Title: The BUGS thread
Post by: snYpir on 21 Aug 2002, 08:42:08
Please post forum bugs here. I will get round to fixing them all eventually ::)

Keep your description short, concise and to the point.

Bugs:

Mods yet to be installed:

Weird forum errors:

Feel free to reply with bug reports. Please, don't start discussions in this thread! The number of things i have to do is growing exponentially, and it is confusing when people are posting bug reports all over the place :-\

Cheers! :-*

  Hey all,

I appear to have a hit and miss bug goin on here.  Sometimes when I log in it will let me no problem.  Then other times when I log in it will say hello Yankeetanker and then when I try to access anything it will go to the 'log in screen again' and say hello guest.  I will log in again and it will let me to the appropriate link and then I will try another link and will have to log in again with the same results...most of the time it will not access the link and that is when I am trying to access something that I actually have access to.... any ideas.

It's a really frustrating thing and has kept me from posting anything for the last few days.

I need back up here... I feel obliged to try and help but I am not being allowed to....whats the deal.

  Yankeetanker.

Hey Yank...    I had that problem after I registered.  The best solution is to, when you login in, select the box to keep you logged in.  The close the browser and come back to the site.  You should find yourself now permanently logged in, and wont have to enter your details after every page change.

Try upgrading to IE 6.0. That seems to fix most of the log-in problems.

hmmmmm

didnt seem to help for me  - i have XP and it still logs out (XP is 6.0 as standard)

Change your security settings, lower them to get IE to accept cookies.

This is normal, because sometimes PHP needs certain information from your browser. If you hit the back button sometimes the information can't be sent, and you get that screen.

If you look at the following image:

you can see the 'solve' button at the top right hand corner of the message. If you start a thread, you should see that button. If you don't then there is a problem....

Messiah and co,

Another thought would be to see where your security levels in IE are set, in particular the cookies level.

If you don't allow cookies to be created, you don't stay logged into the forums.

Failing that, reinstate all the defaults for your browser and see if that helps as well.

And as snYpir so wisely states "Upgrade to IE6.0!"

Enjoy. :)

Hey there snYpir and all!   ;D

I've noticed that often the "new posts" gif doesn't load for all of the new posts..

http://www.ofpec.com/yabbse/YaBBImages/on.gif

was the link or address attached to the missing pic, I think.

Anyone else see this?  A simple refresh fixes it, but these don't load for me often enough to notice it a lot..   :P

BTW, excellent changes to the forum!  I miss my Avatar, but understand why they are gone!   ;)   :D

'heloooooo..... im lost..... im not sure where i am.... or how to get back'

well.... my impression of homer simpson when he gets lost in that 3d place...

basically the profile section - as soon as u eneter it you cant get out - as in theres no link to the forums (or not that i can see) - and if you have changed your profile then pressing 'BACK' isnt the best solution.

Hey!  Thanks snYpir!

****crosses fingers and toes and hopes for the avatars*****
(really, look over there < by my name < it's all empty and blank and stuff..)   ;)
 ;D

I just wanted to let you know that the same thing is happening for various other gif's around the forum...  ie the pics that show if it's a hot topic, sticky topic and so on..

Also, the reply buttons for the PM's or IM's or whatever they are called.   ;)

Hope this helps, I work in tech support and know that the first step of fixing computer probs is identifying them!

this is what i meant in my first post, about 'wird forum errors' ;) i was uploading a new version of english.lng at the exact moment you tried to access a page. Don't worry, as soon as it finished uploading it'll work.

Asmodeus - thanks mate! :) i'll get there eventually.

I got a good one.  Can someone tickthe box that says "Show message you are replying to" in the Private mEssager options?

For the PM addicts amoung us, I liked being able to read the PM I was replying to below my message I was typing.  Now I have to open a second window and have the old message in one, and the new message in the other so I can properly referance it.

So please, show the message uinder the PMs.  :-*

Post by: Marksman on 31 Aug 2002, 20:21:25
@icarus - you already can get an email sent to you when you get new PM's

Go into the Instant Messaging section, you know, the link you click on where it says:

Hey, icarus, you have X messages (http://X messages), Y are new

then click on the Preferences button

Then scroll down and theres a drop down list, saying something like "Notify by email". Just change it from No, to Yes, and save.

Works perfectly for me

Hey there snYpir ... I placed an ad in the training depot couple a days ago.. and went to edit it today when I thought of some new info.... tried to load my edit and got this message:

Warning: Bad arguments to implode() in /usr/local/www/html/training/index.php on line 21

This bug is probably IE5.5 releated but I thought I should report it.

When logging in using IE5.5 browser I get Username doesn't exist and it shows the unsername and password I typed in, but I can access it on aol's browser okay.

2nd bug (not sure if it's a bug with the forum or not) I was on one of those fancy sites which use the dissolve effects when you click on a link, the then brought up ofpec forums after veiwing that page and it kept the same dissolve effects when clicking on links in the forum. (looked pretty cool though :) )
Title: Re:The BUGS thread
Post by: Kaliyuga on 17 Sep 2002, 00:43:19
Not a serious Bug, but something noteworthy I thought...

there used to be a cap on the number of IMs you could have in the in/out boxes.. seems this is non existent after the remodel...   I let mine get to around 50 something before deleting them  :o ... (which is another thing... can you bring back the ability to delete individual IM's, not just all or nothing)

The thing that happened to me that was sort of buggy was that after a few lengthy IM's to my fellow mod members, my outbox is too full for me to look at now... I always time out .. thanks to my 56k modem ... so .. there should be a cap again to make a long post short.. LOL ;D
Plus If everyone had 50+ IM's in their in/out boxes I'd imagine that's a nice chunk of storage space there

Title: Re:The BUGS thread
Post by: snYpir on 17 Sep 2002, 05:41:06

Intruder - This new board seems to like IE 6.0, so perhaps u could try upgrading?

Kaliyuga - Yes, i know the current IM system sucks :-\

There is no replacement for the standard YaBB SE messaging system out yet... i'll go have another look though.

Bear with it for the moment, eventually it'll be modded to something better. Thanks for the feedback though.

Post by: Artak on 18 Sep 2002, 21:19:58
After I've removed all my cookies and temporary files the 'always logged' thingy doesn't work. So

YaBB still sends cookies, right?
Title: Re:The BUGS thread
Post by: snYpir on 19 Sep 2002, 06:49:48
clarifying cookies:

a 'cookie' is a file that is stored on your computer, just like any other file, that this site uses to store information about you.

the whole site uses a single cookie, or a single file in other words, and the forum simply writes a number of values to that file.

It writes your username, your password (heavily encrypted of course) and the time that the cookie expires.

When you log onto the board, the code checks to makes sure the username and password match a username and password on the database, and that the current time is smaller than the expire time.

If all this checks out, you are allowed to access the board. If not, you need to log in again.

If you click the 'never expire' checkbox, the cookie's expire time is set to about a year in advance.

My point here is that cookie problems are not the fault of the board. The code is sound - i have checked it. Make sure that your browser does not have really high security settings set (that is clearing cookies or something).

There is really nothing else I can suggest :-\ Cookies are really the only way to save information on your computer, to prevent you from having to re-log in every time you reload a page.
Title: Re:The BUGS thread
Post by: Artak on 19 Sep 2002, 18:04:05
I've got the cookie here right beside me. Don't know what's wrong. My security *cough* settings are *mumble* really small.  ::)

Oh well. I'm sure this will be sorted out by a quick reinstall of Windows  :P ;D

Hey snYpir!!

I was posting on my beta thread, Op F.T.F. and it posted it, but didn't load the page completely and gave me this error:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /usr/local/www/html/yabbse/Sources/Subs.php on line 929

Now, this thread has very large replies... So does that cause this error or is it something else??

I can't view that thread still, it times out when I try to go there...  (I'm on a 56K connection..   :'()

http://www.ofpec.com/yabbse/index.php?board=23;action=display;threadid=1790;start=0;boardseen=1

Thanks for any help/suggestions you can provide!   :-*   ;D

P.S.  Another thing I just noticed...

On any news post, if you click on it to read the details, the date shows up as so:

01.01.1970 12:59:59 am Missions Depot - Missions Upload Facility Goes Live in One Hour!

LOL!!  We're back in the 70's!   :o  Oh no!  Disco and bell-bottoms!   :o   ::)   :P

But yeah, I wasn't sure if you knew about that one too..   ;)

This means that PHP cannot execute the commands on that page within the given maximum time period (30 secs). This will happen if the server is getting swamped, which is happening more and more often.

New server hardware is in the mail right now, and it will improve server speed so it is capable of handling every request. so wait out for that.

Strange thing is, I did fill in the subject field..

And here's the message i was trying to post:

It aint really a bug, but more something i noticed.. It is wrong, so I thought to post it here..
You remember the pic of the resistance cover (left under of site), wich functions as a link to codemasters, so you can buy res? Well, now there's a pic of the playstation2 game POW..
Havent tried clicking it, for I dont want pow, and res I already have

Something must've gotten screwed up in the style sheets for the Editors Depot section. When I visit your site with Mozilla, all other sections look good except for this one:

Hi,

I just saw there is a bug rthread so I am re posting here hoping to get an asnwer.

I just purchased Resistance. Since installing it something annoying is happeneing. Every time I shoot one of the enemy soldiers , he goes bouncing in the air like a basketball!! Even when he is dead on the ground. If I shoot him again, he goes sliding on the ground?? Is this a common bug in Res? Is there a fix to it?

Another question is: do I need to install the patches 1.30 and 1.46 before installing Res? Because I installed it clean right after Coldwar without any patches. except for 1.86

I thank you all for your help.

Your post made me wonder if my SAS snyper add on had anything to do with it?? And sure enough it did. Although it worked perfect in Coldwar here for some reason when I use it it makes enemy soldiers go flying in the air. SO I guess the problem is with certain add ons. Which is a shame because I liked my SAS guy!!  :(

Hi guys, I hoppe someone can hel me in here.
I think I founded two bugs in the training depot
First one:
I been trying to post a few recritment ads in the training depot but after I hit the submit button I get this herror message on top and nothing happand

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /usr/local/www/html/training/index.php on line 18

Warning: Bad arguments to implode() in /usr/local/www/html/training/index.php on line 22

Warning: Cannot add header information - headers already sent by (output started at /usr/local/www/html/training/index.php:18) in /usr/local/www/html/training/index.php on line 55

Them submisions are there cos I can edit them all, so they are in the training depot , but when I loock for them I can not find them at all. Here is where the second bug comes.
Second bug:
I been loocking at the ads in the training depot searching for the ones I posted, the first one I posted was for an addon maker, so I got to the addon maker section, is two pages for addon maker with 28 ads, I loock to the first page, when I finish I hit the number 2 on top that supose to take you to the second page, instead it takes you to the page 2 of the section where all the jobs are listed, something like 5 or 6 pages of it instead of 2.
I hoppe to be able to submit the job ads cos I need them going ;D as far as I know I could be doing something whrong, but I very much doubt it. ;)
Thanks
@CERO.

@cero, your submision is listed in the pending list. It won't be public until a staff member see and 'release' it. Then it will be displayed in the training depot.

Anyway, i'll take a look on this page number bug asap.

Thanks for your comments

hi!

The only problem I have is for people who do code snippets in the editors depot:

Only use official addons in your scripts please,it's a pain to find some...like this one :

Updated Version of Direct Fire Mission Simulator

By Foster (foster_fc@yahoo.com)

he uses "soldierreconRG" or something  ???

Ciao!
