Title: Problem uploading mission
Post by: alimag on 27 Nov 2003, 23:31:10
Hi,

I'm not sure I'm in the right section of the forum but I'll ask my question here.

I received an error message after uploading a mission (all the 4/5 steps) and when I tried to test the download the link did not work.

Is there a problem actually and I should wait later to upload it again or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance for your answers
Cheers
AliMag

Hi,

It's me again.

I just realized that I've created 2 empty entries in the pending missions section.

Please could someone delete the entries. For some reason they are both without the zip file so useless.

I'll try to upload the mission another time.

Sorry for the trouble

Hi Alimag.

I deleted the the other submission, the one you made first with no links to external addons.
The second submission I only marked as faulty, because it looked fine to me, other than the missing file. I left it there because you should be able to 'replace' the missing file with a new one. In this case replace the database entry with an actual working one.
This way you won't have to write down the overview and links to addons again. A few simple clicks should do it.

Here are the instructions to modify your submission entry:

I would have put this to the 'mission depot comments / questions'  ;)

Hi Artak,

Thanks for answering.

I dont think my procedure is at fault.
When I replace the file it takes a certain time like the file is being uploaded and it shows the new name but the size is still 0k.
The update button just refresh the screen and that's it.

I just tried like 10 times...

It's like it refuses my file. Why? I dont know.
There was no problem with the picture files and the zip was uploaded at other sites without any problem...

Mistery, mistery, mistery...

Thanks anyway for your reply
Cheers

Hmm.. This is where the problem gets technical and I don't have the means to dig up the answer.
We've been having some problems with the downloadins, but I don't think it's related to this here.

We'd need someone like HuBBa, Toadlife or Anmac in here to get down with this problem.

Alimag,

Are you using some type of firewall software? It's possible your problem is related to this (http://www.ofpec.com/nolinking.php?display=help).

I did a test upload of a small mission (feel free to delete this (http://www.ofpec.com/missions_depot/index.php?ID=836) mission Artak), and everything went fine.

Can you give us some more details, like browser version, and maybe a screenshot of the error you are getting?

The problem seems to be size related.

I just made a few test and any small file is uploaded correctly (whatever the type) but the 2.3 M zip file cannot be uploaded for some reason.

Is 2.3 M to big to be uploaded?

toadlife, when you have the time, please try to upload a bigger file (2.3 M or more) to see what happens.

I appreciate your efforts

When the file is that big it will time out if you don't ahve a really fast upload speed. Even broadband users ususally have slow upload speeds, so I suspect this is what is happening. We have an FTP option of uploading files, and I would suggest trying the FTP method for submitting your mission. IF you upload via FTP, the transfer will not time out like it does with the web interface.

Thanks toadlife,

I may sound stupid but how do you use the FTP transfer?

Thanks in advance

I'm getting upload errors too all my info is there but no mission .zip.
I tried to dowload a mission too, and again I got errors. I went to the firewall bit but I don't know what firewall I have or where to find it.
Why did you change the old way? It was all good. Ever heard of the phrase, "If it aint broke, don't fix it"?

It was changed to stop people from remote-linking (hotlinking) directly to files on OFPEC and hence leeching our bandwidth unneccessarily.

Is it working now?

@toadlife
I'm asking because after installing the ftp client that you gave me (filezilla) and trying to connect I received this messages after being connected:

Error:   Timeout detected!
Error:   Could not retrieve directory listing
