(Review Completed) [SP] Infinite Obelisk
« on: 11 Oct 2008, 08:14:45 »
Hi this mission I just made in half a day, not much thought into it. But it's supposed to be for fun.. So it might just get a 3/10...haha...

But hey the end part is challenging, don't stay put..

MISSION DESCRIPTION:
Ivan has an outpost on Malden which needs air defenses.  Ivan is sending some shilkas to protect the outpost, your job is to stop them. Good luck...

Let me know what you think...Thanks...

CHANGES:
Fixed objective 2 to click when necassary.
Fixed some typos.
Added some enemy units.

Edit: This mission has been reviewed and is available from the Missions Depot.

Hey NightJay,
This mission uses BAS_O.pbo.
Any chance you can upload it somewhere so I don't have to search through a mountain of cds to find it? Archiving isn't always a great idea.

Hi Denz,
Sorry for the addon, it was actually an ambient sound in the mission from BAS, so I replaced it with regular BIS ambient sound...ah darnit, one small thing I didn't notice, lol..the mission is fixed now, so you can download it again from the attatchment on the first post above, thanks for letting me know

Ok I'm on it.
One thing though you didn't remove the BAS_O from the mission.sqm.
I'll give it a run through now

v1.96 Veteran Difficulty

Overview
Nice big picture with a short and sweet description.

Briefing
Again short and straight to the point.
Only thing I can quibble about is the line (just me being picky) otherwise no problems.
"after shilkas are destroyed" > after the shilkas
Wish I'd read the notes thoroughly before typing this up it would've saved me a few shells in the back.

Mission
Simple enough premise destroy two shilkas and get out of there. Not so easy to actually carry out though. Getting rid of the shilkas wasn't a problem it was the bullets in the back or cannon shells in the case of the BMP.
No problems encountered.
Time taken 4 minutes.
Debriefing
Says "Shilk's destroyed"

Overall
It just goes to show that you don't need months and months of fancy editing to create an enjoyable, challenging mission.
Tricky little mission to complete but it does entertain  :good:

Thank you for the review. Yeah it's a little trick isn't it? You have enough ammo, but don't misuse it.
Yeah I thought it would be a nice touch not to introduce the BMP.

my strategy is to shoot the shilka in the middle of the convoy first, then take out the next and shoot the BMP. Then move up along the road for protection because The T-80 that's coming will take you out in the open.

See I think sometimes as a mission editor we make it to complicated, for me anyways.  It's supposed to be for fun, don't always think of it as having to do it to be reviewed, think creatively...that's what makes the best missions.

So what score would you give it?  If it were me personally I'de give it a 3 or 4/10.

Well if I were reviewing it I'd give it a 4.
Even though it is a simple mission it did entertain me for a while and I would recommend other people to try especially as a demonstration for how missions don't need to be complicated to still be fun.

Well if I were reviewing it I'd give it a 4.

:), imagine if it had an intro and some sound from voices....

Did anybody get towards the end and come across a UAZ of troops after them?

If you have already imagined......you are only a few steps away from improving your work.  :D If you know you can make it better, why not try?

I did a test run of this mission. Definitely Short and sweet. No elaborate insertion, no strategic coordination of attack and no fancy extract.
Veteran 1.96
At the start I felt as I was a lonely camper running around trying to find the safest bush to take a leak in. After several reloads of finding the better spot I ended up allowing the column to pass me by and take them out from behind to allow me more reload time while they were searching for the threat. After that I crawled (A reminder of the old OFP days) nearly 200 meters southeast before dashing north for the evac area. I made it nearly to the road that leads toward Chapoi and the mission ended.
Wow, I really must agree with Denz on this one. So many editors forget the foundation of a good time, me being one of those, that they don't remember the sheer joy of making it out of a simple hot zone alive with only your BDU's.
In my book the rating would be as low as the 3 that you first figured for. However, since I was once gently scolded for grading a mission out of context I must add a point for the simple fact that you accomplished exactly what you intended to. You created a mission that was fun, butt clenching, quick enough to scatter my mind for a few minutes and not have to download addons in order to see it. Kudos. If you would like me to review as is....I'd be happy to. If you prefer to add some more detail to it, then please remove the (Review Please) tag from your title.

Great review @Savedbygrace.  Your very dramatic in your explanation which is a good thing, it brightens it up and gives it a little more humour.   :D

Also I added a UAZ at the end for a little touch of of an escape difficulty.  Yes if you could review this, that would be great.  Any help is appreciated.

Sometimes in mission creating we think "To Hard" of how a mission should be. Speaking from myself of course.

Feel free to review this savedbygrace...thanks...
