much enjoy these units.. (as screenies of our isle suggests)

I wonder if its possible to add to the originality of units by changing size of them eg small sniper 5ftish large Mgunner 6ft+ etc.. give them beef whereever required and 'anorexia' :)
Small characteristics like that a great.. as are wounded soldier models ;)
Other than small things this looks likes its coming along really well

I'm currently doing an update of my mission 'Paratroopers' (imaginitive name I know... ::))

Anyway, I used the SEB Paras in that one - which was released two years ago - but in this one, I'm gonna use yours.

I've kitted them out with BAS weapons (personal preference).

I'm really impressed with the quality of the units.
However I'd like you to consider two things.

1.. No NV Goggs
2.. No Medic (in helmet instead of beret)

Don't know if anyone's mentioned it but the sniper model has a bit of a problem, when using a secondary weapon (LAW etc) the model of the weapon is incorrectly displayed on the soldier model (i think it's something to do with the proxies, but you'll probably know more than me on that front). Other than that nice units.

@Chudley
How do you mean? Should I remove the beret-wearing medics?

@MadAussie
Yes, the blackout feature...It is cool but I've just removed any type of scripting or eventhandler on the units (hate lagging). Maybe I could provide next version with an extra .cpp devoted to such things...

The progress this far:
-The floating wrist are now remedied thanks to the great Ebud.
-The vest and pouches now have a pale dirtier look to avoid that 'straight outta K-mart' look.
-The suntan is applied on all units (no scripting).
-Slightly rescaled upper bodies and arms to a less beefy look.
-Improved LOD
-New model: Sniper (with an unshaved dirty look) 75% complete
-New model: Regular (desert flak jacket and bergen) 50% complete

I will post pictures soon.
Title: Re:UK Desert troops
Post by: MadAussie on 26 May 2004, 16:53:46
Gday all..

Sounds great mate...
I think blackout feature can be added in mission editor to 'other' units anyway.. Is this right??

Maybe a plain t-shirt and camo pants without webbing.. like an off duty soldier.. that would be good for missions.. wouldnt worry about multiple  loadouts (only basic sidearm).. can do it in mission editor and provide weapon crates too

What do you think?

Nice pics! Yes, the weapons are of top quality so I will definately make a reference to P:UKF weapons in the next release (a real timesaver!). I will however add a sand-camo L96 Sniper rifle (under progress).

Looong time no see, people. Been busy as a beaver working on version 1.0.
Just wanted to share some new info and lifesigns...
Every unit now has an option to roll down their sleeves for people not liking the weird wrist issue (floating and stretched). I've done a serious workaround based on Ebud's wristmodels and the problem IS fixed but itÂ's virtually impossible to make it perfect. If you don't follow, picture yourself a shapable balloon, twist it by the middle and you get the bottleneck effect...

Animated goggles for everyone.
The sniper model is coming along nicely.
I've added two new classes: UK Sniper (rnd.), UK Soldier (rnd.).
They're the only scripted units in the pack (Init handler) and will grant you an automated randomised appearance unit choosing from these variables:

Hat / No Hat --- boonie
Hair / No Hair --- adds extra hair volume if No Hat option is chosen
(if Hair is chosen : RED, BROWN or BLONDE)
Bergen / No Bergen
Elbow pad / No Elbow pad --- Not very regular but this is a game, right?
Knee pad / No Knee pad ---  (see the above)
Long sleeve / Short sleeve
Headset / No Headset
Gasmaskpouch / No gasmaskpouch

...and finally some progress pics...
Thanx for your patience, guys!  :P

Randomized appearence now looks like this:

AI options (these are ON/OFF) types triggered randomly & separately

Headset
Shemagh
Boonie
Longsleeves
Bergen (patrol pack)
Gasmask pouch
Extra dirt on face
Suntan

Player options (these are ON/OFF) types triggered randomly & separately

Shemagh
Boonie *
Headset *
Longsleeves
Bergen (patrol pack)
Gasmask pouch
Extra dirt on face
Suntan

*Boonie and headset looks crappy while in 1st person view inside vehicles. However, there are units that comes equipped with it by default, thus removing the bug.

I'm in desperate need of BETA testers to check these things prior to release:

1. Scripts handling in MP
2. LOD
3. Other glitches missed by this poor sod...

Thanx/BB

Excellent work as always mate.

Really looking forward to these to compliment the UKF ones.

Give Kooky from VCB a nudge about BETA'ing, especially MP stuff.

We've been doing some work for UKF and FLK so we may be able to help. :)
