« on: 24 Feb 2003, 09:00:16 »
I noticed that the Missions Depot has not been updated very recently...

Are you updating?  Or doing this on purpose to stack up on more missions?

I have hired some new reviewers but they don't seem to be as keen to review once they get the job.

Hi,

as you might have noticed  ;D some new reviewers are really keen to do the work. But as long it is not possible to make a living as OFPEC Mission Reviewer (my dream job). I  can only review one or two missions a week because i want to play the mission three or four times to get a good review.

Greetings

Spec Ops 9, I know you're frustrated that you can't review missions.    Why don't you do some beta testing?   It's actually more rewarding because you get some feedback from the author and a chance to improve the mission.    Makes it easier to get your own stuff tested too, though I know you mostly post MP missions which are a devil to get tested.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

I review a mission any time I can. (Not now due to login problems) but you have to keep in mind that to review a mission you must :

1. ) Start it up, View the intro, rate it there and then. Watch it again to make sure it doesn't act differantly and then re-consider your first rating.
2.)read the briefing full a few times. Check what mistakes are there.
3.)Look at weapon selection
4.)start the mission
5.)play it through once, complete it. (for a hard mission this could take a while remember!)
6.)play it again and try differant ways to complete it
7.)try it on cadet or veteran respectively
8.)do a first draft review check it for spelling and make sure you have mentioned everything you want to.
9.)finish it up
10.) proof-read

Not something that can be done 3 times a day! Even a half-assed review takes a while!

No no no...

I am not worrying about "mission reviewing" at OFPEC..

I do that stuff at ofp Arena

I am just saying that there are a few youngsters out there that want to do alot for this game.  Like me,  when I first got this game, I sent in 3 shit missions here because I "wanted" to submit something and support badly...

Besides it was funny to see the comments and stuff about the review...

And as for those MP missions I sent in...

They are horrible,

Battlefields Regeneration: when you died, you keep on dying

Lost Prayers: Laggy as all hell, and when you finally complete
the mission, you find out the god damn
helicopter door is set on "lock" inside the editor

If you could take both those missions OUT, that would be great, cause, sadly, I didnt BETA TEST..

"see how important it is people?"   ;)

Hi,

to anyone who is interested: Some statistics about the Mission Depot. Yes we are fighting, we are testing we are reviewing. And we are faster than the authors again.
Statistic:
Since 1st of February we reviewed 14 SP Missions
Since 1st of February 8 SP missions were submitted
At the moment they are 32 SP Missions pending

This means, keeping this pace in June all missions are reviewed.

So i must say, lets take efforts May is possible.

Greetings Kuro (i try to keep my two missions a week average)

As for the "18 rule": I don't know about OFPEC, but the OFP group I'm associated with (CoC), like OFPEC, is based in the UK, and has to respect the local child-labour laws, and those pertain to "volunteer" work as well.  It's a tricky issue, and many web teams try to err on the side of safety
As for review backlogs: Yes, it takes time.   How long does it take to make a mission in your spare time? If you're like me, it takes months.  How long does it take to play thoroughly a mission?  Then they've got to write a proper evaluation.
I'm impressed with the speed with which reviews have been coming out in the past month.

Yes...  Good missions simply can't be made without good beta testing..

It's like making a car... There's so many parts that can go wrong, you've gotta test drive it and make sure everyone that drives it in their own "style" is able to drive as it was meant to drive...

 ::)

And the mission reviewers will be much happier if they play beta tested missions!   ;D   8)

Obviously many missions are not posted in the beta testing section of the forums and ones that do not play very well delay the review and release of missions which have been tested and are quite good.

Since that probably happens why not have a pending section for the missions?  Maybe just have a few for download.  It would help the reviewers save time because they wouldn't have to mess with buggy, untested missions.

Another advantage would be the author could get some feedback (that is if they haven't taken the time to get it tested beforehand).  It would also give players something to tide them over while the other missions are reviewed.

Anyway, its just a thought.

With more people, alot can be done...

Sadly not too many people are very exited with Mission Reviewing...

I am looking for a writing carrer, and by me having a writing backround, Reviewing for web sites is a grade A start

I am going into journalism/writing as well.

Anyway, I was looking in the mission depot and i think they have some very old missions submitted.  (I sorted the single player missions by submission date and in ascending order)

Is there a specific time (or period of time) the mission depot is updated (that is when there are missions to be posted)?  Or is it updated whenever something is finished?

Hallo,

Some more statics from the mission depot. At the moment there are only

18 SP missions left which are not picked by a reviewer.
All the others have a reviewer testing it or have some issues (like unclear AddOn list and the author is contacted)

Therefore i have good hopes to be back on the track end of May.

Greetings

OK, so Wolfsbane said I had a CHANCE of review. So I signed up for a week ago and I havenÂ't got an answer yet... How long is this going to take, a month? If you donÂ't want me then please send me an IM so I donÂ't throw up of excitement every time I get an IM. :-\

Although we (the reviewers) did 20 Reviews this month. So i think the Mission Depot is quite back and alive. Of course if we are faster it would be better.

Greetings
