Default currency for donations?
« on: 09 Dec 2005, 19:28:31 »
When one makes a donation to OFPEC, should it be made in one's local currency or should it be made in euros, pounds,...?

As my (small) PayPal balance is in US dollars, I do not want to make a donation that I cannot fund due to the conversion factor.

Thanks in advance!

I believe if you send it in Dollars, they get the Dollars amount converted automatically to their currency, so don't worry about making a big donation, it wont affect you, it only occurs on the end run of the process.

If you donate $1, and the selected currency is '$', the OFPEC fund, unless changed from the days I used to do it, would get roughly £0.50p, after conversion, which is equivalent to slightly more than a bar of chocolate in British terms. I don't know if HuBBa has changed it to his strange alien money that they use over there yet, I presume he would have. :)

Best piece of advice I can give, is put a '1' then lots of '0''s.  :P

N.B - Quick aside, remember, if you state in any form of transaction, that you wish 'x' amount of funds to be debited to another source, it doesn't matter what that company intends to do with it, but they can never remove more from your account than you stated on that form, including the currency format.

Thank you for the prompt reply.

I had assumed that it would be deducted in dollars and the converted to the recipient's currency of choice but I had to ask as the following line was displayed below the amount field when I started the donation process:

Quote
Shipping & Handling:  â‚¬0.00 EUR

If the donation is withdrawn at the recipient's rate, I will return and let other know. If it is deducted in US dollars, I shall close the thread without further comment.

No problem, but they would just be pennies!  :P

Edit: The deduction was made in euros but the converted amount of dollars was displayed prior to confirming the payment. My fear that the deduction amount would have been made in euros without the ability to amend the converted amount was not true.
