The lobby includes time of day settings for night and day along with a random time setting.
A picture isn't included here even though we generally like to see one, the briefing is laid out pretty much like the old OFP mission "Steal the Car", and in fact you will notice many similarities between this mission and the OFP version.
The markers work but you're not shown your starting position until the mission begins. There are three possible start positions; one is randomly selected at the start of each mission. This is a great feature as it really adds to the replayability for the players.
The weapons selection in the gear choosing screen is limited to just a handful of weapons.
The briefing information itself is short and simple and describes the tasks at hand. There are two objectives and the notes section contains a small hint about what lies ahead.
The mission starts you and you're squad out with a short jaunt towards town. You immediately need to check your bearings as the random starting position will undoubtedly throw you off for the first couple of attempts at this mission.
You need to take Steal the Car II carefully; this is a slower paced mission enforcing the Operation Flashpoint mentality upon the player. The AI is very unforgiving and you need to be stealthy as you approach Bagango. There is no respawn in this mission, and if you're used to playing with respawn or revive options you may find this mission on the difficult side. Avoid rushing into town; you will just end up watching from the spectator's booth. W0lle has included Keygety's spectating scripts for those of you who take a bullet early on.
There are plenty of tough patrols in and around Bagango, you're mostly faced with infantry and a few roaming UAZ's equipped with a machine gun. Working your way into town can be a bit of a chore but once you hunt down the enemy, you need to start the search for the UAZ and get the heck out of there.
The atmosphere in this mission is pretty good, there are some custom radio voices borrowed from the OFP mission, and when I heard the first radio call I perked right up as that familiar voice from OFP rekindled some fond memories.
This mission is just like the old Operation Flashpoint mission, most people who played the OFP version will enjoy the real toughness of this authors rendition. Steal The Car II will definitely test your skills!
We played Steal the Car II with DMSmoke Effects, VFAI_Equipment and GroupLink3, these addons can really add to the AI smarts and crank up the toughness in this mission. It took two players 45 minutes; and three players 35 minutes to finish the mission successfully. We had limited success completing the mission, 10 - 15 times our team would expired before we completed Steal the Car II. The beginner to average player should find this mission fairly difficult but having the mission so tough it kept us coming back for more punishment adding to the replayability. Steal the Car II is definitely one of those missions you want to have on your server.
