Title: How hard is it?
Post by: Blacknite on 27 Sep 2009, 05:09:54
How hard is it to make an addon really?  Cuz I would like to see a mod for a Command and Conquer style, but if nobody going to work on it, I might as well maybe.  So how hard is it?

I'd say it's very hard. Maybe you should contact these guys (http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Tiberian_Genesis_Mod) first... :)

Well, it takes some weeks to learn how a config / material etc. works in ArmA.

But even, when you have a complete model, import and bugfixing can take some months (the RAH-66, which I imported from OFP, took me 3 months. The resulting quality is somwhere in between OFP and ArmA1, so it may take about 2 more months to make it A2-quality...).

So I calculate 3+ months for a tank/chopper import, about 1 month for an infantry weapon.

Another way to look at it, if you ever dabbled in 90s games, is to think of Resedit for Escape Velocity.  Your next step is to recognize that A2 is absolutely nothing like it.  (I went through the same humbling epiphany, and have accepted my place as a lamb among wolves in the editing world!)
