Title: (Review Completed) [SP] City of the Dead (BAS D/R)
Post by: asmodeus on 19 Feb 2003, 13:40:43
Greetings all!   ;D

*****Mission is Categorized "Asmo insta-action"*********
**(look at bottom :moon: (of the page)   ::)for explanation)**

Asmo here with a mission I made a while ago and never released officially for some reason...  (Mebbe I was waiting for the release of these Delta's...   ::))

The reason I need it tested again is that when I added the Delta team into the mission, it made it way too easy!  These guys are tough mofo's!!  So, I had to alter the mission by removing almost all backup and a couple other things..  I need to make sure this didn't negatively affect gameplay as I got some really good responses last time on this mission.  :D  (it was quite a while ago now)   ;)

Here's the overview:

You are part of an elite Delta Team chosen to enter a Militia base on Kolgujev after we pound it with artillery.  You are to find and destroy 2 computers used for their HAWK Rocket Guidance System. Enemy presence is expected to be minimal. We expect that the computers may well be destroyed, if so, you just have to confirm it.  Good luck!

Addons Required:

OFP 1.90 (I think.. . or is it 1.85??)   ::)
BAS's Ranger/Delta Pack  (Simply the best!)
KEG Editor Update (I use this almost always!  In this mission I couldn't have made a great bombed out city without it!)

Mission includes:

Intro (I didn't know camera scripting at the time I made this, I might redo it...)   ::)
Overview
Briefing w/lots of help from LCD (tanks  ::)   ;D)
Mission w/puzzles, optional objectives, unexpected events, indoor combat, flares that provide "mood" lighting  ::), enemies around every corner and a lot more!
Outro
Custom Music featuring Prodigy and Fear Factory that can be played at any time using the radio menu during the game.
Extra Savegames  (you might just need em...)   ::)   :P
Purple jumping llamas!   ::)   :P   ;D
and much more!   8)

Ok Ok... on with it... You can get it here:

http://home.earthlink.net/~jehning1/COD.zip (5.6 MB)

Edit: This mission has been reviewed and is available, with required addons, from the Missions Depot (http://www.ofpec.com/missions_depot/index.php?action=details&id=242).

I look forward to your feedback!   ;D

Asmo

**P.S>  "Asmo Insta-action"  ie:  you don't have to run far or wait long to be shooting away.   ;)   lol   :P

HAWK Rocket Guidance System

:P :P :P :P

;D

I'll test this out right away. If this is as good as it was the first time, then now it'll be even better! ;D

P.S Be on the lookout for Tincan ;D

I'll write this as I go along .....

Intro:  the shot under the last lot of text isn't really of anything.       Nothing much else to say except I would make it shorter and have the music fade out towards the end.

First page of Briefing you refer to Everon rather than Kolgujev.

 :( :( :( my decrepit computer (PII 400  384M RAM  Voodoo4) can't really cope ... which is a great disappointment.     Sorry Asmo.

lol, thanks Hawk!   ;D

... Tincan??   ::)

@ Macguba

Thanks for the info!    ;D  That really sucks that it didn't work too well on your comp.  It works on mine (barely).

I assume you know the trick of changing your settings to low for terrain detail and texture detail and such?   (it's easy to change them and can make a huge difference in gameplay on missions like this where I use almost 200 AI units)   ;)

I even set the viewdistance lower to help with that prob!   ;)

Bah!  Oh well.. Sucks you can't play it.  YOu always give such great feedback!   8)

Thnks!

Asmo

Yeah, I turned it all down .... the fact is my machine barely copes with OFP at all.   1.46 wasn't too bad but 1.75 chews up more CPU time and it struggles a bit ... I'm sometimes tempted to go back to being a 1.46 jockey.      It gets a bit boring pausing the mission, hiking the viewdistance up, having a look across the valley, pausing the mission again and putting it back down so that you can move on.

That sux!  :(

Ok, now we need to start a "new comp" fund for Macguba and Wolf!   :o  (I'll be leaving that club soon... I Gotta upgrade!)

Post by: Skaven on 20 Feb 2003, 00:02:23
ok Asmo I tried your mission, withouht wanting to spoil the fun for future players here goes a breif commentary  ;D

Overview:
Nice pic, pretty explanatory (fast and accurate).

Briefing:
Very, very explanatory  ;D no errors in English (for a Portuguese that is  ;D ) nice links with markers, all perfect, you shouldn't change the briefing  more, like it is,it  works and is perfect, really nothing to point or to sugest.

INTRO:
Nice music, I've already made a mission using that same song once ;D
The intro is very well done the explosions give a  nice effect and packed with the nice cameras you've choosen makes it all really beatifull, specially that kind of flash light effect is really something that I have to say gives impact and feeling to the mission, no bugs to report all worked well and no lag here.
Thanks for including BAS's name in the intro ;D I'm glad you liked them mate  ;)

MISSION:
As soon as I started the mission, it laged a bit,and my computer is fast and as 1024 DDR Memory so you should be carefull with the amount of units your using.
From the start I could say that this mission was hard, I've managed to die a couple of  times and also to have all my squad dead a lot of times.  ;D
When I managed to don't die and reached a place near  the computers I had a first bug, I got a radio message saying well done now proceed to next waypoint...,
well I didn't even see the computers, nevertheless the place was hot like s*** so I just went out of there fast.
I went to the second city, and than a waypoint appeared saying wait for the others and than some *****  ;) appeared and noting more happened, so this is possibly a second bug but I'm gonna try it again just to be sure I didn't make anything wrong,I was the only one, all my squad was dead so maybe that was the problem??? Nevertheless I have to say my gameplay was a disater, I hope to make it better next time  ;D
I will report you back with more details as soon as I figure if it was just a bad luck bug, however I think you should check the consistency of this mission.

One Sugestion for now:
Instead of having so many enemys, maybe putting a couple of soldiers inside some buildings, and than some in some selected places would make it as hard as it is, and could make you reduce some of the soldiers patroling the area, it gives a nice panic effect, but it also lags the game a bit.

Skaven M8!  Thanks for the great feedback!

I'll respond to you in more detail soon (gotta go do some stuff), but I wanted to point out one key thing (or more  ::))really quick:

Do not pay attention to the waypoints!  They are only there to make the chopper extraction work correctly!   ;)

When the computers are destroyed you'll get the message "The apple is eaten" and the objective will check off.   ;)

Once you do this, HQ approves your evac and you can then call them using radio 4 (it shows up after you destroy the comps)   ;)   ;)

I'll be back soon!    ;D

Thanks for testing it and the feedback!   ;D   ;D

Great mission asmo.  I didn't have to much of a lag prob (but that might be due to the fact im packing pIV 2.4 with all the bling bling).  Couple of suggestions to make this great mission even greater; might think about giving the player all the BAS weapons in the gear tab, I noticed you had some other guns available to select, but no BAS m4's, so i had to kill a teammate  :( .  One other thing i would like to see is it available in COOP.  Thats about it, really superb work m8!

OK since you were so nice as to try out LoJack, and since I absolutely LOVE those damn BAS units, ;D I'm downloading it right now and will give it a major smackdown for ya.

I'll check back tommorow or so.... :)

@ SilentEcho

Thanks a lot!   ;D

I totally agree w/ you about the weapons selection.  I just didn't add it because I lost the readme to my Rangers pack...   :-[  Anyone have one to spare??   ;)  (don't wanna re-download it just for that)  :o

Also... I have it available in co-op!   ;D  I just have to put the BAS soldiers in there and make a couple adjustments to some other things.   ;)  (that version is without the music, and is less than 200 kb)   ;)  I'll put that version on this thread when it's ready.   :D

@ Toadlife

Thanks man!   ;D  I love the Rangers/Deltas too!  (I'm addicted to command view now..)   ::)   :P  Goggles go up.... goggles go down....  up.... down...  "Sir, get on with it."   :P

@ Skaven

Glad you liked it!

Briefing:

Thanks!   :D  Lot's of credit goes out to LCD..  He helped me put that mass of html in a nice neat pile awhile ago!  (seems like way back in the day now)   ::)

Intro:

Thanks a lot!   :o   ;D  Guess I shouldn't re-do it then?   ;D  (good, I've got enough work to do)   :P   I might be forced to add a more "glorified" shot of some of the key explosions...    8)  (I just love loud, bright sparkly things...)   ::)  BTW, "no lag"  You're lucky!!  (I'm upgrading my comp soon tho...)   ;D

Mission

Strange that it lagged on the mission for you.  I even took out a lot of guys that were on your side because the Deltas are so tough.

Anyway, as you noticed, this is before I learned how to work with the AI to use troops more effectively.  With what I've learned recently of troop placement and waypoint/trigger usage, I should be able to reduce the number of enemy troops by a little less than half while they still defend the same area's just as well.   ;)  (I'll work on that some more, next version will be a surprise!)   ;)

Like you said, one good side effect from how I did it is the number of random troops you run into everywhere...  Some of them just run around the city like chickens w/ their heads cut off the whole time!   :o   ;)  Makes the player kinda off-guard.   ;)

About the comps, like I said, that's weird...  Mebbe in the heat of the battle you somehow destroyed them?  (which is really strange because they're in a very fortified bunker that I can shoot with 6 rpgs or more and not even scratch the comps)   :o   ;)   ;)

I'm glad you had fun  so far and look forward to what happens next!   ;D

Thanks again everyone!    8)

Asmo

Thanks for te RE-FeedBack Asmo  ;)
Today I'll try to test your mission again,I'm going in vacation soon, so...  :-\

As for including a selection of weapons in the editor, seems like a very nice idea, I didn't have to kill a team menber cause I've managed to have them all killed very fast, so I just had to take an M4 Reflex from a dead body  ;D
But the idea of killing a team mate, runned threw my head I have to say  ;D

In this kind of missions the M4 Reflex seems to be the best option since it as a better hit dammaged value than the MP5 and it seems a little bit more stable to use in Close Combat scenarios. At least that's how we designed it for  ;D

I forgot to tell you one thing, at Bas we'll be hosting Missions from the community that use our units and vehicles,we won't host anyhitng, we'll be hosting the ones we think that will feature BAS's Standarts, I think Nagual is leading the Project not sure to be honest  :P
This mission seems to pass with distinction in all aspects so as soon as you have it 100% working it would be nice hosting it in our website.
If your interested tell me  ;)

Hope you have fun on vacation!   8)  Thanks for testing it!   ;D  (how long are you gonna be gone for?)

Yes, the M4 reflex is definately a better choice for this!   ;)  (I hadn't had enough time to check out all the weapons in detail yesterday when I was packing it up to post here)   ;)  Good advice!  Thanks!   ;)

I was just thinking I'm gonna hide a couple of those cool dirtbikes from your addon pack in the city... For that lone survivor that needs to get out quick and happens to find it!   ;)   ;D  (It's a well-done bike, btw)

The answer is that you're getting better and it's easier!   ;)   These guys have great body armor!   :o

Never fear, I plan on changing the AI a lot and they will react to your attack much better.   ;)  (and hide in crazy spots)   :P

What's up with these choppers??  That's it... You have to walk back!   :P   :P  J/k.. that's weird...  Did you get in first or did you order your troops to get in first and wait??  Also, when exactly did you call the chopper for evac?  (the best way is to wait until you are ready and at the pickup spot in my experience...)   ;)

Thanks again!   8)   ;D

Asmo

P.S>  I added a huge weapon selection into it today.  Now I'm working on the AI and other stuff.   ;)

INTRO: It wouldn't load. It said I was mission addon "6g3o.pbo" - even though I have a file in BOTH my addon folders called 6g3o. Anyway I didn;t see trhe intro, and i got the same error message when the mission started, but the mission still played.

MISSION:
Definitely nix the music man. I turned it on accidentally and was horrified to see that I couldn't turn it off. The mission would be a tiny download without the two music tracks. How many enemies were on the map? They seemed to keep coming and coming and coming.

Gonna go back and play it again....only I'll be patient this time. :)

More to come....

Thanks for testing it!

That's Weird!!  It's the grenade launcher for the East side I think...  Wonder why you get the error?

Well, I agree with you on the music thing partly..  (I was thinking along the same lines, actually)

I've already taken Fear Factory out of the mission.  (It was used for the outro)   But I feel that Prodigy fits in with the intro very well.  (you'd understand if you could see it) So I'm keeping that.

But I have changed some things and now the mission weighs in at 2.6 MB I believe..

I've also updated the AI, weapon selection, radio messages, support, enemy placement and numbers, as well as added a "stop music" option to the radio menu...

So...  If you read this in time, I'm uploading the mission now...

I'll post more when it's done.   ;)

Yeah... It's real strange, check out this bit from my mission.sqm:

Code: [Select]
class Intro
{
   addOns[]=
   {
      "Bizon",
      "Hunter",
      "editorupdate102",
      "bas_deraw",
      "bas_weap",
      "bis_weaponpack",
      "bis_resistance",
      "bas_kawa"
   };
   addOnsAuto[]=
   {
      "bis_resistance",
      "Bizon",
      "bas_deraw",
      "Hunter",
      "bas_kawa",
      "editorupdate102"
   };

The mission one does have the 6G30 listed, but as you said, that's a valid BIS addon...  ??

Where's the prob??  This sucks, cause I've seen the same thing happen on Wolf's missions...  Unexplained error messages that shouldn't be there!!    >:(  Well, mebbe this new version will fix it for some reason??   ::)

Anyone else have these probs so far?

*******************New version*******************

I changed the new version a lot on different things.  Here's a list of them:

That's all I can think of!
 8)
You can get it at the same link!

http://home.earthlink.net/~jehning1/COD.zip  (2.7 MB)

Thanks again for the feedback!!   ;D

*edit*  Also, I'm going to add custom voices for the radio chatter.  (once I get my soundcard to let me record anything but static again..  ::))

Asmo

P.S.   How many enemies??   I dunno... You can count em...   ;)  There's a lot.  (I like my missions challenging, that optional objective isn't for the faint of heart!)   ;)   ;)

P.P.S. I did remove a lot of the "roving" squads though, instead placing key defenders and certain "support" squads..

Cool!   ;D

I'm glad the AI is better.   ;D  And it's a secret how I did it...   ::)  (Actually, it's just like you said, I used a combination of waypoints and triggers in a certain way to achieve the crazy urban battle effect...  ;)  and Kali found out about GUARD wps.   ;))   (Good luck looking through the maze of wp's and triggers in this mission)   ::)

I know what you mean, I've had the "Seeker" squads chase me down like crazy in this mission!   :o  You'd think I had a girl scout cookie or somethin!   ::)

About the chopper...  CRAP!   :P  I'm gonna have to just use snYpirs wonderful heli landing scripts then.  Have a feeling it will work better.   (snYpir really did a great job on that)

The stuff about the Russians... They were still stunned that there were any Russians involved in the battle at all!  It's supposed to be a purely "Resistance" base..  I'll have to explain more in the briefing about that part of the story.  (It's going to have to do with the sequel)   ;)

I have a few q's for you:

Did you like the difference for the computer room access?

Did any snipers chase you?   :P

Did you call the air support?

What direction did you attack the town from?

Did you use the default weapon loadout?

Do you think I should put custom voices in this?  (if I can get my soundcard to record)   :-\

Did you see the jumping purple llama??   :o    :P

Thanks for checkin it...    :D

I've played this once so far. Got killed somewhere in town by a bad guy.

Looks nice. I didn't read through most of the posts here because I don't want to spoil my playing the mission.

From the start, I have 2 suggested changes:

1. Give the commanders binocs. This is normal. So why do I have to nick them from the enemy officer I kill at the start? ::)

2. You suggest a well placed satchel charge should knock out the 2 PCs but you don't equip anyone with them. Not very realistic going out on a mission without the gear you know in advance you'll be needing. Here, too, like the binocs, nicking satchel charges from dead Spetsnazs doesn't really add any excitement to the mission.

Thanks for checkin it out Avon!!

I have a question for ya:

Did you check the gear selection?

I think you'll be nicely surprised if you haven't yet.   ;)

Also, I need to update the briefing, cause I actually made it to where the computers can be destroyed with gunfire very easily.   ;)

In the final version I'll include the binocs in the default loadout though.   ;)

Thanks for the feedback!   8)

I did but I didn't see anything. What am I missing? ???

While I'm here, another suggestion.

At the start, you've got these soldiers walking around causally just outside the woods. Not very realistic, considerring they were just bombarded beyond the hill.

I would suggest all of these soldiers take up a defensive recon position in the bushes on the hill just to the east of the forest's edge. That hill both overlooks the forrest where the Rangers are starting from and the town, making it a highly strategic vantage point to either side.

Good suggestions!

To tell you the truth, mebbe you have the version without the big gear choice?   ::)  If so sorry..   ::)   :-*  I thought there was binocs in the weapons loadout (as well as satchels and a bunch of other stuff)   ;)

If it's not there, it will be in the next version!   ;)

Good input about the soldiers walkin along.  I changed everybody else but them I think.   ;)  Thanks, that will be looked at.   ;D

Two more suggestions:

1. Sprinkle lots of dead enemies (minus all weapons) and destroyed armor in and around town. Remember what the intro showed happening there?

2. Convert most of the enemy AT soldiers to standard ones. It's too easy to pick up RPGs in the mission. Make us hunt for them, if we want them.

Thanks!   ;D

1.  LOL, originally I had tons of dead bodies everywhere, but got complaints about lag.  I'll probably add some back and just benchmark em.  Thnx

2.  Thanks for pointing this out, but that's not a problem at all!  I want you to have AT capability by the end of the mission, and it takes up lots of room in your weapons loadout anyways!  (I personally prefer more clips for this mission to kill all the guys with)   ;)  So grab all the AT gear you want!   ;D  (They have a lot cause it's cheaper than buying lots of tanks)   ;)

A couple q's:

Did you see the gear choice since you do have the correct version?  ::)

How far have you gotten so far?

Thanks for the feedback!   :D

Now I see them. My point being, the satchels should be pre-assigned in the MISSION.SQM to one of the AI. The player shouldn't have to go and look for them.

How far have you gotten so far?
Just took a hit from another well-placed PK'er. :P Fortunately, I believe in saving game positions. ;D

I started at that hill to the east, heading into town and clearing out the first row of houses. After taking some casualties and a wounded AI, I retreated back to the hill, healed the AI, went back towards the forest and came up over the hill prone near the road that enters the town center from the north.

Saw several enemies eastward and took them out, hit a nearby PK'er and crawled in. Made a mistake of ordering 7 to target the remaining T55. A shot rang out from closeby. Sure enough - a gunner in the doorway 2 meters away. After getting rid of him, I ran across the street and got my RPG ready to take out the tank. Then the PK'er 20 meters behind me filled me full of lead. :gunman:

I'll restart back at the save point, which was when we regrouped outside the forrest to head into the center of town. But later............... this mission is taking up a lotta my time. ;)

heh

A half ton it is.   ;D

I could give a satchel to one of the guys, or change the briefing.  After all, it really only takes 2 shots each w/ a glock now.   ;)  (a hard drive shouldn't really require too much more I think)

Quote

Thanks!  Yes, the savegames on this mission are priceless!  (there is a little bonus for you in this regard when you destroy the comps)   ;)   ;)

Yeah, this mission is full of lead surpises delivered to you at a much greater than cheetah-like velocity!   ;D  Just wait until you destroy the comps!  Then it really gets crazy!   ;D   ;D

Oh yeah, as pointed out by LCD, I'm fixing the chopper evac, so for now the best way is to call them when you are at the pickup area and ready.   (for now it is wp dependent for you to be at the area marked on the map, will be fixed on the next version)

I know what you mean about it taking a long time to beat it!   Let me know if it's too difficult to locate the comps...  (should be obvious I hope)

Thanks for spending your time on this!  Helps a lot!   :D   :)

Located the comps. Wow! Great mission.

If possible, make sure that all the enemies in the comps building are positioned away from the edges of the walls because some of them warp through either side of the wall when they turn around in prone position.

After taking them out I proceeded to extraction. What do you mean by "Just wait until you destroy the comps!  Then it really gets crazy!"? Maybe I missed it because of the exit route I took out of town. Other than one shooter south of the city, I encountered nothing else on the way to the EZ.

I reached extraction area, cleared what I had to clear and called for extraction. Now my chopper is just hovering over the area, not picking me up. :'( Is that the bug you were referring to?

When are you going to post an updated/final version?

Some general thoughts about AI behavior.

I lost all of my AI mainly because the AI don't have the brains to look left and right before crossing the street. ;D I had 5 of them with me till we got into the area of the target building. Then they would jsut crawl along as if siteseeing.

While I could have given the order to stop, that would have left me doing 100% of the dirty work.

I wish BIS could make the AI just a little more intelligent.

@ Avon Lady

Thanks a lot!   ;D

Well, I guess you got real lucky or killed almost everyone before you destroyed the comps!   8)

That's weird about the chopper, the existing prob was that it wouldn't wait for the whole squad to board before taking off.  I have no idea why it would do that to you, but I am going to completely re-do the chopper extraction so it should be much better in the next version.   ;)

Speaking of which, the next/final? version will be posted by tomorrow, barring any strange events.   ;)

Yeah, I know how you feel about the AI...  When I play I usually send at least half my squad to the edge of town to wait for me while I take care of things.  Maybe BIS is just training us to be super "rambo" type soldiers??   ::)   ;)  Or to be in a war next to a complete mental reject?   ;D

@ Skaven

Thanks for the interest!  By tomorrow I hope.   ;D  (I'm working on the chopper evac now)

@ Everyone else

Thanks!   ;D

P.S.   The sequel is very close to beta stage also!  It'll be here when this one's finished!   ;D

I restarted from my save location after destroying the comps.

I went down to the EZ, eliminated the enemies, called air support to take out the tank and then called in the UH60 for extraction. Once again, it hovered in place. However, I ran around the exact spot where the EZ map marker is and sure enough the UH60 touched down and I flew off into the night. :)

A comment about your outro: I found the outro's ongoing storyline very confusing. Too much going on too fast. Text messages not narrarative enough of who's involved and what's taking place. I would recommend either making it longer, more explanative and lessen the pace of the storyline text to read, or make it shorter and simpler.

P.S.  Has anyone tried shooting at the comps with an RPG from the street yet?   ::)  (I tried to make the comp area very well protected from such things, I want to make sure the player can't think of some sneaky way to take a shortcut like that.)   ;)

More haste makes waste:

Intro plays and then get error message "MISSING ADDON Objects1" and bounce back to OFP's menu. :(

Please don't use Kegetys' outdated Objects files.

Post by: asmodeus on 16 Mar 2003, 23:54:35
Thanks   ;D

I always said "haste makes paste" but that's just my weirdness.  (I really didn't rush this, I started it almost a year ago!)   ;)

I never knew what was causing that objects1.pbo to show up in my missions, so today I just depbo'd it and looked at the .cpp...  It's the darn trees and bushes!

So I replaced those with the renamed ones in Editorupdate 102 (couldn't find the same ones I was using, but it still works)  And I tried it out without the objects1 in my addons and it works fine now.  Thanks for pointing that out Avon!

About the readme...  I didn't make one yet since it's still beta...  I consider the beta thread itself to be a sort of Readme while the mission is in beta phase.  (tells addons required, description of the mission, all that jazz)

So... I didn't do one for this version, but I will for the next version!  (and all you beta testers will be mentioned of course!)

So, the corrected version without the objects1.pbo requirement is at the same link:

http://home.earthlink.net/~jehning1/COD.zip

Thanks!   ;D

I played it a little bit last night before I went to sleep...... and I'll give it another play when I get home from classes tonight ;)

One thing I noticed is that....  I snuck up and took out two of the hunters hiding on the edge of the woods at the start with my silent weapon from behind.... and they never had a clue I was coming....  and yet.. when I shot them both the alarm went off ???

Is it set off when those guys die? or did someone see me somehow?

just a question in my mind...

I pretty much went into the city and headed straight for the building with the computers in it ....    never really made it in.. but i only played for a few minutes....  before going back to work on my mission

 OK .. I just beat it .....

not really much has changed since before other than you removing the backup right?       I didnt watch the intro.. cause its the same other than the new units also right? And maybe a few small additions?

It was hard as always... but can get quite annoying when you get shot by some guy hiding in a building or something and there is really no possible way you could see him  ::)
I was glad   for every savegame I had available.....

Are you going to return the automatic retry point upon leaving the building with the computers again? I think that was a really good spot for it

Anyways... as others have said in this thread... my AI teamates were absolutely worthless   once we got into the city and I was quickly on my own... I crawled up to the building ..... taking out guys as needed.... then made my way inside.....

I remembered where the ammo was from when we made that building ;)
so I went and got myself some satchels.....      planted like 5 or 6 around the the buildings there.. including one by the computer....

I agree with you .. that scaffolding works alot better than the tower we used before ;)

So .     I left the building..... and planted a couple more satchels on the way out.. got to the edge of the city and touched em all off....   stood up and high tailed it to the extraction.....   I saved my game just outside that final little town where you get picked up and then went in to take it ...

Now.. I personally think this last town is a touch too hard...  there are ....

2 guys on patrol and thats cool....    and an AA soldier is plausible there on the corner  I suppose.. although .. how come he's not shooting at the AH-1  I called in for support ? ;)

then.... the most.. umm.. disturbing part is the two guys lying together in a bush in that city  :noo:     they're near an ammo crate ......   hiding behind a tree.. and in  the bushes....

regardless... I dont think 5/6 guys is neccesary there.. especially with the tanks that I didnt see but know are there coming as well.....    ;)

Only spotted one "bug"    I was well on my way out of town and to the extraction when one of the supporting squads that were called in must have  spotted a russian.. cause my guy proclaimed... "they have russians on their side"

other than that.. I'd say its pretty much done..

From which direction did you approach the last village where the EZ is? I approached from the EZ side and had no trouble picking off everyone by also going full swing around the back and center of the village.

Thanks Kali!

Yeah, the intro is pretty much the same.. Changed small things and stuff...  (camera angles, tanks flying across the sky, dead bodies lying around, BIS units used and benchmarking added)

I've never been shot in this mission where it was an unfair shot..  I could always see the path the bullet took and it wasn't ever through a building..  Is that what you're saying happened? Cause I thought all the buildings in that town have good enough walls to prevent that.   ;)

If it's just the fact that they are placed where they are... That's because I lowered the amount of total enemies in the mission to help w/ lag problems..  Therefore I placed the enemies that I kept in much more strategic positions and made them move around less.   ;)

I know what you mean about saves, using them wisely is a big part of beating the mission for me..

I took out that auto save point because I had a situation where a guy shot me right after it saved, and I think it's preferable to have more control over the saves.   ;)

I look at it this way:

If I, as the player made a bad choice of when to save and that happened, no biggy, but if I, as the mission designer puts a savegame spot in a mission where this could happen and you have to start the mission over, (or you just get tired of it) it really sucks.   ;)

Yeah, I like the scaffolding better for sure.   ;D

Hmmm.. Like Avon said about that last town, I think it all depends on the direction you attack from and the weapon you bring with you.  Personally, if I'm not injured to where I can't aim, I'll look for a dragunov to bring with me if at all possible.   ;)  Not to mention the fact that it's almost too easy if some of your guys live.  (mine usually do now, cause I go after the comps by myself)

I'd be very interested to see what others think about that last part before the extraction.

The AA guy didn't shoot at your cobra because he was busy drinking coffee!   ::)  (I dunno, if I could always explain the AI, I'd be working for BIS!)   ;)    BUt he's not on "never fire" or anything...    ;)

About the "russians' on their side" message..  I was just trying to add a little depth to the mission..  This is supposed to be a purely Resistance base... But by the time you are leaving the City, I assumed that you would have seen at least 1 Russian by then.  (as a matter of fact, I'm positive)

So, it's just the guy saying to himself, "I wonder why there were Russians helping them" ...  There will be more in the sequel explaining the relationship between the Resistance Militia forces and the Russians, but right now the U.S. forces didn't even know about it until your debriefing at the end of this mission.  (you will find out in the briefing and intro for the sequel, The Lost Lion)

I checked the screeny, (that's cool w/the muppets)  ;)  so I take it that you got shot by one of the guys in the bushes at the end?   ;)  Da*n, I need to see if the chopper extraction works correctly now w/ snYpir's chopper landing script!

Thanks for checking it out Kali!

and no the guys aren't shooting through walls....

and.....   I don't know why the objective didn't check off.. although I never did get to the "move" waypoint.....  I called in the chopper from by the buildings and waited for it to come.... got in it .. and we flew off  all together ;)

Also the radio message I was talking about doesnt occur when you are leaving the area.. but when you initially spot a russian in the base.....   now usually this happens rather quickly.. but when I was playing it..  I must have never saw a russian or something because it didnt go off till I was out of the city ;)

Well, if we're talking about a sequel here (yay!), I think this message should be displayed the first moment a Russian is spotted by any of the Rangers. It would be great to hear a voice clip over the radio shouting "sir/madam ;), there are Russians here! What the hell is going on?!"

About the voice clips, I agree!  (thought about that too)  But :moon:  (there's always a but) my comp won't let me record anything!   :-X  (it's quite vexing)  If I can't get that fixed, I'll just record over at Kali's house or a few other places...

So... The next version will have these things fixed and custom voice files!  (and any other bugs that may be found until then)   ;)

Thanks Avon and Kali!   8)

Thanks LCD!

Hrm...  About the bug.. How many guys were left in your squad?  Did you tell your guys to board the chopper before or after it landed?

Yeah, that prob where it stops, then goes, then stops, is a trigger used to slow down the chopper for the landing.. I will mess with the conditions where it only happens when you are not in the chopper..  (hmmm... what would that be?  "mygroup not in chopper1"??)

Send the beer there??  Hmmm...  I don't think my slingshot is that big!   ::)  Mebbe a "Smart Beer bomb"

*Siren comes on*

*Incoming beer raid*

Oh no!  Hurry, open your mouths and drink!   :o   :P   ;)  I need pretzels,  stat!

(No offense to anyone, just being weird)

Thanks for the answers to ma q's!   ;D   Not sure what the error is... Mebbe I'll have to consult (annoy) the great snYpir...   ::)

Thnx!

Hey everyone!

Well, I really want to get this mission completed and move on to the next..

I've changed everything you great beta testers have mentioned in this latest version.

Fixes

Fixed Objective checking off problem

Fixed copter "stop n go" prob after taking off

Fixed confusion with "russian" comments by removing one of them

Change that I still plan on implementing:

A small "history" part in the briefing of the situation with the US forces versus the Militia, and how the Russians are not thought to be involved in it.

Also I will write up a Readme.   ;)

You can find it at the same link:

Thanks a lot for all the help everyone!   ;D

Thanks!

So.. Did you beat it?

If so.. Did everything work?  (especially the heli-extraction at the end?)

Thanks again!   8)

*bump*   ;)

Hey everyone!   I want to say thanks again for all the excellent help from you beta testers!

There's one last thing preventing me from the official release of this mission.

Does the chopper extraction work correctly for those that had problems before?

Thanks!

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to say thanks again to all beta testers and here is the (dare I say it)  ::)  Final version!!

http://home.earthlink.net/~jehning1/COD.zip  (2.0 MB)

Edit: This mission has been reviewed and is available, with required addons, from the Missions Depot (http://www.ofpec.com/missions_depot/index.php?action=details&id=242).

I changed the music a bit (shortened it and faded in/out)

Also I included a readme in this zip.  (I've attached the readme for any who are interested in just that)

Thanks again for all the help!  As said in the readme, you beta testers are what helps make this mission what it is!   ;D

Also thanks to The Avon Lady for her review of this mission in the M.O.M. section of her website!   :D  I'm honored!   ;D
