Try reading the read me!

with the cargo version i have found you can still get in the back as cargo, problem is the seats r up and u just float there? think ya should remove the cargo positions in the back for the cargo version, or maybe lower a few seats so ppl just dont hover and also leaves room for jeeps ect

some issues i need to tell BAS

- Handling of chook with mouse - totally diabolical, i can hardly turn the thing.

- Cargo chook - i cant seem to drive jeeps in, they just get stuck in the doorway - tried it with the kawasaki, same problem

- Minigun - cant see it in 'V' mode - and it has hardly any movement vertically, cant shoot for shit below me, and its nice to be able to see down the barrel of the weapon.

Questions

- What is the command to lower the ramp - as in the sythax so i can make ai do it.

- Are folding rotors possible? im pretty sure they are foldable in RL (deff for the LB) and i was wondering if it is possible to implement this? althoygh would look dumb if they are folded and the engine is switched on.

love the model - is freaking amazing. probally one of the most interesting and wee detailed models. Good Job.

I think messiah has covered what i was gonna ask, hopefully will all be fixed in version 1.1, but on the whole its a great chopper.

Was i dreaming or did i see on the news once SOAR MH47 operating in Afghanistan with a minigun on the back of the ramp?

Hi people.. fist of all I would like to thank BAS for this superb chopper it is fantastic however nobody is perfect.. so there are a few things i like to mention.

1. I was thinking about the air to air refuel tube made so it can be controled by the action menu like the ramp is so it dosnt get in the way so when we RSF fly in close formation it dont get in the way  ;) ;D but also when ya trying to do a fast insertion into a small area so it dosnt get in the way......
2. if you are playing by the keyboard and you are trying to do a turn it takes to long as i think it has been mentioned

apart from that the choppa in my eyes is excellent and can not wait for further releases by BAS and deadmeats BAS pavehawk etc etc etc

p.s its good to have a guy like deadmeat in ya clan  ;D

Yeah this thing friggin kicks ass, thanks for releasing it.......finally ;D

Like everyone else said it is near perfection and the detail is awesome.  The only small thing i noticed, that hasnt been mentioned, is that when you target it or tell ai to board it its listed as a CH-47D.

Cant wait for the Marine helos, an inside source told me you would be devoting most of your efforts to those now :D

Same as the rest + when I changed the CH-47 in one of my missions to a MH-47 it decided to circle the landing point around 15 times before deciding to land.

ok, answers for you:

Quote
- Handling of chook with mouse - totally diabolical, i can hardly turn the thing.

all i can say is  :-[ sorry, i, and all the team members have been testing the helo with a joystick, so many apologies there...

Quote
- Cargo chook - i cant seem to drive jeeps in, they just get stuck in the doorway - tried it with the kawasaki, same problem

urm... that seems to be a version problem - what version of ofp are you running, it works fine on 1.91, but not on 1.90...

Quote
- Minigun - cant see it in 'V' mode - and it has hardly any movement vertically, cant shoot for sh*t below me, and its nice to be able to see down the barrel of the weapon

the aiming needs to be looked at...

Quote
- Are folding rotors possible? im pretty sure they are foldable in RL (deff for the LB) and i was wondering if it is possible to implement this? althoygh would look dumb if they are folded and the engine is switched on.

probably, but why bother? yes it looks good for cutscenes, but it is a bit of "pointless eyecandy"...

you still drunk cplme? your not making much sense man, the fuelprobe is either there or not, it is removed on the ground, by engineers, so that would be a p3d change...

hmmmm, this was an issue we though we had solved in beta testing.... what speed have you got the helo approaching the landing zone at?

ok so dont answer my question then lol, plus im using 1.91 and i cant get stuff in the back of it, also i can fly it fine with mouse and keyboard thats all i ever use, its a bit heavy yes but its flyable and what i expected with summit that big

i have version 1.90 - not getting 1.91 - is there any point?

i still have hell flying the chopper - its too unresponsive - fine, its heavy, but at least let it suit for ofp

Very nice I must say. Two small things bothers me though: there is no light flash for the searchlight (the bright white circle that appears when you put lights on), and M134 ammo belt's texture is a bit crappy when compared to other textures. Superb work nevertheless ;D.

And yes it's quite hard to fly with mouse only, but with keyboard+mouse combo it's quite easy to control :).

About falling through a moving chopper, i've found out something neat.

While experimenting with setpos commands on a chopper with the special set to flying, I managed to get several units inside this MH47.
So you say: "So what? Anyone can do that."
Well, I have this tidbit:
I told the MH47 to go somewhere(Waypoint) and a ran forward toward the cockpit. I managed to stay on until it started to nose down a little to far, then I went through the cockpit and was standing on top of it.
It seems that when its moving, you slide towards the back and through a part of the model that isn't as "solid" as the cockpit area.

BTW, nice MH47.

Still can't find v1.91, I was under the Impression that you could Move around inside the MH47 with out scripts as it said in Tigershark's "stop the spam" speech on the BAS site, I'm having a very hard time with that. other than that it's very good, great model, textures, everything. good work, just ya know...  ;)

Just grabbed the monster & here's the feed'.

First off, though, a hint to mezzy & all other MOUSE (non-joystick) pilots out there:

---------------------------------------------

some issues i need to tell BAS

- Handling of chook with mouse - totally diabolical, i can hardly turn the thing....

==================

:o :D Mezzy, m'man, all ya need 2 do (when mouse steering a big 'bayard' like the MH-47E) is to
let go of the mouse and use the arrow-keys for hard turns!

Mouse-EXAMPLE :

Im going max speed - suddenly I need to make a quick turn, so whadda I do?  ???

I hold my (right hand) mouse still while hitting the LEFT arrow key to turn;
also, I hit the BACK arrow key (only a gentle touch) to brake faster while turning;

Then I press the FORWARD key when the turn is almost done + press the RIGHT arrow key
to get back in control of the big mama.

:o Sounds odd, but it sticks EVERYTIME  8) ;) :-*

The default CH-47D is handled the same way, neah probby there, m8  :)

No need to alter the steering for this birdie, bassyboys!

========================

Right. My own feedback then:

uuuum, its a fantastic chopper - no bugs found (except p'haps for the "missing" gunner optics).
Like said above: maybe the gunner should have a  view closer down to the barrel?!

Apart from this, no bugs in my tests so far.  8)

Sweat on, bas - we love it.

Tombster

in the non-cargo version, you should be able to run inside and then have an action toi select that will let you sit in the cargo area. this would be a good quick way to simulate an extraction, by having the team run inthe back while covering fire, then while in the cover of the helo, sit down by selecting "get in MH47 ride in back" and then have it take off. As is, you can only get in the thing by standing outside on the starboard sideand trying to find the sweet spot

The Trick to staying in the chopper when it's in the air without falling through is to keep moving around in it, dont stand still. Walk, run, kneel, just keep moving. Therefore keeping you inside the chopper, same rule applies for vehicles. As for staying in it while its flying around crazy...thats yet to be discovered ;)

Also, Jeeps and bikes can get past that little problem up the ramp, by simply closing the ramp when you have driven the vehicle up as far as it can go, the ramp will push the rest in for you.

Yet, awesome Addon, BAS. Very good work  ;D

great work BAS guys  :)

although there could be a little texture update and general finetunes on that minigun.
but i dont really mind that, its still a terrific addon anyways.

one more bug, iÂ've found: when you fly below 38 or something metres, the altitude- meter sometimes shows -1m or -2m.
oh and the windows wont break if the chopper takes damage.

anyways: thanks for spending so much time to give us such great addons, BAS team :)

1) Still can't find v1.91,

2) I was under the Impression that you could Move around inside the MH47 with out scripts...

====================

1) try:    www.flashpoint1985.com  ;) (look under downloads)
              if not there, then its because the patch is a BETA patch;
then it's avaliable through the BIS forums I suppose.

But really, SCREW 1.91 - it's causes crashes (as mentioned above!)
You don't need 1.91 to ride this bird. (im using it in 1.90 myself)

              The MH-47E won't crash yer game - patch 1.91 might, though!!!  ::)

2.)      :) Only if its on ground or steady in air (auto-hoover or alike), as far as I know.

----------------------------------------------

 P.S.

 uuuum, I forgot the ps. dayum!  >:( ::) ....

....oh yeah --- jeeps!  It seems the best jeep to use in cargo is the hummer;
this vehicle fills out the whole back of the MH-47E, so it wont start to shake etc.  8)

What could be the matter?

Title: Re:BAS MH47 released

well the Hummer isn't meant to go in the back of the MH-47, it doesn't fit in real life, and as you said, only just fits, with bits of the models overlapping ingame...

@Viking - it is probably the custom animations causing the problem, get patch 1.90 from the BIS site
Title: Re:BAS MH47 released
Post by: Messiah on 03 Jan 2003, 16:13:07
sorry - just re read my post - sounds harsh

the model is fantastic - very detailed and brilliant textures - brilliant eye candy - its just the actual handling that bothers me.

one point, the sound, AWESOME - the fact u can hear this puppy roaring from miles off is brilliant - i was once camping in the peak distict and, no joke, about 15 of these came right over head at low level - u cud here them coming for ages, didnt know what it was, but then they came and jeeeze it was loud. - drove after them and them and got to the old firing range the MOD has up there - we sat in my car watching these royal marines rapel out of 15 of these things - great sight.

Tomb - i can fly the normal chook fine with the mouse, so why should it be any diff with this one.

well done though - great addon.

also, jeep doesnt fit still - gets stuck - going to get 1.91 now to see if it works better.

I noticed another wee buggy....

Theres some sort of sensor pod on the left hand side of the cockpit....When you look at this through the rotor blades it disapears randomly..

Also the textures on the cargo ramp are stretched (not actually the ramp....where the ramp covers when its upright....hard to explain

||   =  Ramp in closed posistion
|/   = Open

|/     its the bit on the righthand side of the left line...)

But part from these points and the ones mentioned, sublime! Truely sublime....

Whats the poly count btw? coz it tends to give lag when theres 2 or 3 in the same shot for me....could be my lame comp though

Vyper
Title: Re:BAS MH47 released
Post by: DeadMeatXM2 on 03 Jan 2003, 16:34:25
the poly count is up in the 4500, so it will lag (that is annother reason we have only released the addon for RES, as people with res often have more powerful comps)

I know which textures you mean Vyper, and they will be sorted in v1.1

really like the bird ....but is anyone else getting the altimeter problem like me.

if i climb above 11 on the altimeter scale(dont know what they use for a scale..same on speed) the altitude markings either go to 0, -1 or it jumps back and forth.

Title: Re:BAS MH47 released
Post by: Snake on 03 Jan 2003, 21:38:51
the alt meter thingy is because of the roadway set up thingy in the back of the MH-47E that lets u drive things inside of it and walk into it.....

Well, all that sitting on the BAS site clicking refresh every twenty seconds finally worked for me, so I guess I'm just chuffed to be using all my pre-release excitement on using this beauty  :)

I've only noticed two slight problems with the MH, one of which I told Dead about personally (the winch housing struts projecting into the interior). The only thing I can complain about is the minigun aiming, but then again my missing every shot might have been cplme's crappy flying or my lack of air gunnery skills, since Dead managed to rack up a score sheet that looked like a tax invoice when he got his mitts on it  ;D

I thinks this is on a par, if not better than the A/MH-6J pack, and the faults people are bringing up are very minor, like textures or lack of the searchlight's "flash" (although to be honest I could swear that it had flash when we were beasting it around Nogova). I think that it handles much better than I expected, looking at the size of the monster. And the fact that cplme had the nose at 60 degrees to the ground circle-strafing over some stray UAZs this morning kind of proves that it'll do whatever the pilot asks of it. Plus it sounds the dog's dangly bits, i could hear it thwopping towards me when I was four and a half k's away!

Well, all that sitting on the BAS site clicking refresh every twenty seconds

Haha, I know what youre talking about!

While I was playing around with the MH-47 I thought of two things:

1.  I remember the chinooks (maybe every chopper) used to be able to land in the water without being destroyed but BIS changed this.  Well it would be really cool if you could give back this ability to the MH-47.  Just imagine driving a zodiac boat into the back when you get that script of yours working.  I doubt you can do this anymore since its a probably game engine issue, but just thought Id mention it.

2.  I have always been a big fan of RonaldV's Chinook Rope Addon/Script but I found it doesnt work with your MH-47 :( (or the Nam pack chinook for that matter).  Think you guys could do an updated version of this script that works with your chopper please?  The script was very realistic (as good as you can do with OFPs engine i think) and one of the most crucial abilities of the chinook is being able to sling load stuff.

Well I just wanted to give you these two ideas, since noone else has mentioned them :)

thanks for the support lads  :D

well Mr Thundermaker...

annother thing we did manage to do on our little mp jolly was to dunk this bird in the water! So with a little clever scripting it could be possible!

We will have to look into underslung loads, i expect that it will be a feature in further releases, as our main priorities are to get the bugs that are appernt atm fixed...

That back ramp thing is damn amzing!

They just run up there under fire....i managed to make a beautifull moment

My team ran onto the chinook, troops coming from the south as the bird pointed north so i put slow walk (aim mode) on and just walked foward from the cockpit picking the enemy off as the bird lifted off........ofcourse as soon as i stopped moving i fell to my death, but still!

Ahh, the nagging bi**ch woke up in me. I didn't wan't it to happen but what can I...  ::)

Is the altitude-meter-fixing script Deadmeat mentioned gona be in the addon or wha huh? I'd be apalled if the user had to do something... I'm thinking ofcourse from the scripters point of view. I was fiddling with the usual helo insertion, and stumbled on the height of this monster, it being ~ -1.1 when it was 47 with the BIS chinook at the start. That's pretty hard to come by, I did, but it doubled the work.

I'd leave the whole cargo version out ofcourse, if it's not usable in -->OFP  ;D then what the hell is it here for?!

Have to confess the quality is suberb otherwise. I love to make its arse scratch the surface on landings... and make it land without turning or missing WPs /me coughs ... /me coughs some more ... /me gets a heart attack[/size]

@Mi_fred I am appauled at you for being so naggy deadmeat is in my clan one of the Joint commanding officers along with me and kooky and he misses training sometimes cos he so busy all the time working on the choppers for BAS so dont be apauled I am sure the BAS team are doing all their best to fufill your dreams in OFP ;D
Just remember the work they do comes out their owntime the stuff they have to pay for (website) which aint cheap comes out of their own money so please be patient while the BAS team are doing they harderst as I know thru deadmeat. Deadmeat can not be nagged at for reasons like that.

BTW the thing with the altiude meter is not  BAS bug as it does it with the Seb NAM choppers aswell it's to do with the opening doors.
Also if you would of read all the posts on this topic it was mentioned a few times already.

lol - BAS didnt pay for the website - see, Tigershark lives in Japan and he had set up a website descibing life in Tokyo and places to go...

www.concept-5.com

so, to add ballistics hasnt cost him any money - unless he went overbudget on the bandwidth

and for you oldies out there (me at least) the original original forum (before this one and before the one before that) was hosted on his site - this is when the community was 300 people... aaah, those were the days.

good luck BAS - and TS, how did my model go? did it work in O2 ok?

lol messy...

anyhow - we have been getting a lot of mails about the getpos/setpos issues with the MH-47, the way to solve this is to get the height data from the pilot, that way you can play around with scripts all you like.

here is a little example of how to do it:

Quote
(GetPos driver this select 0)

Quote
(SetPos driver this select 0)+/- whatever you want...

We may contact the authors of the best scripts and ask them if we can include modified versions in the mh-47 pbo...

BTW the thing with the altiude meter is not  BAS bug as it does it with the Seb NAM choppers aswell it's to do with the opening doors.
Also if you would of read all the posts on this topic it was mentioned a few times already.

Nah bare with me Cplme.
Oh, also the seb ones. Alright it's not a biggie since it can be avoided with extra work. And I did read the previous posts for once, but didn't think they articulated the scripters point of view. If the doors and such are worth the extra work from the maker as they sure are great, why not tolerate some extra scripting.

DeadMeat, I did try it that way, didn't seem to work... I just move a gamelogic along set at (the helo's supposed height ) + the helo's initial height, which is it's true position. It's still very inconvenient.

/me shuts the nagging channel.  :-X

Going back onto the manouverabiltiy of the chopper... do most of you play by keyboard or Joystick? I bought my self a joystick for myself yesterday and when I got home decided to start playing  with it on various choppers and planes and since the MH was only resonality released i practise that and could perform a fast insertion at 56 knots.
So apart from the samm thigns i could find and have already been mentioned everything is fine.

i use the mouse - never use the keyboard unless im doing precision landings (autohover and use WASD and XC to manouver.

Well, I've been trying numerous joysticks - also the expensive ones - but for some reason, I never ever
got used to them.... mouse & keys are alot more challenging I think.

can't really explain why though?!  ??? :) guess it's a matter of habituation, or i dunno  :P

I think it flies fine, it's a big ole beast and it can take a while to respond but you've just got to bear that in mind - the first time I tried the demo mission I flew into the mountain cos it didn't climb as fast as I expected, then the 2nd time I came into the LZ too fast and crashed into a house, but I just put it down to needing more practise - been a while since I flew any choppers  ;)

yeah but lilty are you a pilot mate no your a bullet stopper   ;D if i can bring the thing down at 48 mph and land with out dammaging any part of the chopper and then take of by under shilka fire and just take a few hits (3 or 4 and it is a big beast aint it) then i must be the best pilot that exist in OFP hehehehehehehe  ::) ;D 8) :joystick: :toocool:
Title: Re:BAS MH47 released
Post by: Eviscerator on 07 Jan 2003, 16:23:30
heh Cplme youve gone from going 56 knots to 46mph, ofp actually uses kph so unless you have a supercomputer for a brain you are only going 46kph and 56kph
Title: Re:BAS MH47 released
Post by: Cplme on 07 Jan 2003, 17:18:52
lol you all know what i mean it was some fast speed anyway.... and yeah i got a super fast computer but you if you ever go play mp on ofp.nz they will tell you how gud i am as a pilot taking shilka rounds from 2 shilkas pulling thru it without any dammage and brining in the troops savely so they can get the job done and still give em covering fire while under fire.. hehehehehehehehehee  ::)

Lol, I'm pretty good at stopping bullets, I got pretty good at flying choppers when I tried making my own mission, flying about picking out a good spot for it - which was incidentally the reason I decided to start making addons cos I had Bibmi's original Marines and there wasn't any other Brit kit about. I'm pretty good at driving vehicles now after all the testing I've been doing, incidentally the 110 just about fits in the back of the MH-47, it bounces about a bit when the roof touches, but the armed Wolf, being lower, should slip in a treat (Matron  ;))

Post by: DeadMeatXM2 on 07 Jan 2003, 18:08:40
lol, yes indeedy the wolf fits (all landrovers will fit, with v1.1 - because all landrovers fit irl...and the bit of fire geom that causes the problem has been removed)
Title: Re:BAS MH47 released
Post by: Messiah on 07 Jan 2003, 19:33:29
lol - i once landed it at 56, and also had a good deal of lateral speed going on - touched down and the thing flipped upside down - jumped out, ran to the back and openend the ramp and hid inside as the bird came under a barrage of machine gun fire - shot the ruskies through the windows - was a great laff  ;D

Blimey, the more I play with this baby the more I love it! The minigun is great for rooting out that b*stard sniper who refuses to stop killing the ground troops, and the heli handles like a flying truck...  :D
Now I'm really excited about the MH60s  :)

If you want a laugh, find a nice cliff, whack a ramp on it, get someone to hover a MH47 with the ramp open nearby, then get on the KLR250 and see if you can jump in the back  ;) Of course I seem to die messily a lot of the time, but maybe I'll be able to pull it off when we get our hands on the script to let us move around inside   ;D

Now heres the king chopper pilot showing of with his tricks/ Try to fly under Nogovas bridge between davle and east davle with a joystick at 120 kph then come in on a fast water level hover. tell your grunts to get out and watch em die then also try to fly a tomcat under it upside down then you can tell me your as good as me.. sorry i had to say that cos I am really proud of my OFP flying.

Anyway Deadmeat cant wait for 1.1 of the mh47 cos if it does work what you say it suppose to do, I'll tell kooky to give ya a BJ.  :P ;) ;D  hehehehehehe

Cplme out to you

Are you guys goint to implement DKM's new chopper dust thingy for the next MH-47 and all the other choppers BAS has planned?  Thatd be great
(or if youre concerned for the computers that cant handle it, 2 different versions?)
Anyways great work none the less
Title: Re:BAS MH47 released
Post by: Eviscerator on 17 Jan 2003, 02:13:40
no, we already have a script like that but needs much less cpu power to use it, the DKM Dust thing has been around a long time, they are just the first to release it as an addon, weve had it on the MH-47E for a while now
Title: Re:BAS MH47 released
Post by: Messiah on 17 Jan 2003, 18:13:34
after speaking with deadmeat - they are gonna use a modified version of Vektorboson's dust script

this script is awesome on its own, so intergrated with the BAS choppers it shhud be amazing.

also he promised us some 'secret extras' - ive been on his case about them, but no luck for poor ickle mezzy  :'(

Hey peepz,
Since the BAS guys said that the MH-47 is back in betatesting, does that mean that the new features are actually working (walking around in flying helo and rappelling)?? That would be sooooooooooo awesome, although they already are. BAS rulez.
