2012

This months' spotlight shines on our winner of the MEC 2012 competition "Invisible Killers".

Who are you and where in our world do you call home?

My real name is Eliahu. I'm 25 years old. Currently, I am living in Eilat which is located in Israel.

How long have you been playing/editing in Arma2? Is it the only BIS title you own?

I've been playing ARMA2 since 2009, when I received a free copy from the flash competition. My first mission I made was "Red Yankee" which tells about an ex-US army soldier who got betrayed by US army and he planned revenge sabotage. My first BIS game was Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis. I won ARMA2 from the competiton and in 2010 I bought ARMA1. In 2011, I bought ARMA2:CO with the BAF and PMC dlcs. In 2012, I bought Take-on Helicopters plus the hind DLC and in June 17th 2012, I made my first pre-order for the new ACR DLC for my birthday.

What is it that keeps you coming back to the game?

Many things bring me back to play this amazing game. For example, new addons, new features and videos from Youtube that inspire me to do mission editing.

How many hours do you put into playing or editing the game per week?

I play my game between 2 – 3 hours as my schedule allows to play it.

Do you have family or friends that you share the game with?

I don't have any family or friends that I share the game with yet.

What are your thoughts on winning the MEC 2012 competition?

My best thought on winning the MEC 2012 competition was that it was my first win in an OFPEC competition ever. In the last year, I've made 3 missions that have not gone to top 3.

Did you play the other entries to see what your project was up against? If so, what were your thoughts on the competition?

I didn't play the other entries of this competiton, but I did play some stock sniper mission that was included in the game. My mission was my own idea, but before the competiton, I saw a video tutorial about making a good mission.

In what ways do you think the contest has affected your editing?

The contest affected me so much that I want to share the mission I made to the world.

Do you play multiplayer at all? If so, what servers do you frequent?

I mostly play single-player missions, but sometimes I play multi-player like the MP Armory with much freedom.

What typical process works for you, when designing and building a mission?

Most of the time, I simply draw on the ideas that are in my head to make my missions.

Where does your inspiration for mission editing come from?

From my own ideas, other missions I've played, action movies and much more.

What sites do find are most helpful during the mission editing process? Why?

Armaholic –  is a powerful site for the ARMA2 series that I can find almost anything to add more stuff to ARMA2 games.
BIS forums - I can find anything about mission editing, asking for help about game issues and some news.

BIS Wiki- I can find any information about mission editing, general info and much more.

What sort of set backs have you suffered in your endeavors as a mission editor?

Mostly the scripting such as the new talking functions, unit recording and more difficult scripting. Other subjects like making camera scripts for intros and outros  but I will face them at all cost.

What do you find is the most frustrating area of the Arma2 editor?

My most frustrating area of the arma2 editor is with triggers and synchronization.

What would you like to see BIS improve in Arma3, that has not already been mentioned?

I would like to see more of both land and sea wildlife, functions that make you see videos on objects, more factions, city-life, beach-life, vehicle traffic, death from dangerous animals such as sharks and snakes, cargo lifting with helicopters, cargo transports like TOH and more.

What's next for you; Plan on releasing more projects to the public?

If I have enough time, I will try to make more missions.

What are some other game titles that you play outside of the Armaverse?

Flight Simulator 2004, Flight Simulator X, IL-2:1946, Iron Front.

Care to share any other hobbies or interests that keep you active when not gaming?

I like to make animation videos like my entry of Steve and the Alien. In November, I will attend a professional animation college in Tel-Aviv for 4 years. I also like music, cartoons, animals (sharks, fish, dolphins and much more), travelling, computers. I also enjoy making graphic arts for Deviantart (you can see my art on that site by finding my username which is the same as OFPEC user)

Have any comments or advice that you would like to share with our readers?

I would like to say that I was very happy to be interviewed on my first win and I will advise others to make missions by their own ideas with great sound effect, great cut-scenes and more. And I would like to give thanks to BIS for making these great games and good luck for ARMA3.

PICK 3

What was the last game you bought?

Take On Helicopters plus Hind DLC and ACR DLC from BIS store.

If you were a superhero, what would be your superpower?

I would have on my first hand laser (just like Buzz-lightyear), and on my second hand, a flamethrower. I can also will have Ice breaths to freeze the enemies.

What is your favorite vehicle/unit/weapon of all BIS or user made content, including past titles?

Airwolf pack for OFP
