Avatar size restrictions
« on: 05 Jun 2006, 17:45:29 »
I think that you should edit the maximum size for avatars used. At present they are 65 by 65 pixels, wich makes some, like the staff avatars, its text hardly readable and the background behind text hardly interperetable.. I suggest 80 by 80 pixels.

Seconded.

If my memory serves me correct the old forum had 85x85.

Fair enough... 80x80 it is.

The forum will automatically resize the pics using html, which is fine for most browsers but unfortunately looks fairly rubbishy in IE.

You can always resize your avatar in a graphics program and reload it though ;)

At the moment... 80x80. That seems to be negotiable though ;)

You are increasing the noise in signal-to-noise ratio. The content which should have the highest priority is getting less attention when the other things are given more space. 85x85 is a huge avatar as I see it.

Just a personal opinion, I'm not demanding anything into any direction.

Present avatar size(80x80) is causing small posts to take up a hell of a lot of wasted white space, which I have found very annoying as of late.  I would vote to shrivel them down to 50x50 or smaller.  Thought we were trying to reduce signal to noise. (As opposed to this message,of course, which is all signal because I posted it... )

If they look like crap after auto-resizing it is up to the member to be arsed to make a smaller, better looking version.

Me thinks this be good. This way you won't miss smaller post (even if it's just a sentence it might be important) when speed-scrolling.

At present I'm not minded to change it.   80x80 seems to be a good compromise between having them as small as possible (which is desirable) and big enough so you can actually see the image and they do their job of helping you spot short posts.   We want to encourage concise posts.

Wait, what? So now we're changing it to 80x80? What's wrong with 85x85 now then? I even made myself a new one to fit this format. :(

We're not changing anything.   Whatever it is now its going to stay like that for the time being.

Now I'm not even sure if its 80 or 85 ....

Tomb! You old   and hopelessly editor-wise lost bugger! Damned good to see you. And if I've already said hi once, which I probably have, I've forgotten it in my senility.  :cool2:

As to avatar-sizes, well. Just the name make short posts tiny, and it's also generally easier to spot the posts you wanted to read or reread if there's a slight difference in colouration and appearance of each poster. Yoda also agrees.

(ooh, fancy new emoticons!)

Wolfrug out.
