Title: Support Personnel and objects
Post by: R.Y.A.N. on 29 Jul 2003, 20:00:30
How about some support personnel and related static objects?

For example: Army mechanics. They'd be wearing fatigue shirts or even t-shirts, sleeves rolled up, etc., with greasy, dirty arms and hands, and oil stains on their clothes. they would need tools and similar things, so maybe jerry cans of gas (which could explode like a grenade if shot?), large roll-away tool chests, small portable tool boxes, floor jacks, a workbech with a vise and tools on it, etc, could be modelled. I suggest this because I have several missions where supposedly repairs are being done to some machine of war or other, and it looks pretty unbeleiveable, what with this guy carrying a rifle instead of a jack handle wanders back and forth between a 'broken' Ural and a repair truck. The mechanics could be armed with a pistol for defense. this addition would be a big help, in my opinion: wouldn't it add another dimension to your Black Ops missions, if you were to run into a hangar to blow up a plane, only to find it's being worked on by a mechanic?

yeah its a cool idea, maybe they could be civilian versions, making the more moral player thing whether or not to blow the objects up etc.

Yeah the guys on 88's have M4's they are just like the .50 cal and MK 19 for others,  they are a crew served weapon.  And also they are supposed to have M9's.

Bigdog you did read it right, but i should let you know that since i got out over a year ago things may have changed but it used to be 88's and tankers that had the M4 as crew served weapons.  I being a scout it was just a primary weapon while not on the truck or Brad.  I think it was kinda dumb and since we didnt have all that many M4's everybody was fighting over them all the time.  I cant remember what the documentation was that i used to figure it all out was but if i thought long and hard enough it would eventually come to me.

I appreciate that the soldiers who perform mechanical duties are first and foremost soldiers and carry standard assault rifles, I'm just thinking that while 'on a job' they wouldn't normally have their assault rifle slung over their shoulder. I was thinking that a sidearm would be a compromise between them not carrying a rifle and being able to defend themselves. A small concession to playability, is what I had in mind. I would surely like to have East/West/Civilian mechanics and related static objects.

maybe an "invisible" M4 would be in order? just so you wouldn't see it slung over their shoulder.

back in 96 each crewmember was issued one at least in my unit

we were always coming up short in our budget for parts but we had plenty of guns when our stuff broke down i guess

Bigdog, we neither had the budget or enough weapons for each.  But thats what happens when you get the Riley shaft..
